The First Additional Special Court for Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act Cases in Madurai has sentenced V. Agni Hasan, C. Jayaseelan and M. Pandithurai to 14 year rigorous imprisonment for possession of 45 kg of ganja in 2023 in Dindigul. First Additional Special Court Judge A. S. Hariharakumar imposed a fine of ₹1 lakh each on the accused. Dindigul police arrested the accused and registered a case. The police team intercepted the vehicles belonging to the accused on Dindigul-Batlagundu road and had seized the ganja.

The First Additional Special Court for Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act Cases in Madurai on Tuesday sentenced two persons to 20-year rigorous imprisonment for smuggling 332 kg of ganja in Madurai in 2020. First Additional Special Court Judge A.S. Hariharakumar sentenced R. Malaisamy and R. Shanmugaprabhu to 20-year rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹2 lakh each on the accused. The court acquitted eight others in the case. The Subramaniapuram police intercepted a truck belonging to the accused on Muthupatti-Avaniapuram road and seized the ganja. In a separate case, the Special Court on Monday sentenced four persons to 12-year rigorous imprisonment for smuggling 322 kg of ganja in Madurai in 2022. The court sentenced K. Jayakumar, P. Ramesh, V. Deivam and T. Rajendran to 12-year rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹1 lakh each on the accused. The court acquitted three others in the case. The Austinpatti police intercepted three vehicles belonging to the accused near Thoppur and seized the ganja. The ganja was seized from a truck, an SUV and an auto-rickshaw.

The Special Court for Essential Commodities and Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act Cases in Madurai has sentenced D. Raju alias Mahendra Banoth to 10-year rigorous imprisonment for smuggling 124 kg ganja in Madurai in 2018. According to a press release, the Special Court also imposed a fine of ₹3 lakh on Raju who is from Warangal district in Telangana. In 2018, the Madurai Narcotics Intelligence Bureau CID Unit officers and the police conducted a vehicle check on Madurai - Theni road. They intercepted a car bearing Andhra Pradesh registration number and conducted a search. The officers seized 124 kg of ganja from the car.

Two brothers from Madurai on Thursday created ruckus on the Madurai District Court campus after they were convicted by the Special Court for possession of ganja. The First Additional Special Court for Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act Cases in Madurai had sentenced A. Pandiyarajan, his wife P. Saranya and brother A. Prasanth alias Jacky to 12 year-rigorous imprisonment for the possession of 25 kg ganja in Madurai in 2024. First Additional Special Court Judge A. S. Hariharakumar also imposed a fine of ₹1 lakh each. The Keerathurai police had arrested the accused and registered a case in 2024. Following the conviction, Pandiyarajan and Prasanth created ruckus outside the court hall. The convicts threatened the judge and the police personnel using foul language. They also broke the windowpanes in the court hall before the police took them away. They are lodged at the Madurai Central Prison. The Anna Nagar Police have registered a case. In a separate case, the Special Court sentenced S. Deivam of Madurai to 14-year rigorous imprisonment for the possession of 78 kg ganja in Madurai in 2018. The court also imposed a fine of ₹1 lakh. The trial was split up. Earlier, the court had sentenced four other accused Ravichandran, Dharmapandi, Kasipandi and Ravi to 10 year rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹1 lakh each. The Sedapatti police had registered a case. In another case, the court sentenced M. Murugan of Andipatti in Theni district to 14-year rigorous imprisonment for the possession of 22 kg dry ganja. The court also imposed a fine of ₹1 lakh. Theni NIB-CID police had registered a case in 2019.

The First Additional Special Court for Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act Cases in Madurai has sentenced two persons to 14-year rigorous imprisonment for being in possession of 240 kg of dry ganja in Theni district in 2011. Special Court Judge A.S. Hariharakumar sentenced N. Raja and C. Sivamani and also imposed a fine of ₹1 lakh on them each. Two other accused — Balamurugan and Malaisamy — died during the pendency of the trial. Theni NIB CID Police arrested the accused and registered the case. The police intercepted a car belonging to the accused on Theni-Cumbum Road and seized the ganja.
