Caregiver accused of attempting to rape elderly woman with dementia
TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested a male caregiver for allegedly attempting to sexually assault an elderly woman with dementia at a group home in Taito Ward, reports Kyodo News (June 29). Between May 10 and June 11, Takahiro Torii, 50, allegedly touched the body of the woman, aged in her 70s, in a private room of the facility's shared toilet and filmed the incident. Upon his arrest on suspicion of attempted non-consensual sexual intercourse and violation of the Act on the Punishment of Filming Sexual Activity, Torii denied the former charge but admitted to filming. 'I sexually harassed her to relieve stress,' he said. According to police, about 20 videos of the woman were found on the suspect's smartphone, suggesting that she was victimized multiple times. Torii has worked as a part-time employee at the group home for about since 2014. The investigation is ongoing.

METI staffer accused of attempted illicit filming of woman inside Tokyo Station convenience store
TOKYO (TR) – Today Metropolitan Police said on Wednesday that a staff member of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism has been accused attempting to take illicit footage up a woman's skirt inside JR Tokyo Station, reports NHK (Apr. 3). At around 9:00 a.m. on Monday, Yusuke Tanaka, a 41-year-old specialist in the Waterworks Division of the Water Management and Disaster Management Bureau, allegedly used a small camera to attempt to take tosatsu (voyeur) footage up the skirt of the woman, aged in her 20s, inside a convenience store in the station. Upon his arrest on suspicion of violating the Act on the Punishment of Filming Sexual Activity, Tanaka, who lives in Katsushika Ward, admitted to the charges. According to investigators, the incident occurred while the woman was waiting in line at a cash register. A male commuting standing nearby noticed the suspicious behavior of the suspect, apprehended him and handed him over to the Marunouchi Police Station. A METI official commented, 'It is truly regrettable that an employee was arrested. We would like to confirm the facts and take strict action.'
