Dubai Police boost road safety with 'Summer Without Accidents'
Dubai recorded a total of 3,481 traffic accidents during the summer months (June 1 to September 30) last year, resulting in 34 deaths and hundreds of injuries. Sudden lane changes, tailgating, running red lights and distracted driving were the key causes of these accidents. The stats have been revealed by Dubai Police as they ramp up traffic safety efforts as part of the nationwide 'Summer Without Accidents' campaign, launched by the Ministry of Interior. The initiative, which runs until September 1, is focused on raising awareness, enforcing rules and protecting lives amid Dubai's growing traffic volume. Major General Abdullah Ali Al Ghaithi, Assistant Commandant for Operations Affairs, stressed the importance of public awareness and strict adherence to traffic rules, especially during the busy summer months. Dubai has seen rapid growth in both infrastructure and road users, making traffic safety a top priority. Al Ghaithi praised the collaboration between public and private sectors, calling it vital to reducing accidents and saving lives. Summer Accident Statistics 2024: 3,481 accidents, 34 deaths, 43 serious injuries, 404 moderate injuries, and 329 minor injuries. 2023: 4,595 accidents, 27 deaths, 46 serious injuries, 317 moderate injuries, and 292 minor injuries. 2022: 5,285 accidents, 36 deaths, 30 serious injuries, 231 moderate injuries, and 246 minor injuries. Dubai Police launch tactical robot for high-risk field operations
Dubai Police have launched a new tactical robot designed to navigate tight or hazardous spaces, offering greater flexibility in field operations. The cutting-edge addition aims to enhance field readiness through smart technologies and advanced tactical equipment. The Caliber® Mini-FLEX robot weighs just 36.7kg but is capable of carrying objects up to 11kg. It can climb stairs at angles of up to 45 degrees using its articulated front and rear legs. Designed for agility, it is equipped with a high-resolution camera system with front, rear, and zoom capabilities, as well as an arm-mounted camera supported by infrared and white LED lighting for visibility in all conditions. Controlled through a portable touchscreen unit or a gaming-style controller, the robot supports IP Mesh technology, enabling it to work collaboratively with other FLEX units. It features a non-recoil water disruptor system, a weapon-mounted camera, a firing circuit, a collision alert system, and supports real-time video and audio streaming via a 3D interface that displays its status, location, and active tools. The launch was led by Major General Abdullah Ali Al Ghaithi, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Operations at Dubai Police, who stressed the strategic importance of the robot's deployment. "Deploying this specialised robot reflects Dubai Police's dedication to bolstering its technical infrastructure and equipping field teams with the latest tools to ensure safe and effective operations in complex environments," said Major General Al Ghaithi. 'Partnering with leading international firms such as ICOR showcases our commitment to adopting global best practices and integrating them within a comprehensive security system aligned with Dubai's strategic goals,' he added.

Dubai Police has unveiled the Defender HSE P400 as the latest addition to its luxury patrol fleet, marking the first time the Defender model joins its ranks. The announcement came on the opening day of the World Police Summit at the Dubai World Trade Centre. Supplied by Al Tayer Motors, the exclusive UAE dealer for Land Rover, the high-performance SUV was introduced in a ceremony led by Major General Abdullah Ali Al Ghaithi, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Operations at Dubai Police. Dubai Police take action against football match rioters
Dubai Police have confirmed the arrest of several individuals following disturbances after a UAE Pro League match between Al Wasl and Shabab Al Ahli football clubs. Major General Abdullah Ali Al Ghaithi, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Operations Affairs at Dubai Police, said an immediate investigation was launched after the match, using surveillance footage to identify those involved. Legal action has been taken, and the suspects have been referred to the relevant authorities. Major General Al Ghaithi stressed the importance of keeping stadiums safe and respectful, urging fans to avoid unruly behaviour. He also praised the efforts of police teams in maintaining order and providing security at stadiums, warning that any breach of fan conduct or safety rules will be met with firm legal action. In a related move, the UAE Football Association's Disciplinary Committee has issued fines following its review of the incident: Shabab Al Ahli Club was fined AED 70,000 for fans verbally abusing rival supporters and throwing bottles onto the pitch and at other fans.
