Abu Raghif: We stand with press freedom as a fundamental pillar for the prosperity of democracy
Baghdad - INA Chairman of the Communications and Media Commission, Nawfal Abu Raghif, affirmed today, Saturday, our support for a free press as a fundamental pillar for the prosperity of democracy. In a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Abu Raghif said, "With reverence, pride, and appreciation, we commemorate World Press Freedom Day on May 3 of each year. On this significant annual occasion, living consciences celebrate the renewal of the pledge and adherence to the values of free speech and humane stances. Efforts combine to promote press freedom worldwide. Free peoples champion the independence of speech and stand confidently with the media and its noble mission in promoting freedoms and confronting all forms of intimidation, misinformation, and restrictions that hinder expression." He continued, "We, at the Communications and Media Commission, while affirming our constitutional and professional commitment to a sound media landscape, affirm Iraq's diverse, unified, democratic identity. We stand with press freedom as a fundamental pillar for the prosperity of democracy and responsible freedom. We will continue our tireless work to create a safe and independent environment for journalists, enabling them to perform their duties with professionalism, dignity, and transparency." He continued, "On this special, momentous day, we must remember with deep gratitude the sacrifices of journalists who gave their lives to convey the truth, serving as beacons and lamps that illuminate the path." He added, "We also appreciate the courageous efforts of our colleagues working in media institutions across the spectrum, despite the grave challenges and risks, in order to elevate the voice of citizenship and the public interest."

CMC President takes part in an expanded workshop in Baghdad, 60 American companies attended
Chairman of the Communications and Media Commission, Nawfal Abu Raghif, participated in an expanded workshop held in Baghdad on Wednesday. He affirmed Iraq's commitment to protecting freedom of expression and opinion and user rights, and to fostering a transparent competitive environment that ensures quality services and meets international standards. The CMC stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The US-Iraq Business Council, in cooperation with the American Chamber of Commerce, hosted the Chairman of the CMC, Nawfal Abu Raghif, in an expanded workshop held in Baghdad. The workshop was attended by a high-level economic delegation of 101 figures representing approximately 60 American companies operating in the energy, technology, and health sectors." The statement explained that "Abu Raghif began the workshop with a speech in which he reviewed the regulatory duties of the CMC in the media and communications sectors," emphasizing "Iraq's commitment to protecting freedom of expression and opinion and user rights, and fostering a transparent competitive environment that ensures quality services and meets international standards." In his comprehensive remarks, he referred to "the intensive work being done to adopt advanced oversight mechanisms to regulate the market, in light of the applicable law and approved media regulations," emphasizing "the importance of balancing freedom of expression, content regulation, intellectual property protection, and its commitment to media pluralism within the framework of the constitution and the law." He also noted "the Commission's openness to reputable international companies, particularly American companies, given their experience in economic development and the transfer of modern technology," noting that "the next phase will witness qualitative opportunities in the fields of communications and digital transformation." In the interactive section, the Chairman of the Commission responded to "inquiries and interventions from representatives of American companies, which addressed work mechanisms, regulatory legislation, facilitating procedures, and prospects for future partnerships," emphasizing that "the Commission welcomes all initiatives that contribute to supporting the business environment and technological development in the country."
