Themed 'A Multidimensional Perspective', the event is held in conjunction with the Sarawak Islamic Council's 70th anniversary celebration. According to State Deputy Minister in Sarawak Premier's Department (Project Coordinator for Regional Development Agencies, Kuching North City Commission and Islamic Affairs) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, the seminar aims to bring together policymakers, scientists, scholars and leaders to discuss the often-overlooked human dimension of climate change – an essential point in addressing today's global environmental challenges. 'The purpose of this seminar is to deepen our understanding of the relationship between human activities and climate change, which is becoming increasingly critical,' he said during a press conference at Majma' Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah here yesterday. Dr Abdul Rahman added that the seminar would also highlight perspectives rooted in Islamic teachings, providing participants with holistic methods to collectively address the issues arising from climate change. He stressed that the event was designed to foster collaboration between local and global communities in formulating effective strategies to tackle the ongoing climate crisis. Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is expected to deliver a keynote address on 'Balancing Development Needs and Environmental Concerns: Sarawak's Experience and The Way Forward' at the seminar's opening. The event is expected to draw participation from both local and international delegates, including academicians, government officials, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), community leaders, and also students. Members of the public, especially those concerned about the climate crisis and its impact on humanity, are encouraged to attend. Participation is free. Sarawak deputy minister urges regional development agencies to fast-track projects for economic growth

KUCHING, May 17 — Regional Development Agencies (RDAs) are encouraged to execute low-hanging projects that can be completed in under a year to accelerate regional development, said Datuk Abdul Rahman Junaidi. In a statement issued following the completion of his official tour to all RDAs in the state, Abdul Rahman stressed the need to fast-track such projects so they can be completed as early as 2028. He noted that quick-win initiatives would provide immediate impact and demonstrate the effectiveness of regional development plans. 'During his visit to all the nine RDAs, the RDAs presented the progress and challenges they faced in the project implementation. For the record, this is the first RDA tour he has conducted since becoming the Deputy Minister in the Premier's Department, serving as Project Coordinator for Regional Development Agencies, on March 17 this year,' the statement read. Abdul Rahman ended his tour to RDAs on Friday (May 16) with a final visit to Greater Kuching Coordination Development Agency (GKCDA). The RDA tour had started on May 5, covering all nine RDAs, namely, the Northern Region Development Authority (NRDA), followed by the Highland Development Agency (HDA), Mid-Rajang Development Authority (MiRRDA), Upper Rajang Development Authority (URDA), Sri Aman Development Authority (SADA), Rajang Development Authority (RADDA), Betong Development Authority (BDDA), Integrated Samarahan Development Authority (IRSDA) and GKCDA. He was accompanied by representatives from Economic Planning Unit Sarawak (EPU) and Sarawak Implementation and Monitoring Unit (SIMU), that act as the secretariat of the Regional Development Agencies Coordinating Committee (RDACC). The Committee, chaired by Abdul Rahman, aims to enhance collaboration and monitoring and provide strategic direction for the implementation of projects under RDAs. — The Borneo Post

Special committee to coordinate regional devt agencies to be established

MIRI (May 7): A special committee will be set up to coordinate and report on the progress and challenges faced by all agencies under the Regional Development Agency (RDA), says Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi. The Deputy Minister in Sarawak Premier's Department (Project Coordinator for Regional Development Agencies, Kuching North City Commission-DBKU and Islamic Affairs) said this committee would be chaired by him, and would oversee all nine agencies under the RDA. The nine are the Northern Regional Development Agency (NRDA), Highland Development Agency (HDA), Mid-Rajang Regional Development Agency (Mirrda), Upper Rajang Development Agency (Urda), Rajang Delta Development Agency (Radda), Betong Division Development Agency (BDDA), Sri Aman Development Agency (Sada), Integrated Regional Samarahan Development Agency (Irsda), and Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA). 'The RDA was established to accelerate the development pace in their respective regions through the approval of projects without going through federal agencies. 'All project proposals are planned by the respective RDAs and approved by their respective Regional Development Agency Steering Committees,' Dr Abdul Rahman told reporters when met after a visit to the HDA office here yesterday. During the visit, Dr Abdul Rahman said the implementation of all projects under these agencies would be handled by departments such as the Public Works Department (JKR), Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID), Department of Agriculture, Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB), the local authorities, statutory bodies, as well as Resident and district offices. In this regard, he called for strong cooperation from all agencies under the RDA to ensure that approved and planned projects would be implemented smoothly. 'They must also work together with the implementing agencies as well as the monitoring agencies to ensure timely completion.' Dr Abdul Rahman also reminded contractors who had received letters of appointment (LOAs) to kick off their works within 30 days from the date of issuance. 'Agencies must ensure that this directive is strictly followed to prevent delays in project delivery,' he said. Among those present were HDA regional director Juan Ubit, State Implementation and Monitoring Unit director Sapiah Daud, Sarawak Economic Planning Unit (EPU) director Florida Gala James Mijien, HDA Construction Management (Regional Agencies) manager Edward Mathew, and HDA Socio-Economic Planning and Investment Development head Fadzil Asri.
