Assam to tighten Aadhaar rules to curb illegal immigrants: CM Sarma
Guwahati: To bar illegal immigrants from acquiring Aadhaar cards, the BJP led government in Assam is planning to make the rules for issuing Adhar cards and birth and death registration stricter. Aadhaar cards to adults (above 18 years) will now be issued by Deputy Commissioner only. Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma while talking in Guwahati, 'Very soon, we will implement a decision where Aadhar cards to adult citizens will be issued only by DCs. This will ensure that no illegal immigrant can get an Aadhar made, and we can track and push them back easily.' He added, 'Last night we pushed back 20 more Bangladeshis as part of our ongoing efforts to detect and push back illegal infiltrators. The decision to toughen Aadhaar issuance rules will only aid our efforts in this direction'. Sarma said that the government is contemplating to make the rules regarding issuance of Aadhar card stricter to ensure that only genuine citizens can acquire the vital document, categorized as national identity card. 'We have discussed the issue of making the rules for Aadhaar card stricter in today's cabinet. We are going to discuss it further in the next cabinet.' 'In Assam, we are going to stop issuing Aadhaar cards for the adults (Those above 18 years) now. It has been two years, and we have given Aadhaar cards to the adults already. Now the government will continue issuing Aadhaar cards to the newborns and children only. In case of adults who are yet to get an Aadhaar card, he or she must approach the District Commissioner, who will have the authority to issue the Adhar card to the adult population,' Sarma said. Live Events 'Considering the issue of illegal foreigners in the state, we have decided to make the rules for Aadhaar cards stricter. As we are going to stop issuing Aadhaar cards to adults, no foreigners who enter the state afresh, would not be able to get an Aadhaar card,' he said. 'Similarly, we are also going to make the rules for birth and death registration stricter. Earlier, people used to get a birth certificate, years after his birth also. We are going to make the rules stricter so that birth certificates are issued to genuine cases only. Here also the District Commissioners will be empowered to take a decision in terms of exceptional cases,' he added. Last year Assam government has observed that at least four districts of Assam having Aadhaar enrolment more than the population. Sarma had said in at least four districts, the number of Aadhaar cardholders has surpassed the population. "In Barpeta, 103.74% of the population have Aadhaar cards, in Dhubri 103.48%, in Morigaon 101.76%, and in Nagaon about 100.86% have obtained Aadhaar cards. This raises concerns, as it suggests that suspected foreign nationals may have managed to procure the cards."

Cherishing moments with mum, dad
In conjunction with Parents' Day on July 27, theSun invited Malaysians to reflect and celebrate the people who have shaped their lives. From May 19 to June 1, the Parents' Day Special: theSun Then & Now Photo Contest ran across social media platforms, calling on participants to recreate old photographs with their parents, paired with a heartfelt caption and the results were nothing short of moving. With 179 submissions, the contest stood out as a celebration of family bonds, far beyond the usual social media trend. It evolved into a tribute to the passage of time and the enduring bonds between parents and children. Some recreated faded photos, while others dug up casual moments at home, reimagined decades later. The stories behind each photo added layers of warmth, some funny, some tearful but they all brought back genuine moments of parental love. To qualify, participants had to follow theSun's official Facebook or Instagram (@thesundaily), post a side-by-side photo or carousel of their recreated moment with one or both parents, tag @thesundaily and two friends and use the hashtag #theSunParentsDay2025. The mechanics were clear-cut. What truly made each entry beautiful was the emotional weight behind the visuals. Fond memories, grand prizes Standing out among the submissions were entries that went above and beyond to mimic the past from expressions and outfits, down to the tiniest of props. Grand prize winner Muhammad Adhar Onn, 35, from Subang Jaya, took home a pair of return AirAsia flights from Kuala Lumpur to Darwin, Australia, for his light-hearted yet deeply meaningful entry. In the original photo, a seven-year-old Adhar drinks from a bottle while perched in his 51-year-old father's arms. In the recreated image, Adhar, now a grown man at 35, sits on his father's hip, now 79 years old in the same pose, bottle and all. The striped shirts, serious expressions and even the stance are perfectly matched, adding a humorous touch to a beautiful message. Another grand prize winner James Lin Tzy Lun, 29, from Batu Caves, won a pair of return AirAsia flights from Kuala Lumpur to Pattaya, Thailand, for his emotional recreation of a childhood photo. In the throwback, one-year-old Lin is cradled in his 26-year-old father's arms. Decades later, in a touching reversal of roles, 29-year-old Lin now carries his 54-year-old father on his back, smiling wide. The gesture is mirrored by a heartfelt caption: 'You were the one who carried me then. Now, it is my turn to carry you toward a better future.' Lin recalled moments such as his father taking a salary advance to buy him a laptop for university, proof that love does not always need words. Sometimes, it is shown through quiet, powerful acts. More prizes The prize list did not end there. Participants stood a chance to win from a generous pool of rewards worth over RM50,000, including the Applecrumby Essentials Set, PS1 and PS2 tickets to Daesung's 'D's Wave' 2025 Asia Tour in Malaysia, a Vivo V50 Lite smartphone and Vivo TWS 3e earbuds, 2D1N stays at Lost World of Tambun Floating Villa and Sunway Lagoon Villas (for two adults), SWS Family Chicken Essence and home appliances consisting of the Tefal Duo Power JF4031 and Tefal Delirice Max Rice Cooker RK7778. Damodara Devandaran from Bukit Mertajam, Penang. Winners also received dining vouchers for Sichuan Kitchen, The Mesh and O'Briens Café, along with exclusive collectibles, such as the Starbucks and miffy collection. Additional treats included admission tickets to Sunway Lagoon Night Park Captain Quack Land, Lost World Hot Springs Night Park and Sk8te City Kuala Lumpur. Last year's campaign, held in conjunction with Mother's Day, saw the launch of the Super Mom Contest, celebrating mothers through love and storytelling. Participants were invited to share a meaningful photo with their mum alongside a heartfelt message on Facebook and in return, theSun rewarded winners with prizes worth RM30,000. What began as a digital contest became a collective celebration of family ties. This contest served as a rare and meaningful pause, a return to old memories and a reminder to cherish the people in them. To view the full list of winners, visit theSun's official Facebook, Instagram or TikTok pages and a big thank you to all participating sponsors for making this contest possible. Whether or not they walked away with prizes, each participant walked away with something arguably more valuable – the chance to relive a cherished memory and create a new one in its place.

ADHAR Hosts Inspiring Evening at MCA Club, BKC to Celebrate Inclusion, Gratitude, and Social Impact
PNN New Delhi [India], June 20: In a deeply moving celebration titled "An Evening of Gratitude, Connection and Celebration," ADHAR, Asia's largest lifelong care institution for persons with intellectual disabilities, brought together caregivers, donors, professionals, and supporters on the evening of June 13, 2025, at the Boundary Hall, MCA Club, BKC. Founded with the vision of "ensuring dignity, security, and lifelong care for persons with intellectual disabilities", ADHAR has grown into a powerful community spanning over 435 families across centres in Badlapur, Nasik, and Satara. The organisation's mission centres around providing a nurturing, permanent home for individuals with intellectual disabilities who cannot live independently, ensuring that no family is left asking, "Who will care for my child after me?" The event began with a warm welcome address by Mr. Ajay Mehta, who set the tone of gratitude and shared purpose. The proceedings were anchored with grace and compassion by Mr. Sachin Kelkar, the evening's Master of Ceremonies. A highlight of the evening was an evocative session titled "Adhar's Journey - A Reflection on 31 Years of Transformative Work," presented by Mr. Arun Wadhwa, who powerfully narrated ADHAR's evolution--from its humble beginnings to becoming a model of inclusive, lifelong care. The evening's core was a deeply engaging panel discussion on "Intellectual Disability, future vision of ADHAR and the Power of Collective Action", featuring: -Mr. Milind Sarwate, Strategic Advisor to ADHAR -Mr. Vishwas Gore, Chairman, ADHAR -Ms. Sangeeta Dasmohapatra, Chief- Partnership and Communication The panel addressed critical concerns faced by caregivers--lifelong dependency, the invisibility of adult care needs, and the lack of systemic solutions. It provided a forum for both introspection and action which explored Adhar's present impact, future vision, upcoming plans, and the urgent need for deeper stakeholder engagement. Speaking at the event, Mr. Vishwas Gore shared: "We are not merely building homes--we are building futures. ADHAR stands as a promise to every parent that they will never walk this journey alone." Rather than individual honours or recognitions, the evening embodied collective gratitude--a heartfelt acknowledgement of the donors, volunteers, professionals, and caregivers whose silent efforts sustain ADHAR's work. A major highlight of the evening was Mr. Milind Sarwate's introduction of the 5 P's Framework--Partnership, Purpose Alignment, People Involvement, Potential Building, and Promotion, which was thought-provoking and inspired deeper reflection on sustainable engagement, encouraging corporates to move beyond funding and foster long-term, purpose-driven collaborations. Ms. Sangeeta, drawing on her extensive experience in the social field, highlighted how ADHAR stands out in today's transactional world by staying deeply rooted in care, empathy, and integrity. She also shared ADHAR's upcoming projects and broad plans to reach more individuals. The panel discussion inspired collective responsibility and sparked valuable conversations on inclusion, strategy, and long-term impact through collaborative scale-up. The celebration concluded with closing remarks by Mr. Ganesh Ambekar, Chief Operating Officer, followed by a networking dinner fostering personal connections and reinforcing a shared commitment to the cause. ADHAR continues its mission to challenge stigma, create lifelong support systems, and redefine inclusion, reminding society that true progress lies not in charity but in shared humanity and sustained care.
