Game on: Youth and Sports Ministry launches RM1.5m esports fund, applications open until July 31

KUALA LUMPUR, June 4 — The Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS), through Esports Integrated (ESI), an initiative under Impact Integrated, has opened online applications for the KBS Esports Fund (DEK) 2025 from today until July 31. In a statement today, KBS announced that the results of the applications will be revealed on August 28, with successful applicants required to implement their selected programmes between September and November 2025. This marks the third year of DEK's implementation, with an allocation of RM1.5 million, an increase of RM500,000 compared to 2024, KBS said. 'The provision of DEK is part of KBS's ongoing efforts to support the growth of the rapidly expanding esports sector each year. 'Since its introduction in 2023, DEK has supported over 80 grassroots esports initiatives nationwide, encompassing tournament organisation, talent development, digital content creation and community activities,' the statement read. DEK provides opportunities for more organisations, community clubs, content creators and local organisers to contribute to Malaysia's progressive esports landscape, in line with the core values of creativity and confidence under the Malaysia Madani concept. Meanwhile, Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Adam Adli Abdul Halim, in the same statement, said the fund is not merely a financial assistance scheme but a symbol of KBS's trust and commitment to the immense potential of esports. 'DEK aligns with our aspiration to make sports, including esports, accessible to all through a whole-of-nation approach. With DEK, we aim to ensure that industry players can fully capitalise on this opportunity to drive a more progressive, inclusive and competitive national esports ecosystem,' he said. To assist applicants in preparing high-quality programme proposals and understanding the evaluation process, KBS, through ESI, will organise DEK engagement sessions open to all industry stakeholders, including educational institutions, youth and sports organisations and community groups. The locations and dates of the engagement sessions will be announced soon. Applicants can visit or email [email protected] for more information about DEK 2025. — Bernama

Adam Adli reminds AMK Congress delegates to highlight motions that benefit party, govt

JOHOR BARU: Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) chief Adam Adli Abdul Halim has reminded the 2024/2025 AMK National Congress delegates to highlight motions that will contribute to the formation of party and government policies during the debate session. He said the motions presented should be based on real issues and should not be limited solely to the internal scope of the party. Adam Adli said this at a press conference after delivering his keynote address at the congress, which is themed "Membangun Madani, Menuju Reformasi", here today. On concerns about potential internal division within the PKR following the new leadership election, Adam Adli, who is also the deputy youth and sports minister, said that based on previous election experience, he is confident that such a situation will not occur. "What is most important is how, after the contest, we close ranks. "The PKR elections are open and that's why they are often seen as heated, but I can give an assurance that everyone who is contesting is extremely loyal to the party's struggles," he said. The three-day 2024/2025 PKR National Congress began yesterday with the simultaneous opening of the AMK and Wanita wings, to be followed by a keynote speech and the official opening of the congress by party president and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim tonight. The congress also features the party's leadership election for the 2025-2028 term, covering the Central Leadership Council (MPP), Central AMK Leadership Council, and Central Women's Leadership Council, which is held from 8am to 5pm. A total of 251 candidates are contesting in the election, comprising 104 nominations for the MPP, 85 candidates for the AMK Leadership Council and 62 for the Women's Leadership Council. – Bernama

Adam Adli unfazed by Rafizi's absence from AMK Congress

JOHOR BARU: PKR Youth chief Adam Adli Abdul Halim said he was unperturbed by the absence of certain invited guests at the Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) National Congress 2025, adding that there were "no hard feelings" over the matter. He was equally clear that the absence of PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli from the Congress opening ceremony was not a cause for concern, and was quick to dismiss any suggestion of divisions within the party. Adam Adli said invitations were extended broadly, including to Barisan Nasional (BN) and other component parties. "BN did not attend, but Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) was present. We invited everyone. "Rafizi was also invited. We were informed in advance that he would be unable to attend, so the ceremony proceeded with the secretary-general. There are no hard feelings whatsoever," he said. He made these remarks at a press conference following his keynote address at the AMK National Congress 2025 here today. The congress was attended by more than 2,000 delegates representing 206 branches, with AMK Deputy Chief Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim also present. When questioned about the possibility of internal divisions or splits within the party following the recent PKR elections, Adam Adli, who is also a deputy youth and sports minister, expressed confidence that this would not happen, drawing on lessons from past party elections. "Disunity only becomes an issue if there's no reconciliation effort after the elections. I've experienced the election period. It can get tense and intense. What's most important is how we come back together afterwards. "PKR elections are open, and that's why they appear heated. But I can assure you that everyone contesting is highly loyal to the party's cause. In fact, they're competing over who is more loyal," he said. In his keynote address, urged PKR members to cultivate a strong sense of 'assabiyah' (collective solidarity) to reinforce the party's internal political strength.
