Passports Directorate facilitates pilgrims' departure through all international ports

Saudi Gazette report MAKKAH — The General Directorate of Passports affirmed its readiness to finalize pilgrims' departure procedures for the current Hajj season at various Saudi international air, land, and sea entry and exit points, and to facilitate their travel. The directorate stated that it has mobilized its personnel and technologies, supported by modern security systems, to implement this phase of the Hajj plan and ensure pilgrims' smooth departure. Meanwhile, the government entities in the Madinah Region have begun seeing off pilgrims returning to their home countries via Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz International Airport, after performing Hajj this year with ease and tranquility. After performing Hajj, large numbers of pilgrims are arriving in Madinah to pray at the Prophet's Mosque and greet Prophet Muhammad and his two companions. A program has been implemented to facilitate their transfer from residences to the airport. The program is overseen by the Hajj and Visit Committee in the region and relevant entities to ensure the orderly and timely departure of flights to various destinations. The Madinah airport recorded tangible success during the pre-Hajj phase by receiving Hajj flights smoothly and efficiently. During the arrival period, the airport received 719,400 pilgrims, representing 49 percent of all air-arriving pilgrims to the Kingdom during this Hajj season. These pilgrims arrived on board 1,910 flights from 196 cities in 53 countries, operated by 65 airlines, starting from April 29. This volume accounted for 60 percent of all Hajj flights received by Saudi airports during the arrival phase.

Saudi Gazette Report MAKKAH — Minister of Transport and Logistics Saleh Al-Jasser inspected on Sunday King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah to assess its operational readiness for the departure of pilgrims following the completion of their Hajj rituals. During the visit, the minister reviewed the procedures in place for receiving pilgrims and facilitating their departure, including the workflow in departure lounges, the performance of services and facilities, and overall operational efficiency. The inspection aimed at ensuring a smooth travel experience and deliver top-quality services to pilgrims in line with the highest international standards. The arrival phase of this year's Hajj season saw more than 1.4 million pilgrims arrive by air from outside the Kingdom. They traveled on over 10,000 scheduled and chartered international flights via King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah and Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Madinah. Pilgrims came from 71 countries and 238 destinations, with 11 departure halls designated for their reception.

The first flight carrying beneficiaries of the 'Makkah Route' Initiative departed today from the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire to the Kingdom through the initiative's designated terminal at Abidjan International Airport. The flight is bound for Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz International Airport in the Madinah region. The departure was attended by the Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire, Saad bin Bakhit Al-Qathami; the Minister of Interior and Security, Vagondo Diomandé; the Minister of Transport, Amadou Koné; the Special Advisor to the President of the Republic for Religious and Social Affairs, Idrissa Koné; the President of the Higher Council of Imams, Mosques, and Islamic Affairs, Ousmane Diakité; the President of the Higher Council of Imams and Sunni Organizations and Institutions, Dr. Moussa Fadiga; and the Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority, General Abdallah Koulibaly. 'Makkah Route' Initiative The 'Makkah Route' Initiative aims to provide high-quality services to the pilgrims from participating countries by facilitating and completing their travel procedures at their country of origin. This includes taking biometric data, issuing Hajj visas electronically, completing passport procedures at the departure airport after verifying health requirements, and tagging and sorting luggage according to accommodation and transport arrangements in the Kingdom. Pilgrims are then transported directly by buses to their accommodations in Makkah and Madinah through dedicated routes, while partner agencies handle the delivery of their luggage. It is noteworthy that the Ministry of Interior is implementing the initiative for the seventh consecutive year, in cooperation with the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Health, Hajj and Umrah, and Media, in coordination with the General Authority of Civil Aviation, the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority, the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA), the General Authority for Awqaf, the Guests of God Service Program, and the General Directorate of Passports. The first group of Indian pilgrims arriving for Hajj 2025 was warmly welcomed at Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Medina today as Saudi Arabia begins implementing a comprehensive logistical and service framework to accommodate millions of worshippers arriving for the annual pilgrimage. A total of 262 Indian pilgrims arriving from Hyderabad aboard Saudia Airlines were greeted with flowers, commemorative gifts, and an atmosphere of warmth and hospitality. Senior officials were on hand to receive the group, including Dr Abdulaziz Wazzan, Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah for Visit Affairs, and Dr. Suhel Ajaz Khan, India's Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, alongside representatives of various government agencies. Airport procedures were completed smoothly and efficiently thanks to the integrated coordination between service agencies operating at the facility. This marks the beginning of the seasonal influx through Medina's airport. Saudi Arabia stressed that all operational plans have been activated to manage the growing number of pilgrims expected over the coming days. These plans include full-scale readiness in healthcare, logistics, guidance, and hospitality services, part of a broader national effort to ensure that pilgrims perform their religious rites with ease, safety, and dignity. Separately, the Ministry of Interior announced that beginning today, Tuesday, April 29 (1 Dhul Qi'dah), entry to the holy city of Mecca is prohibited for all non-Hajj visa holders. Authorities also warned visitors against penalties for overstaying visas. Individuals who remain in the Kingdom beyond the expiration of their entry permit may face fines of up to SAR 50,000, imprisonment for up to six months, and deportation.
