UAE: Abu Dhabi issues warning over unauthorised flyers and posters — fines up to Dh4,000
Abu Dhabi authorities have issued a stern warning against the unauthorised posting of flyers and posters in public spaces, with fines of up to Dh4,000 for violators. This measure is part of ongoing efforts to preserve the city's aesthetic appeal and prevent the defacement of public areas. In a recent statement on social media, the Abu Dhabi Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) reinforced that placing printed or written materials in public spaces without prior approval is strictly prohibited. The DMT is actively enforcing Law No. 2 of 2012, which aims to protect the city's cleanliness, visual appeal, and public safety. According to Clause No. 56, placing materials on parked vehicles, poles, or any public structure requires explicit authorisation. Public awareness drive It's advisable for individuals and businesses looking to display any form of public notices or advertisements in Abu Dhabi to seek official approvals to avoid these hefty fines. This likely involves contacting the Abu Dhabi Municipality or the relevant department to understand the regulations and obtain the necessary permits. As part of its ongoing awareness efforts, the DMT is urging residents to keep residential alleys, public walkways, and commercial areas clean. Littering or dumping waste in non-designated spaces—such as sidewalks or between buildings—is a violation of municipal law and poses health risks. Residents are encouraged to report violations and help clear shared spaces to support hygiene and maintain the emirate's image. New rules on rooftop and balcony storage In a related initiative, the DMT has issued new regulations targeting the improper use of rooftops and balconies. Storing materials in a way that disrupts the building's visual appeal or endangers public health is now punishable under the law. Fines for violations: Dh500 for the first offence Dh1,000 for the second Dh2,000 for third and repeat offences The department specifically warned against storing disused furniture, construction debris, or general clutter, which can damage Abu Dhabi's image and pose safety hazards. Inspections and enforcement underway To ensure compliance, DMT teams are conducting citywide inspections across Abu Dhabi and its suburbs. The department has called on residents, businesses, and property owners to follow the regulations and help uphold the capital's high standards of cleanliness and order.

Abu Dhabi: How pet owners can register for mandatory animal ownership system
Pet owners in Abu Dhabi are required to mandatorily register their microchipped furry friends under an animal ownership system, under a new law that was announced recently. Registrations have been made compulsory from February 3, 2025, with a one-year grace period being offered to individuals to complete registrations without penalties. However, establishments who own cats and dogs must complete their registration process within six months. As per the Abu Dhabi Department of Municipalities and Transport, pet owners will be required to go to veterinary facilities to register their cats and dogs and apply through the online ownership service on TAMM platform via them. The registration aims to reduce stray animal population, track pet records, enable proper identification and improve animal welfare. In the Capital city, abandoning a pet is a violation of animal welfare laws. Violators will be imposed with a fine of Dh2,000 for leaving pets on the street. Meanwhile, for neglecting or mistreating animals, there is a fine of up to Dh5,000 under Article 471 of the UAE Penal Code. Here is a simple guide to registering your pet in the city. Process Pet owners living in Abu Dhabi can register their cats or dogs through the TAMM platform and generate an animal certificate. The process is free of cost. The following documents are required to apply for the process: Commercial licence Reference number Veterinary medical report How to apply Applicants must log into the platform using their UAE Pass. They must then submit the application along with the required documents. Applicants will then be able to obtain the animal file number or animal registration certificate. Important things to know An animal registration certificate will be issued only after the necessary immunizations are completed. The animal's age must exceed 12 weeks to apply for the certificate. If a pet's age does not exceed 12 weeks, only a personal file number is issued for the animal until the completion of the necessary immunizations and the age of the animal exceeds the required age. If these conditions are met, the animal's personal file is renewed according to the validity period of the immunizations and the animal's registration certificate is issued. The registration certificate is valid only for one year and expires on the date of completion of the vaccination.

Abu Dhabi ‘trying to reduce blue-collar population' as it focuses on knowledge-based economy
Abu Dhabi is focusing on knowledge-based sectors that employ white-collar professionals, and trying to reduce the blue-collar workforce, a senior official said on Wednesday. 'We're trying to reduce the blue-collar population, [although] we're thankful for them ... We're looking for companies that have technologies that Abu Dhabi can really make use of; for example, the vertical-farming technologies." "For example, a lot of vertical-farming technology companies have been given incentives that are making the emirate a springboard for regional expansion. This gives Abu Dhabi more traction to attract other investors within that sector,' said Mohamed Al Shorafa, chairman of the Abu Dhabi Department of Municipalities and Transport. Abu Dhabi's population has grown exponentially in the past four years, making the emirate the most populated city in the UAE. The city aims to double its population by 2040. The Statistics Centre Abu Dhabi (SCAD) reported in June 2024 that the population of the capital reached 3.789 million, an increase of 83 per cent compared to 2011. The employed workforce is divided into 46 per cent white-collar workers, a category that has seen a 109 per cent surge since 2011, and 54 per cent blue-collar workers, a group that has experienced 65 per cent growth compared to 2011. 'Based on the Falcon Economy Strategy, we are anticipating to double the population by 2040.' The UAE federal government is also pushing towards attracting and establishing knowledge and innovation-based firms which will require more white-collar professionals to drive the economy to the next stage of growth. 20% autonomous taxis by 2030 He noted that Abu Dhabi is investing a lot into AI, and attracting companies that are investing in artificial intelligence in different sectors. 'Most of our decision-making is driven through data and AI. We have a lot of sensors, and intelligent traffic systems that can give us data that helps anticipate where the congestion might happen,' he said during the Investopia 2025 conference in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday. Abu Dhabi was the first in the region to launch autonomous taxi in 2021. 'By 2030, we are targeting 20 per cent of our public taxis to be autonomous. We're working a lot with international companies that have already invested in our autonomous sandboxes and our pilot projects. We've invested in the electrification of our bus network as well, and more will come. We're in discussion with private players to come and develop their own mobility systems and platforms so that all systems can talk to each other and make it easier for people.' Al Shorafa also noted that the most important investment that the government is making is in the development of transportation infrastructure. 'We've earmarked over Dh65 billion for transportation projects including tunnels, new roads and expansions of existing networks,' he said.
