Gargash: Middle East can "rise from the rubble of crises"
The diplomatic advisor to the UAE President, Anwar Gargash, said the Middle East has an opportunity to "turn a new page" and become a prosperous region.
"Today, we have a real opportunity to rise from the rubble of crises, wars, and ideological illusions toward a brighter future through dialogue, coexistence, and cooperation" Gargash said on social media platform X.
He added: "Just as East Asian countries have successfully risen to the challenge of development, we too can turn a new page. It's time to give this region the hope and advanced position it deserves in the world."
The statement comes after the region was spun into chaos when Israel attacked Iran last month, bringing the two rivals face-to-face after decades of discord. Israel and Iran agreed to a ceasefire after 12 days of tit-for-tat attacks, the limited military involvement of the US, and Iran's strikes on a US base in Qatar in response.
The regional flareup was followed by reports of talks to expand the Abrahamic Accords, a series of normalization agreements between Israel and countries in the region, led by Donald Trump during his first term, that included the UAE, Bahrain, Sudan, and Morocco. The latest expansion is expected to include Syria, with direct talks being held between its new administration and Israel, only months after the ouster of Iran loyalist Bashar al-Assad.
