Prayagraj: Three unidentified armed assailants shot at an elderly history-sheeter Ashok Kumar, a resident of Georgetown near Daraganj Dott Bridge Road on Friday morning. The incident took place when the victim went for a morning walk. Upon being alerted, senior police officials, along with forces, rushed to the spot and carried out an investigation. The injured history-sheeter was initially admitted to SRN Hospital but was later discharged by the doctors after the treatment. The injured elderly man sustained gunshot wounds in his wrist and thigh. Though the exact cause behind the attack is still unknown, old enmity was cited as the initial reason behind the incident. Police is scanning CCTV footage to ascertain identities of the assailants. DCP (City) Abhishek Bharti told TOI that the injured man was a history-sheeter was attacked by some bike-borne armed assailants at 5:30am on Friday morning. 1 2 Prayagraj: As many as 18 pilgrims were injured after the pickup vehicle they were travelling in overturned near the Sangam area after the driver lost control of the vehicle on Friday morning. All the injured passengers were admitted to SRN Hospital of which one has been put on ventilator support. The pilgrims had come from Tikamgarh, Madhya Pradesh, for a holy bath in Sangam. DCP City Abhishek Bharti said the accident took place near Bandhwa area on Fort Road. "Preliminary investigation indicate that the vehicle was overloaded leading it to lose balance," he said. All 4 Pak citizens in Prayagraj on short-term visas have returned, say police

In the aftermath of the terror attack on tourists in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam on April 22, police are keeping a close watch on Pakistani nationals living in Prayagraj on long-term or short-term visas, authorities said. According to reports, around 31 Pakistani citizens had arrived in Prayagraj on long-term visas and four on short-term visas before the Mahakumbh Mela. Prayagraj police commissioner Tarun Gaba said that all four Pakistani nationals on short-term visas, all women--including one who had arrived for medical treatment--had returned to their country. He added that one of them returned to Pakistan on Friday, while the remaining three left for their country on Saturday. DCP (city) Abhishek Bharti said information regarding the status of Pakistani nationals who had arrived in Prayagraj was being collected. 'Presently, we cannot divulge any details owing to the sensitive nature of the matter, but the Local Intelligence Unit (LIU) is keeping a close watch on all such Pakistani nationals, as they are required to leave the country by the official deadline,' he said. The police are also monitoring social media to track and prevent the spread of any rumours that could disrupt peace. Authorities have appealed to the public not to spread or believe in any such misinformation. It may be mentioned that directives have been issued to Pakistani citizens residing in Prayagraj to return to their homeland before April 27 in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack.

1 2 Prayagraj: In a major development, a joint team of Civil Lines police , Special Operation Group (SOG), and surveillance cell on Tuesday arrested a notorious burglar identified as Rakesh Kumar Saroj (36), a resident of Hathigaon (Pratapgarh) and seized stolen gold jewellery weighing around 50 grams, Rs 4.98 lakh in cash, and one car from his possession. The arrested burglar has a criminal record, with more than 20 cases, including 15 in Delhi alone, registered against him across the country. The arrest of the burglar was made near Rajapur graveyard road while he was planning to escape. DCP (City) Abhishek Bharti told TOI that a group of three burglars had executed a burglary at the house of the Assistant Commissioner (GST) located at a posh apartment on Thornhill Road under the limits of Civil Lines police station on April 14 this year. Following the incident, an FIR under section 3(5) 331 (4), 305, 317 (2), 317 (4), and 112 (2) of BNS was registered. When the joint police teams started investigating the case, the cops found that the group of burglars arrived at the site of the incident in an SUV and executed the burglary after breaking the main door of the flat. The burglar's gang used to target locked houses in posh colonies across the country. The burglars also prefer to wear masks to avoid being identified in CCTVs and alwys execute thefts in groups. They used to carry lock-breaking apparatus and travelled in SUVs from one city to another. Additional DCP (City) Abhijeet Kumar told TOI that as many as 20 criminal cases, including 15 in Delhi, one each in Surat (Gujarat), Lucknow (UP), Vardhman (WB), Kanpur (UP), and Prayagraj (UP), were registered against Rakesh Kumar Saroj, who travelled from one state to another to execute thefts and burglaries. He added, "The notorious thief was residing at a rented accommodation in Delhi." ADCP further claimed that the gang conducted recee of locked houses during the daytime and execute crimes in the late night hours. After committing a crime, they prefer to move to another state or city to evade the cops.
