Celtic transfer news as Adam Obert price tag 'set' after Cagliari snub and Matt O'Riley gets a new suitor
Fans are desperate to see the champions splash the cash in the final month of the summer window Cagliari have told Celtic just how much they will have to pay to land reported transfer target Adam Obert. The Slovakian international centre-back has been touted as a potential option for the Hoops, with Brendan Rodgers keen to add cover to his back line. It has been claimed that the Hoops saw an approach knocked back by the Serie A club for the 22-year-old because their offer was insufficient to Cagliari's valuation of the player. And now a fresh report from Italy has revealed the alleged figures involved in the rejected offer, stating that Celtic's bid of £3million fell short of the Sardinian side's £6million asking price. Obert's services are said to be in demand in the final month of the summer window, with Belgian outfit Royal Antwerp also said to be keen on the left-sided defender. The youngster is still under contract with Cagliari until 2029. Meanwhile, former Celtic hero Matt O'Riley reportedly has a new suitor. The Brighton playmaker only swapped Parkhead for the Premier League with the Seagulls in a £25million deal last year but injuries and lack of trust from boss Fabian Hurzeler restricted him to just 23 appearances in all competitions. The Denmark international has already been linked with Serie A trio Atalanta, Roma and Juventus with Brighton said to be willing to listen to offers for the 24-year-old. And leading French outlet L'Equipe now claim that O'Riley is wanted by Ligue 1 giants Marseille. The Stade Velodrome side are now managed by Italian coach Roberto De Zerbi, who previously managed O'Riley's current club Brighton. The Scottish Premiership champions have just completed the signing of Manchester City defender Jahmai Simpson-Pusey on loan but Brendan Rodgers will still be keen to add to his squad. But reports in Italy are claiming the Hoops are interested in another defender, one with international experience too. Adam Obert played 23 times for Cagliari last season across all competitions and has picked up 23 caps for the Slovakia national team since making his debut in 2022. The 22-year-old has a contract with the Islanders until 2029, having only signed an extension back in January. According to L'Unione Sarda, Celtic are keen on the player but the two clubs have been unable to agree on a fee. They report that the Hoops would need to increase their offer in order for them to consider a sale. The exact figure being debated is unknown but Obert is valued at £2.6million (3million euros). Obert is a left-sided centre-back who can also operate at left-back. Celtic may see him as an upgrade on Liam Scales, who has been similarly used in both positions. New signing Simpson-Pusey is right-sided and has primarily been used in the centre of defence whilst coming through at City.
