Company leads school sanitation drive for learner dignity in Kagiso
In the spirit of service and dignity, Ceramic Industries, through its Betta Factory and Betta Factory Shop, completed a comprehensive upgrade of the ablution facilities at Thembile Primary School in Kagiso recently as part of its annual Mandela Day Community Initiative.
According to Ceramic Industries' corporate social investment manager, Tabisa Ngubo, this act reflects the group's ongoing commitment to supporting schools within its operational communities, focusing on education, infrastructure enhancement, and youth empowerment.
'The company issued a public call to local primary schools and crèches in Krugersdorp to apply for support under its Ablution Dignity Drive. Schools were invited to submit written motivations detailing the condition of their facilities and their broader needs. Thembile Primary School was chosen for its compelling submission and evident need for safe, functional sanitation facilities for both learners and staff,' Tabisa explained.
The upgrade included:
• New toilets, taps, urinals, and basins
• Tiles and adhesives
• Installation assistance provided by local SMME partners
• A thorough clean-up and minor refurbishments
• Donation of hygiene essentials to the school
Senior factory manager at Betta Sanitaryware, Zamo Shangase, added that the upgrade emphasises improving the facilities so learners can benefit fully from their school environment.
'We know that access to clean, safe sanitation is vital for restoring dignity in learning settings. This handover is about more than physical infrastructure; it's about giving young people the respect they deserve. We cannot grow as a company if our communities remain behind. This initiative is part of our duty, not just as a business, but as citizens committed to nation-building,' Zamo stated.
The handover was attended by community stakeholders and partners such as the Department of Education and members of the Eyethu Yarona Foundation, among others.
All expressed gratitude and highlighted the importance of collaboration between the private sector and public institutions.
'As a proudly South African company, we believe in meaningful, measurable impact. Projects like this demonstrate what's possible when we unite heart, hands, and resources,' said Tabisa.
