Former Liverpool star Thiago watched on alongside his wife Julia, who stunned on the red carpet. The Spaniard wore a long black dress with silver heels and walked hand in hand with her husband. Fans loved the look and heaped praise on Julia. One reacted saying: "Pure class 😍👌🏻" Another added: "How beautiful." A third wrote: "Glam and beautiful." And another commented: "Stunning Couple!!"

Simone Biles scoops another prize as US superstar gymnast is named Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year - with Real Madrid and Lamine Yamal also winning awards
Simone Biles stole the show in Madrid on Monday night as she was crowned Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year for a record-equalling fourth time. The US superstar gymnast picked up the prestigious prize at the Laureus World Sports Awards following her success at last year's Paris Olympics, where she claimed three gold medals and a silver. Biles has now drawn level with fellow American Serena Williams ' haul of four wins in the women's category at the sporting Oscars, having also claimed the Comeback of the Year award last year. 'I'm so happy to be here in Madrid and to receive my fourth Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year award,' said the 28-year-old, who was also at the Bernabeu for Real Madrid 's 1-0 win over Athletic Bilbao on Sunday. 'I won this award for the first time in 2017 and Laureus has been a part of my story since then. I am proud to have added to my collection.' Award winners are decided by the 69 members of the Laureus World Sports Academy, a rollcall of sporting icons including Boris Becker, Cafu, Michael Johnson, Sachin Tendulkar and Jack Nicklaus. They voted another Olympic hero, Mondo Duplantis, as Sportsman of the Year after he defended his pole vault title in Paris by breaking his own world record. The Swede, 25, is only the second track and field athlete to win the award after Usain Bolt - and he was presented with his statuette by last year's recipient Novak Djokovic. 'The list of past winners of this award is like a history of sporting greatness over the past 25 years,' said Duplantis. 'I'm following in the footsteps of giants like Novak, Usain, Rafael Nadal and Lionel Messi. 'The Laureus Awards represent something more than sporting achievement. The fact that they are voted on by the 69 world-class athletes elevates them to another level.' There was a popular winner of Team of the Year, as Real Madrid claimed the trophy at the 25th-anniversary ceremony at the Cibeles Palace, just a couple of miles down the road from the Bernabeu. Spain and Barcelona teen sensation Lamine Yamal received the gong for Breakthrough of the Year, which was won last year by England and Real star Jude Bellingham. There was a British winner in the Action Sportsperson of the Year category as Tom Pidcock picked up the prize following his incredible comeback victory in the Olympic mountain bike race last summer. 'There are lots of awards out there, but this one is pretty special,' said the Team GB gold medallist. 'After last year, it is an extra sense of recognition for what I achieved.' 'A sporting icon? I think that is for other people to decide,' said the 22-time Grand Slam champion. 'But I hope that my career has inspired sports fans beyond tennis. 'I gave it everything I had. My drive has always been to compete and try my best every time I stepped on court.' Comeback of the Year went to Brazilian gymnast Rebeca Andrade, who won Olympic floor gold having almost quit the sport following three ACL injuries. Female Chinese swimmer Jiang Yuyan, who won seven gold medals at the Paris Paralympics, was named Sportsperson of the Year with a Disability, while Kelly Slater, an 11-time world surfing champion, won the Lifetime Achievement award.
