The blaze at Henley College in Coventry broke out at around 7.15pm last night, with around 75 firefighters tackling the inferno at its peak. Plumes of thick black smoke could be seen from miles away as around 45 firefighters continued to limit the flames this morning. Residents were told to keep their windows and doors shut as the ferocious blaze chucked dark smoke into the skies above the city. Some residents even lost power overnight, with West Midlands Fire Service confirming electricity supplies were restored around five hours ago. A nearby electrical substation had been temporarily shut down overnight in order to "ensure the safety of the site and substation", West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS) said. Abu Hassan, 26, a data analyst who attended Henley College and lives nearby, took photos and videos of the blaze yesterday and today. He said: "As I came home, the smoke was right near my house and the area was being cordoned. "I realised the college was on fire. "It's a big college for everyone in the community - nobody in the area hasn't been through it in some way. "There was a big response from emergency services - they worked all through the night. "But they were very respectful and tried to be quiet." WMFS said today 70 per cent of the derelict college had been affected by the fire. In its most recent update at 10am, the service said: "Ten fire engines and two hydraulic aerial platforms remain at the scene as we look to surround and extinguish the fire fully. "Henley Road remains closed to vehicles. "Fire Investigation officers will be arriving at the scene shortly to begin their work." More to follow... Abu Hassan said that the amendments, which sparked controversy within economic sectors and the wider pubic, are currently under review by the Lower House, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. He said that an agreement has been reached with the government to open a dialogue with all sectors to clarify the bill's articles and address any misunderstandings. Abu Hassan stressed that the draft law would not impose any additional burden on taxpayers, nor would it introduce tax increases; instead, it would entail reductions, as pledged by the prime minister and endorsed by the Lower Chamber. He added that these discussions would continue over the coming months, and the draft law would be presented to the Lower House during the next House session. The Cabinet, during a recent session chaired by Prime Minister Jafar Hassan, endorsed draft amendments to the 2025 Real Estate Ownership Law. The Cabinet at the time said that the amendments aimed at 'streamlining' land registration procedures and 'facilitating' the dissolution of joint ownership. The amendments grant expanded authority to the Department of Lands and Survey, enabling it to deliver 'faster, more efficient services and reduce bureaucratic hurdles.' The amended bill introduces mechanisms to regulate joint ownership dissolution committees and provides guidelines for determining fair compensation in cases of public expropriation. It also addresses existing legal gaps by allowing companies, non-Jordanians, and legal entities to acquire property in specific unincorporated areas, which was previously restricted. Under the new framework, legal entities engaged in lease financing will be able to obtain property permits directly from the Department of Lands and Survey and the Ministry of Finance, eliminating the need for Cabinet approval. The move aims to 'streamline' procedures and 'enhance' investor access to Jordan's property market.

The visit comes as part of the "Industrial Tourism" programme implemented by the Kyrgyz private sector, which aims to strengthen bilateral economic and trade relations and open "new" horizons for cooperation in the industrial sector, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. Abu Hassan referred to "significant" opportunities to develop "brotherly" relations, praising this visit, which reflects the "shared" desire to develop economic partnerships. Noting the Kingdom's advantages, he referred to Jordan's "strategic" geographical location, political and economic stability, and its "attractive" investment environment supported by a network of free trade agreements connecting Jordan to numerous global markets. Talks during the meeting went over opportunities for cooperation for the two countries' industrialists, underlining importance of exchanging trade delegations, facilitating trade exchanges and transferring expertise in training and industrial development fields. The two sides agreed to continue coordination to develop "feasible" initiatives that would support bilateral relations and enhance cooperation in various economic and industrial fields, achieve common interests and contribute to the two countries' "sustainable" growth.
