Second Emirati-Iraqi Business Forum Discusses Enhancing Trade Partnerships

The Federation of UAE Chambers of Commerce and Industry, in cooperation with the Federation of Iraqi Chambers of Commerce, organized the Second Emirati-Iraqi Business Forum this week in Dubai. The event took place on the sidelines of the Iraqi trade delegation's visit to the UAE from May 1st to 2nd. The forum witnessed the participation of more than 170 companies from major institutions and corporations in both countries, state news agency WAM reported. Over 250 bilateral business meetings were held between representatives of various sectors, most notably real estate, contracting, tourism, hospitality, energy, renewable energy, logistics services, healthcare, and artificial intelligence, in addition to bilateral meetings between the chambers of commerce. Abdullah Sultan Al Owais, Vice Chairman of the Federation of UAE Chambers of Commerce and Industry and Chairman of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, affirmed the keenness of the chambers of commerce and private sector representatives to support and enhance trade and investment cooperation between the UAE and the Republic of Iraq. He pointed out the importance of the "Together for Partnerships" initiative, launched in cooperation between the Federation of UAE Chambers and the International Development Bank - Dubai Branch, which aims to be a link and a bridge for investors and business owners between the two brotherly countries. During the opening session, Dr. Mudhaffar Mustafa Al-Jubouri, the Iraqi Ambassador to the UAE, praised the depth of the brotherly and cooperative relations between Iraq and the UAE. He also emphasized the importance of strengthening economic partnership and expanding the horizons of cooperation in various fields, in a way that achieves sustainable development and economic prosperity for both countries.

The Forum was organized by the Federation of UAE Chambers of Commerce and Industry , in cooperation with the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and the Federation of Iraqi Chambers of Commerce, on the sidelines of the Iraqi trade delegation's visit to the UAE from May 1 to 2. The Forum opened with a welcome address delivered by Abdullah Sultan Al Owais, Vice Chairman of the Federation of UAE Chambers of Commerce and Industry and Chairman of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI). He emphasized the commitment of the chambers of commerce, private sector representatives, and companies to supporting and strengthening trade and investment cooperation between the UAE and the Republic of Iraq. He also highlighted the role of the pioneering 'Ma'an (Together)' initiative launched by the Federation of UAE Chambers of Commerce and Industry and the International Development Bank (IDB)-UAE, as an essential platform facilitating business connectivity and investment flows between the two brotherly countries. For his part, Dr. Muzaffar Mustafa Al-Jubouri, Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to the UAE, praised the strong ties of fraternity and cooperation between the two countries. He stressed the need to strengthen economic partnership and expand the horizons of trade and investment cooperation between Iraq and the UAE in an aim to support sustainable development and economic prosperity. He also commended the UAE's advanced economic environment and its potential as a catalyst for supporting Iraq's development initiatives. During the forum, Dr. Khalifa Al Raisi representing the Department of Economic and Commercial Affairs at the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs delivered an introductory presentation under the theme 'Invest in the UAE – Invest in the Future.' The presentation outlined the key investment incentives and advantages in the UAE, the robust legal and regulatory landscape, and the country's growing diversification across non-oil sectors. Over 170 leading companies from the UAE and Iraq took part in the forum, during which more than 250 B2B meetings were conducted across a wide range of sectors, including real estate, construction, tourism and hospitality, energy and renewables, logistics, healthcare, and artificial intelligence. The event also featured bilateral meetings between participating chambers of commerce. In conjunction with the Iraqi trade delegation's visit to the UAE, the UAE-Iraq Business Council convened its first official meeting. The session was co-chaired by Humaid Mohamed Ben Salem, Secretary General of the Federation of UAE Chambers, and Ahmed Waleed Ahmed on behalf of the Iraqi side. Humaid Ben Salem expressed his pride and warm welcome at the convening of the first meeting of the UAE-Iraq Business Council, which was attended by more than 45 entrepreneurs and business leaders from both the UAE and the Republic of Iraq.

UOS hosts 10th Int'l Forum on Innovation and Entrepreneurship

The award aims to foster innovation and entrepreneurship among university and high school students in the United Arab Emirates by providing a platform that encourages young people to develop their creative ideas and transform them into viable, real-world projects. This year, the total prize pool amounts to AED 100,000, distributed among winners in both school and university categories. The award winners will be announced and honored during the proceedings of the 10 th International Forum on Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Innovation and Entrepreneurship Expounding on the University of Sharjah's support of talented and innovative students, His Excellency Prof. Hamid M. K. Al Naimiy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, emphasized that the University places a high priority on encouraging entrepreneurship. This is achieved through the establishment of startups and the promotion of innovative and sustainable scientific research to serve the community, thereby contributing to the development of an innovative and sustainable educational environment. The University also seeks to promote the concepts of entrepreneurship, startups, patents, and innovation among its students and faculty. Partnership between the University and the Sharjah Chamber In the same vein, Prof. Ilhan Ozturk, Dean of the College of Business Administration at the University of Sharjah, praised the strategic partnership between the University and the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, describing it as an exemplary model of collaboration between academic institutions and the economic sectors. He stated, 'The award and the International Forum on Innovation and Entrepreneurship are instrumental in building a generation that is aware and capable of keeping pace with rapid changes in technology and the labor market, enhancing their ability to develop innovative solutions that positively contribute to societal development.' Award Tracks and Objectives Dr. Shaker Bani-Melhem, Chair of the Management Department at the College of Business Administration, explained that the award aims to empower students to develop their ideas and transform them into practical applications that make a tangible difference in their communities and the world. He added that the award honors eight winning teams, equally divided between school and university categories, ensuring equal opportunities for participants to present their innovations. The award features two main tracks: the sustainable innovation and employability track, which focuses on projects offering sustainable solutions and enhancing job opportunities, and the innovative projects track, which accepts entries of entrepreneurial projects providing creative solutions to societal challenges. The International Forum on Innovation and Entrepreneurship, organized annually by the University of Sharjah, serves as a comprehensive platform that brings together innovators and startup founders from around the world.
