Pictures show scale of fierce car fire which shut major road

A major road was partially closed on Saturday after a car burst into flames. The A470 was shut southbound while emergency services dealt with the fire. The incident happened at around 4.26pm in the Cilfynydd area. The flames spread across the carriageway of the stretch of road between Abercynon and Pontypridd. South Wales Fire and Rescue Service sent two fire engines to the scene. A witness to the incident told WalesOnline that they saw an ambulance at the scene, however South Wales Police have since confirmed that nobody were injured. The police were called to the scene shortly after the fire service, at 4.31pm, to assist with the fire, involving a Mercedes Benz. South Wales Fire Service confirmed to us at 8.25pm that the car fire had been put out and the car had been cleared from the road. A spokesperson for South Wales Police said they were alerted to a car fire on the A470 southbound carriageway between Abercynon and Pontypridd. They said: "In order to ensure the safety of the occupants and South Wales Fire and Rescue Service personnel engaged in fighting the fire, it was necessary to close the carriageway for a short period of time and this was done with the assistance of Welsh Assembly Traffic Officers. "No persons were injured and we would like to thank any persons caught in the tail back for their patience and co-operation during this delay. POLICE have launched a desperate appeal for information after three young teens were reported missing. The three youths disappeared from Abercynon area of Rhondda Cynon Taf at 8.15am on Thursday, May 15. They were last seen wearing their school uniforms and officers believe they are together. 4 4 4 Images of the three teens have been released with locals urged to contact South Wales Police immediately if they spot any of them. Cali, aged 13, Ruby, aged 14, and Thomas, aged 14, disappeared without a trace yesterday and have not been seen since. Police have asked anyone with information on the three youth's whereabouts to contact them urgently. South Wales Police said: "Cali, aged 13, Ruby, aged 14, and Thomas, aged 14, have been reported as missing. "They are believed to be together and were last seen in the Abercynon area at 8.15am on 15 May. "Cali is around 5ft3, with long brown hair, and was last seen wearing a school uniform comprising of grey trousers, a grey jumper white shirt, and red tie. She also may have a bruised left eye. "Ruby is around 5ft5, with long brown hair and was last seen wearing a school uniform comprising of grey trousers, a grey jumper, a white shirt, and red tie. She also has a nose ring. "Thomas is described at 5ft6, with dark brown hair and glasses. He was last seen wearing a school uniform comprising of grey trousers, a grey jumper, a white shirt, and a red and black tie. "They are believed to have links to the Rhydyfelin, Cilfynydd, and Nantgarw areas. "Anyone who may have seen them, or who has information which will help us find them, is asked to contact us by one of the below means quoting occurrence number 2500152951."
