Around 90% completion of Al-Nuri Mosque, says Nineveh Governor
The Governor of Nineveh Abdul Qader Dakhil announced on Tuesday the 90% completion of the works at Al-Nuri Mosque, destroyed by Daesh terrorist gangs in 2017.
The works at Al-Nuri Mosque were completed by 90%, and some spaces, gardens, and other ablution places remain. The work will be completed during the current month of March or the beginning of next April, said Al-Dakhil to the Iraqi News Agency - INA.
"Working in the old city, the right coast, requires time, especially as it is among the areas nominated for the World Heritage List. Therefore the work requires to be according to UNESCO data as well as the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and the Nineveh Antiquities Department," he explained.
He pointed out that "the study of the reconstruction of the destroyed areas was completed two years after work by the University of Baghdad and a Spanish company."
Daesh terrorist gangs bombed Al-Nuri Mosque in Mosul and its beacon in June 2017.
The construction of the mosque dates back to the sixth century AH - twelfth century AD.
