Wests Tigers player linked with switch to rival club as details of medical emerge

The Wests Tigers have reportedly made Adam Doueihi an improved offer to stay at the club but the fan favourite could be on the move at the end of the season, with two rival NRL clubs linked with his signature. One of those clubs is reportedly the Dragons, where he underwent a medical at the end of last season, despite no deal being forthcoming. The other club said to be showing interest in the versatile ball-player is four-time defending premiers Penrith, who could view Doueihi as an ideal replacement for Luke Garner, who it's understood has been granted permission to seek opportunities elsewhere. Doueihi has performed in a number of roles for Benji Marshall's side, ranging from centre to the halves and even at lock, where he starred in Sunday's thrilling one-point win over the Titans. Doueihi kicked the last-minute field goal for the Tigers that snatched a 21-20 victory over Gold Coast in front of a packed crowd at Leichhardt Oval. The 26-year-old's current contract expires at the end of the season and his signing with powerful player agent Isaac Moses has led to renewed speculation he could leave for an NRL rival in 2026. Nine league reporter Michael Chammas confirmed there is interest in Doueihi from at least one rival club but says Tigers officials met with the player recently and are keen to hang onto him. "There's definitely a chance (he could stay at the Tigers)," Chammas told Nine's 100% Footy on Monday night. "The Tigers have met with Adam Doueihi. They want to keep him. The original offer, I believe, was around $350,000. My understanding is that they have upped that in recent days to maybe around $400,000. But the Dragons are circling." RELATED: Broncos' cap squeeze could claim another star as 'formal' offers touted Tigers player escapes charge over tackle that left superstar injured Craig Bellamy flags further absence for Storm star Cameron Munster Dragons renew their interest in signing Adam Doueihi Shane Flanagan's Dragons are set to lose experienced forward Jack de Belin to Parramatta next year and their halves issues have been well publicised in 2025, meaning Doueihi's signing would make a lot of sense. The 26-year-old underwent a medical with the Dragons at the end of last season after returning from the third knee reconstruction of his career, but a move never eventuated. However, Chammas says the Dragons are again looking at bringing Doueihi to the club next season after being impressed by his versatility with the Tigers. "It gives them a ball-playing lock option, utility, can kick goals, we know he can play in the halves, in the centres," Chammas said. "So, the Dragons are having discussions with his management about bringing him to the club next year." The Panthers have also been linked with a move for Doueihi, following reports they have granted permission for two-time premiership winner Garner to leave one year early if he can find a new club for 2026. Doueihi would be a logical replacement for the versatile Garner, but also give them another option in the halves to play alongside champion No.7 Nathan Cleary. "I'm hearing Adam Doueihi is in talks with Penrith Panthers in a deal starting as early as next year," The Triple M Whisper said in a segment on Triple M Breakfast with Beau, Tarsh & Woodsy. It comes after Doueihi only offered a cryptic response when asked about his future last week. "Ask the big boss, Richo," Doueihi said in reference to Wests Tigers CEO Shane Richardson. "We'll see what happens."

‘Today was our worst game': Benji's shock call after thriller

Tigers coach Benji Marshall labelled his side's performance against the Titans as their 'worst game' of the season despite being on the right end of a 21-20 scoreline. The Tigers won their seventh game of the season to eclipse last year's measly six-win total when utility Adam Doueihi slotted a field goal with ten seconds on the clock. Limited-time offer > It was a gritty win given the Tigers trailed by four points inside the final five minutes before a Jeral Skelton try and Doueihi's field goal lifted them over the last-placed Titans. A relieved Marshall wasn't too impressed when he faced the media post-game. 'If I'm being honest, I thought today was our worst game. I don't think we played anywhere near our standard,' Marshall said. 'In the first half we were looking for things that weren't there and to me it looked like our heads weren't on the job. 'We addressed some things at half time and in the second half we completed well and gave ourselves a chance at least. 'To get the two points it helps, but we have a lot to improve on.' The win likely assures the Tigers won't be collecting a wooden spoon for a third straight season. At the end of Round 20, they sit four points clear of the Titans and four points outside of the eight. Marshall was asked if he considered the Tigers already improving on last year's win total with six games in hand was a 'milestone'. 'I haven't even thought about that to be honest,' Marshall said. 'It's more frustrations around where we think we could have been or where we could be or where we are but it was important to win today. 'Don't want to say about how we got it but I'm glad we got it.'

Field (goal) of dreams as Doueihi proves a late hero

Adam Doueihi has kicked Wests Tigers out of the race for a fourth straight NRL wooden spoon, nailing a 30-metre field goal to clinch a 21-20 win over Gold Coast. Trailing the Titans by four points with four minutes left, the Tigers looked at risk of slipping back into the wooden-spoon race on Sunday afternoon at Leichhardt. But Taylan May sent Jeral Skelton over for a crucial try, before Doueihi missed the conversion attempt from the sideline to take the lead. It mattered little though, as a Reagan Campbell-Gillard crusher tackle put the Tigers back on the attack. And while the joint-venture made a mess of the final two plays, Doueihi was able to position himself 30 metres out and right in front to nail the last-minute shot. Making matters worse for Gold Coast was a knee injury suffered by Tino Fa'asuamaleaui early in the match, leaving him unable to return. The result piles more pressure on Titans coach Des Hasler, with Gold Coast now officially out of finals contention and alone in 17th place on the NRL ladder. Doueihi kicks the match-winner! 🤩 — NRL (@NRL) July 20, 2025 For the Tigers, the finals also look unlikely. They would need to go undefeated though the final seven rounds to have any hope of snapping a 14-year drought. But a fourth straight wooden spoon now at least appears equally unlikely. Sunday's win kicked the joint-venture into 12th spot and four points clear of the Titans, with a bye still in hand. This match was anything but pretty, with the Tigers' attack at times appearing disjointed and the two sides combining for no less than 26 errors. But there was a bright spot for the Tigers, with Taylan May scoring one try in his first NRL game in 14 months and setting up the other two. Playing his first match since domestic-violence charges against him were dropped, May had the Tigers' first when his brother Terrell gave him space on the left. He then put the Tigers up 12-4 when he combined with Jarome Luai to send Staines across, before the Titans mounted a late first-half comeback. Phil Sami and Jaylan De Groot both crossed in quick succession, with the second coming off the back of a nice kick from Jayden Campbell. As good as the Titans were in that period, they were at times their own worst enemies. Nowhere was that more evident than in the second half with scores locked at 14-14, when they failed to pack a scrum in time and gifted the Tigers a penalty goal. An AJ Brimson try with 13 minutes to play looked set to save Gold Coast, and bring them level with five other clubs on 16 points at the bottom of the ladder. But instead the Tigers' late heroics left the Gold Coast alone in 17th, two points behind the likes of Parramatta and South Sydney with seven rounds left.

‘Difficult to take': Tigers CEO slams ‘crap' reports, praises Benji for taking on ‘unenviable task'

Wests Tigers CEO Shane Richardson believes the team's upset win over the Roosters was a 'statement' by the players in response to 'crap' reports about their coach Benji Marshall. Richardson also admitted that the exit of Lachlan Galvin 'hurt' both him and Marshall, and he explained the reasons behind letting young gun Tallyn Da Silva leave early. The Tigers ended a six-game losing streak on Sunday without three of their most important players in Jarome Luai, Api Koroisau and Jahream Bula. The 30-28 win came after another week of headlines surrounding the Tigers, including a story that alleged Adam Doueihi got into a fiery exchange with Marshall at training. There were also claims that Richardson wanted to bring in former Dragons coach Paul McGregor as an assistant, but Marshall didn't allow it. Marshall hit back at the reports in his post-game press conference and on Monday night Richardson backed his coach up while appearing on NRL 360. 'I just think the players stood up and said to the world that this crap about Benji is crap. You don't play like that with all the players we had out yesterday without having a real commitment to the coach,' he said. 'The articles written earlier in the week, I understand journalism, clickbait and all the rest of it but agenda-driven journalism is not true. 'The lies that were written in that article were very difficult for Benji to take. 'The players particularly knew it wasn't true, Adam Doueihi knew it wasn't true. I've never even met Paul McGregor so how I was even going to get him as a coach I don't know. 'At the end of the day, it was a statement by the players and how they feel about Benji.' The Tigers have claimed three-straight wooden spoons — two of which have been under Marshall — but Richardson believes the 2005 premiership-winner is trading in the right direction. He also praised Marshall for showing the courage to take on the 'unenviable task' of turning the Tigers around. 'Everybody in the press was bagging the Tigers for the last three or four years (saying) 'how terrible they were' and 'they weren't getting any better',' Richardson said. 'He's taken on the job that not many people would've ever taken on. He's taken it on without coaching before and he took it on because in a lot of ways they gave him the blaze of it because he tried to give them some face in the marketplace. 'Then all of a sudden the Tim Sheens stuff happened and he inherited the side. He inherited a tough roster, which I believe there was only 22 of the 36 players could play NRL. So he had no depth work with, we ran last in reserve grade. 'He's taken on that challenge and worked forward. This year we've gone in with the changes we can make and he's got better and better. 'He will be the first to say he was stunned when he went in there but he learns every day. You can't learn if you don't want to learn, you can't learn if you're not intelligent. 'He's intelligent and he's there for one reason and one reason only. I can assure it's not about the money, it's about the want to make Wests Tigers successful again. 'He's taken on an unenviable task and I think he's done a great job.' The Tigers' roster management has been criticised of late following the exits of Galvin and most recently Tallyn Da Silva. Galvin was a week-in, week-out starter but wanted out of the Tigers and made the move to the Bulldogs around a month ago. Da Silva hasn't been able to nail down his role in the 17 and agitated once the club indicated they were going to re-sign co-captain and star hooker Api Koroisau. That's why Richardson said their situations were 'very different.' 'Lachie just didn't want to be there,' he explained. 'He told us up front that he didn't want to be there and didn't want to be involved with Benji as a coach and he wanted to move on. 'He had to make a decision and then we had to make a decision after that. 'It hurt Benji and it hurt me too because I never want to lose a junior and I watched the tapes before I went there and I could see what a player he was and that we could build the club around him. 'And we did, we named him straight away at five-eighth in the first grade side — no one had ever heard of him. 'He's got a way of looking at things... I hope he's successful and I think he will be successful, he's a good player. We had to make a call on what was best for the club and the squad... we had to move on. 'The other one was different. It was a young kid who had made it clear to us that he wanted to be there. I went and saw his parents two weeks before this happened and they said 'if Api signs we want him to be able to move on'.' Richardson then explained that when he approached the Knights about getting Kai Pearce-Paul to the club early they suggested a player swap involving Tallyn Da Silva for the rest of this year. However the Knights then decided they wanted to sign Da Silva longer-term, so the Tigers decided to let him go to market immediately. The Eels ended up winning the race for Da Silva though and the 20-year-old made a mid-season move. Koroisau is yet to put pen to paper on the new deal that will lock him in beyond 2026, however Richardson revealed the club 'accelerated the process' a fortnight ago and it's close to being signed. 'We've chosen his loyalty and leadership,' he said when explaining why the Tigers are investing in the 32-year-old. 'We don't have a lot of senior leadership and we felt that going forward that Api has done the right thing for the club. And more importantly he's still an outstanding player.'

Tigers stun Roosters for best win of Benji Marshall era

Wests Tigers have bitten back at their critics with the most significant win of the Benji Marshall era yet - a frantic 30-28 upset defeat of the Sydney Roosters that breathes life into their season. Under fire from all quarters this week amid the exit of gun junior Tallyn Da Silva and a six-game losing streak, the Tigers overcame the absences of Jarome Luai, Api Koroisau and Jahream Bula and rode a stunning 20-0 lead to one of the year's biggest boilovers. Latu Fainu had a career-best game to prove he's ready to replace Lachie Galvin in the halves, while new second-choice hooker Tristan Hope impressed in only his second NRL game by putting Sione Fainu over. In his first appearance against the Roosters since being inexplicably cut, Tigers prop Terrell May was immense at Allianz Stadium with a team-high 199 run metres. An admittedly undermanned Roosters side threatened to break the Tigers' hearts when James Tedesco burrowed over on the left side in the final 20 seconds, helping the Tricolours close to only two points behind. But with seven seconds left, the Roosters were stifled by the Tigers' defence and the visitors held on, Adam Doueihi having landed his third penalty goal minutes before. The Tigers' first defeat of the Roosters since 2018 puts the joint venture two wins out of the top eight to finish the weekend and vindicates Marshall's claims of improvement - albeit not always in results - during his second year as coach. Marshall had been adamant the Tigers were better than their recent form slump suggested and would have been buoyed when Starford To'a offloaded to Charlie Staines down the short-side for first points. Caught napping by that try, the Roosters were asleep at the wheel again when Savala spilt the ball cold on the 50-metre line, allowing Latu Fainu to regather and sprint to the line. Hope's flat ball to bench forward Sione Fainu made it a 20-point game and gave Tigers fans another glimpse into the bright future promised by the trio of brothers brought over from Manly. A rampaging Samuela Fainu! 🔥 — NRL (@NRL) July 6, 2025 The Tigers' defensive resolve was just as promising, with the visitors holding their hosts up over the tryline three separate times in the first half and withstanding 14 more red zone tackles than they enjoyed with the ball. Marshall's side would've been nervous when Mark Nawaqanitawase bulldozed through four defenders for his second try, which cut the lead to only six with four minutes to play. Tedesco's four-pointer pulled the Roosters closer than they'd been since Staines' opener, but time ran out to avoid an all-time Tigers upset.
