Fourth annual Sweet Corn Day brings neighbors together in Savanna

Sweet Corn Appreciation Day is set to return for its fourth year, promising "a-maize-ing" fun for all ages. State Rep. Tony McCombie is scheduled to host the event on Aug. 1 at 9317 Illinois Route 84 in Savanna from 4 to 7 p.m., according to a community announcement. McCombie passed legislation in 2022 to make Aug. 1 the official Sweet Corn Appreciation Day in Illinois. Staged construction is planned, with two lanes of traffic open in each direction throughout the project. Center lane work will take place at night. The $7.6 million project is expected to be completed by Nov. 15, according to the announcement. Drivers are urged to pay attention to changed conditions, obey posted speed limits, avoid mobile device use and watch for workers and equipment in the work zone.
