Adair County: Driver more than triple the legal limit arrested
Jun. 4—Osvaldo Moran-Salas, 22, of Des Moines, was taken into custody 12:50 a.m. May 25, in Adair on the charge of driving while barred. According to an Adair Police report, at approximately 11:54 p.m May 24, Moran-Salas was observed driving a John Deere Gator UTV with no headlights or taillights on Delta Ave/Fifth Street. The UTV pulled into the Casey's General Store in Adair and Moran-Salas exited from the driver's position. His information was ran and he was found to have a barred license. Moran-Salas was transported to the Adair County Jail where he was released from after posting $2,000 cash or surety bond. — — — — — Tracey M. Fazio, 57, of Des Moines, was taken into custody 9:45 p.m. May 26, at the westbound rest area of Interstate 80 in Adair on the charge of OWI, first offense and issued a citation for open container. According to an Iowa State Patrol report, at approximately 6:45 p.m. a 2009 Pontiac G6 pulled into the the rest area and hit a semi-trailer. The Pontiac had been previously reported for erratic driving. When troopers arrived at the rest area, the Pontiac was still making contact with the semi, but neither had reportable damage. Contact was made with the driver of the Pontiac, identified as Fazio, who had slurred, thick-tongued speech and required assistance when walking to the patrol car. The odor of an alcoholic beverage was detected coming from the vehicle. Fazio handed troopers an open bottle of Southern Comfort that was approximately two-thirds empty. She admitted the bottle was full when she started drinking. Fazio consented to field sobriety testing during which clues of impairment were observed. She consented to a PBT, which indicated her BrAC to be .286%. Fazio was transported to the Adair County Jail where she consented to provide a breath sample for testing. The test indicated her BAC to be .272%. Fazio was released from the Adair County Jail after posting $1,000 cash or surety bond. — — — — — Jason E. Caldwell, 53, of Stuart, was taken into custody 10:56 p.m. May 27, in the 1700 block of Sheldon Avenue in Stuart on a Guthrie County warrant for the charge of failure to appear. He was released directly to the custody of Guthrie County Sheriff's Office. — — — — — Silas J. Foster, 18, of Fontanelle, was taken into custody 3:23 a.m. May 30, at East Iowa and Northeast Fourth Street in Greenfield on the charges of OWI, first offense and possession of alcohol under age 21. According to an Adair County report, at approximately 2:39 a.m. a 2005 Buick LeSabre was observed in a parking lot of the northwest corner of the intersection with its lights on and the driver's side door open. Deputies did not believe it was occupied initially from a distance. After approaching the vehicle, a male was observed lying in the driver's seat. The keys of the car were still in the ignition and an open bottle of alcohol was observed in the front passenger's seat. The male, later identified as Foster by an ID found in a wallet in the door of the vehicle, appeared to have vomited on himself. He initially resisted instruction to exit the vehicle, but finally did and was sat on the ground near the back of his car. Foster was dry-heaving, very unsteady on his feet and unable to answer questions in a manner that made sense, including being able to say where he was. EMS was called to assist. A probable cause search was conducted of the vehicle. Open alcohol containers and a used vape cartridge were located, which Foster is not of age to possess After being checked by medics, Foster consented to field sobriety testing and showed indicators of impairment. He refused a PBT. Foster was transported to the Adair County Jail for further testing. He consented to provide a breath sample for chemical testing, the result of which indicated his BAC to be .143%. Foster was cited and released on a summons to appear.

Adair County: Casey's employee stealing cash from register
May 14—Samantha A. Wright, 39, of Des Moines, was taken into custody 11:32 p.m. May 4, at Eighth and Blackhills streets in Stuart on the charge of driving while barred. According to an Adair County report, at approximately 11:12 p.m. a 1999 Buick LeSabre was stopped for having a non-functioning center brake light in the back window. Contact was made with the driver, identified as Wright, who was found to have a barred license as a habitual offender. Wright did have a temporary restricted license allowing her to drive to and from her place of employment, but Wright said she was picking up her boyfriend from work in Stuart. Wright was cited and released at the scene on a summons to appear. — — — — — Kyle L. Wilson, 30, of Griswold, was taken into custody 9:27 p.m. May 5, at the Adair County Sheriff's Office on an Adair County warrant for the charge of failure to appear on the original charge of violation of probation. According to an Adair County District Court document, Wilson was ordered to appear April 25 for a hearing on the original charge and did not. Wilson was transported to the Adair County Jail where he was ordered to serve 14 days in jail. — — — — — Lindsay L. Hommes, 41, of Adair, turned herself in at 1 p.m. May 9, to the Adair County Jail in Greenfield on an Adair County warrant for the charge of theft, fourth degree. According to an Adair Police report, on April 29, Casey's General Store in Adair reported a theft by an employee, identified as Hommes. A Casey's manager provided officers with security footage from April 3 which showed Hommes taking money out of the register and putting it in her pocket on three occasions. At approximately 7:27 p.m. Homes took 14 $20 bills out the register after helping a customer and is seen rolling up the money and walking away. At 8:22 p.m. Homes took a $100 dollar bill out of the register after she had closed and reopened it. At 10:06 p.m. Hommes is shown taking what appeared to be two $20 bills out of the register and putting them in her pocket. Hommes was transported to the Adair County Jail where she was released fro, on her own recognizance by the courts at her initial appearance.

Adair County: Convicted felon is charged with possession of drugs, gun
Apr. 30—Melissa M. Vazques, 29, of Council Bluffs, was taken into custody 8:46 a.m. April 20, in Adair on an Adair County warrant for the charge of contempt — violation of no contact/protective order. According to an Adair Police report, Vazques sent text messages to the other party in a no contact order that were not directly related to any of the exceptions for contact that the order allows. Vazquez was transported to the Adair County Jail where she was released from on her own recognizance on a promise to appear and then to the custody of Polk County for pending charges there. — — — — — Sherrece P. Kilgore, 40, of Bridgewater, was taken into custody 10:30 a.m. April 21, in Dallas County on an Adair County warrant for the charge of violation of probation. According to an Iowa Department of Correctional Services report, Kilgore was convicted of possession of a controlled substance, third or subsequent offense, sentenced March 7, 2022, and granted a deferred judgement with three years probation. Kilgore violated the terms of her probation on Feb. 19 when she was charged in Cass County with two counts of possession of a controlled substance, third or subsequent offense, driving while suspended and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was also charged April 20 by Waukee Police Department for providing false identification information. Kilgore was directed by her probation officer to enroll in a payment plan, provide proof of enrollment and to make consistent payments on court ordered financial obligations. Kilgore failed to provide proof of enrollment and her payments were sporadic throughout probation, with the last payment being made in January. Kilgore was transported to the Adair County Jail where she was released from after pleading guilty and serving her seven day sentence. — — — — — Shaun M. Cleary, 45, of Yorkville, Illinois, was taken into custody 8:41 p.m. April 21, at mile marker 76 of Interstate 80, on the charges of dominion or control of a firearm or offensive weapon by a felon and possession of a controlled substance — marijuana, first offense. According to an Iowa State Patrol report, at approximately 6:31 p.m. a 2021 Honda Accord was stopped for illegal window tint. Contact was made with the driver, identified as Cleary and two passengers, including Cleary's wife. Troopers detected the odor of marijuana coming from inside the Honda. When asked about the odor, Cleary admitted to having marijuana in the car and said it was for personal use. Cleary also stated there was a firearm in the car, which belonged to his wife who legally could possess a firearm. Cleary is a convicted felon and prohibited from possessing a firearm. A probable cause search of the Honda was conducted. A large quantity of marijuana and products containing marijuana were found throughout the vehicle. In the trunk of the Honda, a Springfield Armory 9mm handgun was found in a backpack containing Cleary's personal property. Cleary later admitted he and his wife share the backpack, and he had prior knowledge of the handgun being in the backpack. Clearly was transported to the Adair County Jail where he was released from after posting $5,000 cash or surety bond.

Adair County: Adair man violates no contact and trespass orders
Apr. 16—Tyler L. Carter, 33, of Adair, was taken into custody 3:40 p.m. April 7 on the charges of trespass, disorderly conduct and contempt — violation of contact/protective order. According to an Adair Police report at approximately 9:45 a.m. officers observed Carter outside of an Adair residence attempting to engage in a conversation with a female as she walked into the residence. The female is listed as the protected party in a no-contact order against Carter. Carter was notified in December 2024 he was not allowed on the property of Rolling Hills Bank & Trust in Adair. On April 7 Cater entered the bank lobby and was loud and acting belligerent to employees when he was asked to leave several times. Carter was transported to the Adair County Jail where he was released from after posting $500 cash only and $300 cash or surety bonds. — — — — — Miranda M. Nichols, 26, of Allison, was taken into custody 9:02 p.m. April 11, at mile marker 87 of Interstate 80 on the charge of driving while barred. According to an Iowa State Patrol report, at approximately 7:37 p.m. troopers were advised of a request for assistance from a female motorist with a flat tire on a 2010 Ford Escape. A trooper located the Ford and confirmed the tire to be flat as well as the spare tire. Dispatch advised the registered owner had a barred license. The female, identified as Nichols, was confirmed to be the registered owner. She told the trooper she knew she didn't have a license but believed she was only suspended. Nichols had her 6-year-old daughter in the vehicle. The child was transported by law enforcement to Stuart and released to family friends. Nichols was transported to the Adair County Jail where she was released from after posting $2,000 cash or surety bond. — — — — — Annie J. Massure, 44, of Earlham, was taken into custody 3:05 a.m. April 12, at 120th Street and Adair-Madison Avenue on the charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. According to an Adair County report, at approximately 2:39 a.m. a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan with a non-functioning center brake light was observed southbound on Adair-Madison Avenue. A traffic stop was conducted and contact was made with the driver, identified as Massure. Deputies observed what appeared to be a marijuana grinder in plain-view on the front passenger seat. When asked about the item, Massure admitted it was a grinder and handed it to deputies. Massure said nothing else illegal was in the vehicle. A probable-casue search of the vehicle was conducted. Located underneath a grocery sack, deputies located a baggie containing what appeared to be marijuana and a glass pipe containing marijuana residue. Massure told deputies she didn't think the items were still in the vehicle and admitted her husband had previously made the pipe. Massure was cited and released at the scene on a summons to appear.

Adair County: Cash and gun taken from an Adair home after Greenfield man was told to leave
Apr. 8—Devin K. Rains, 21, of Corning, was taken into custody 2:30 p.m., March 30, at Elk and 250th Street in Fontanelle on the charge of OWI, first offense. According to an Adair County report, at approximately 1:24 p.m. a truck was reported in the ditch near the Adair Wildlife Management area on 250th Street. Deputies located the 2000 Chevrolet S10 in the north ditch and made contact with the driver, identified as Rains. While speaking with Rains, the odor of an alcoholic beverage was detected. Rains also had bloodshot, watery eyes and restricted pupils. Rains initially said he had not consumed any alcohol and he had been crying because he wrecked his stepfather's truck. Rains consented to field sobriety testing and showed clues of impairment. During the testing, Rains did admit to having one 24-ounce beer. A PBT showed his BrAC to be above .08%. Rains was transported to the Adair County Jail where he consented to provide a breath specimen for chemical testing, the result of which indicated his BAC to be .117%. Rains was cited and released on a promise to appear. — — — — — Wesley A. Gregg, 42, of Greenfield, was taken into custody 10:22 p.m. March 31, in Creston on an Adair County warrant for the charge of contempt — violation of no contact order. According to a Greenfield Police report, at approximately 10:17 a.m. March 19, Gregg sent a message to a family member of a protected party in a no contact order against him. The message questioned if the protected party would talk to him. The family member of the protected party stated they believe the intent of the message was to have them reach out to the protected party of Gregg's behalf, which is a violation of the order due to third-party contact. Gregg was transported to the Adair County Jail and held on $300 cash-only bond. While in custody at the Adair County Jail, Gregg was served April 1 on an Adair County warrant for the charges of dominion or control of a firearm or offensive weapon by a felon, dominion or control of a firearm or offensive weapon by a domestic abuse offender and theft, fourth degree. An additional charge of theft, fifth degree was added in the case. According to an Adair Police report, at approximately 2:30 p.m. March 29, a resident in the 600 block of Cass Street in Adair reported Gregg had taken a firearm and $80 cash without her knowledge or permission. The victim stated Gregg had been staying with her but was told to leave after she found drug paraphernalia in the residence belonging to Gregg. Prior to leaving, Gregg took a 9 mm handgun from the victims bedside table and cash out of her purse. The victim did not know this had occurred until Gregg was gone. Gregg is a convicted felon and has an active no contact/protective orders against him due to a domestic assault conviction. Gregg was held on an additional $10,000 cash-only bond in this case. While in custody in the Adair County Jail, Gregg was served April 2 on an Adair County warrant for the charge of violation of probation. According to an Iowa Department of Correctional Services report, on Jan. 3 Gregg was convicted of domestic abuse assault — impeding air or blood flow causing bodily injury and sentenced to five years in prison. The sentence was suspended with two years probation. Gregg was ordered to complete a domestic abuse program and have a substance abuse and mental health evaluation completed as conditions of his probation. As of April 1 Gregg had not enrolled in a program or provided proof of completion of the required evaluations. Gregg was scheduled for a probation meeting March 5 but called and requested to reschedule. He was rescheduled for March 10 and rescheduled a second time at his request for March 18 but claimed he was unable to find a ride to the appointments each time. Gregg also had new charges filed against him in Adair County. An additional $5,000 cash or surety bond was placed on this charge. In total, Gregg is being held in the Adair County Jail on $10,300 cash-only bonds and $5,000 cash or surety bond. — — — — — Joshua L. Kinzie, 45, of Creston, was taken into custody 12:50 a.m. April 4, in the 1700 block of 310th Street in Orient on the charge of OWI, first offense. According to an Adair County report, at approximately 11:07 p.m. April 3 Adair County dispatch received an automated alert of an accident involving a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado. Deputies located the accident and made contact with the driver, identified as Kinzie, at the scene. The odor of an alcoholic beverage was immediately detected coming from Kenzie's person and his eyes were observed to be bloodshot. Kinzie told deputies he a long day and had just left the bar when he believes he nodded off while driving, causing him to drift into the wrong lane of traffic. He admitted to having a few drinks while at the bar. After Kinzie was checked and cleared by medics, he consented to field sobriety testing which showed clues of impairment. Kinzie consented to a PBT, which showed his BrAC to be above .08%. Kinzie was transported to the Adair County Jail where he consented to provide a breath specimen for chemical testing. The test result indicated his BAC to be .115%. Kinzie was cited and released from the jail on a summons to appear. He was additionally cited for failure to maintain or use a safety belt and driving on the wrong side of a two-way highway.
