Husband abandons wife held in Semporna house raid SEMPORNA: A man abandoned his wife during a police drug raid on a house at Kampung Sejati 2, here, on Wednesday. The drugs seized weighed more than one kilogramme and estimated worth RM34,755.50. 'In the 7am operation, the man escaped from the kitchen window while his wife was detained for further investigation. Urine test conducted on the woman found negative for drug abuse. Abdul Rani added that efforts to track down the suspect who escaped during the operation is still ongoing.

RM177,000 petrol and beauty products seized

SEMPORNA: The General Operations Force (GOF) detained two individuals and seized petrol as well as beauty products at two separate locations, here, on Tuesday. The items worth RM177,000 were seized in the 'Ops Bersepadu Intra/Inter Agensi - Op Taring Dosej' conducted by the Intelligence Unit/Task Force of Kunak 22nd Battalion, with the Crime Investigation Division of Semporna Police Headquarters, Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, Sabah Harbour and Port Department, as well as the Royal Malaysian Customs Department. Sabah GOF Commander Datuk Abdul Rani Alias said the first seizure involving the petrol was made following a raid on an unnumbered premises in Kampung Mesra. 'An inspection on the premises found some large barrels containing petrol. The team also discovered a wooden boat behind the premises which was loaded with petrol and suspected to be smuggled out to a neighbouring country. 'The team detained a foreign suspect who admitted to involvement in petrol smuggling activities since 2023,' he said, adding the seizures were worth RM52,000. Abdul Rani said the case has been handed over to the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living for further investigation under the Control of Supplies Act 1961. In the second raid, a woman was apprehended and a four-wheel-drive (4WD) seized. Abdul Rani said an inspection of the 4WD found 11 boxes containing various beauty products without taxes and approval from the Malaysian Health Ministry (KKM). The seizures, including the 4WD, were worth RM125,000 and together with the suspect were handed over to the Customs Department for further action. 'The suspect admitted that the items were smuggled in from a neighbouring country and she has been involved in this activity since 2024,' he said. Abdul Rani said the operation showed the effectiveness of cooperation between agencies in efforts to curb smuggling activities. RM25 million smuggled goods seized in April

LAHAD DATU: The General Operation Force (GOF) detained 81 individuals and seized RM25.7 million worth of smuggled items following raids conducted in April, this year. Sabah GOF Commander, Datuk Abdul Rani Alias, said the individuals detained comprising 36 locals, 17 Filipinos, 25 China nationals, two Pakistanis and one from Indonesia. They were detained separately in 35 raids conducted by Sabah GOF throughout the State. Among the items seized during the raids are smuggled cigarettes, Crude Palm Oil (CPO), frozen foods without Halal and legal import certificates and others. 'The biggest seizures were made following the raid conducted on an unnumbered premise in Jalan POIC, Lahad Datu in which we seized 104.543 tonnes of palm oil without license. 'The seizures were estimated worth RM2.09 million. Investigation of this case was carried out under Regulation 5 (1)(D), MPOB (Licensing) Regulations 2005,' he said, in a statement, Friday. According to Abdul Rani, following another raid on a premise in Jalan Dam, Lahad Datu, GOF seized a total of 3.096 million sticks of cigarettes (Rokok Putih and Kretek). He said, during the raid, two local men were detained for investigation under the Custom Acts 1967. 'The seizures including a van which is believed used in this activity were estimated worth RM9.319 million including tax,' he said. In the meantime, Abdul Rani said GOF will continue to carry out their responsibilities in maintaining national security and public order. Frozen goods seized in KK after 560kg of spoiled food found in store
KOTA KINABALU: Nearly RM2mil worth of frozen food has been seized by the General Operations Force (GOF) after expired or spoiled items were found among goods stored on the premises. Sabah GOF Commander Datuk Abdul Rani Alias said several hundred boxes were seized and two employees, aged 22 and 44, arrested at the storage site on Jalan Makat here at about noon on Wednesday (April 23). Cmdr Abdul Rani said the raid under Ops Taring Chiller was carried out after public information and intelligence gathering on business activities at the location that were in breach of the Food Act 1983. The GOF Battalion 16 Intelligence Task Force team inspected the premises and found that frozen food in the store was mixed with expired and spoiled frozen food, he said on Friday (April 25). Among the items seized were beef, chicken thighs, potatoes, mutton, and nuggets. He said 560kg of frozen food on eight pallets was found to be damaged, spoiled, or expired. 'The total value of the seizure is RM1,932,253, including the freezer,' he added. He said the operations team handed over both suspects and the frozen food seized to the Kota Kinabalu Health Office enforcement division for further action. The case is being investigated under the Food Act and Regulation 38 of the Food Hygiene Regulations 2009.
