BEREA, Ohio (WKBN) – Maplewood softball lost to Cuyahoga Heights, 5-2, in the Division VII District Championship game in Berea, Friday night. Watch above for extended highlights! Maplewood's freshman pitcher Addison Marker struck out 13 batters and gave up five runs in seven innings. Marker also drove in one run in the loss. The Rockets' Aleesia Woomer drove in Maplewood's other run and posted one hit in the loss. Cuyahoga Heights pitcher Skylar Sane earned the win with four strikeouts and gave up six hits and two runs in the win. Maplewood ends the season with an overall record of 21-5. CORTLAND, Ohio (WKBN) – Addison Marker shined in Maplewood's 4-0 win over Rittman in the Northeast 3 Division 7 district semifinal matchup. Marker threw a complete game, 4-hit shutout while striking out 13 and allowing just 2 walks. Marker also made her presence known at the dish as she homered and tripled to drive in all 4 of the Rockets' runs. Lauran Krieg singled twice for Maplewood. SOUTHINGTON, Ohio (WKBN) – Maplewood softball downed Southington 3-2 with a dominant performance by Rockets' pitcher Addison Marker. Watch above for extended highlights and an interview with Maplewood's head coach. Marker struck out 10 batters and gave up six hits in seven innings pitched. She also drove in one run in the win. Maplewood's Ava Calvert hit a single, which drove in one run for the go-ahead score in the fourth inning. Southington's Tatum Hudak pitched seven innings with seven strikeouts and allowed four hits. She also drove in two runs off a double and had two total hits. Maplewood advances to (17-4) on the season. Southington falls to (11-4). 'It was a great game of softball, we went down early. I kind of got a little nervous, but we do like to battle back, I'm learning the hard way, but we definitely came to play today,' said Maplewood head softball coach Jessica Urchek. 'We came to hit the ball, we were confident at the plate, we played great defense.' The Rockets are the No. 2 seed in the OHSAA Softball Tournament against St. Thomas Aquinas in the Sectional Final in Division VII – Northeast 3 Sectional on Wednesday, May 14.
