Monaco's Adi Hütter considered as Xabi Alonso replacement at Bayer Leverkusen
While fans savour another podium finish and an automatic qualification for the UEFA Champions League group stage, there are plenty of questions surrounding the makeup of AS Monaco next season and even who may lead them on the sidelines. With their 2-0 victory over Olympique Lyonnais last Saturday, Les Monégasques are guaranteed to finish in the top three for the 31st time, the most of any side in the French top flight. Advertisement Nearing the end of his second season with Monaco, manager Adi Hütter has had two hugely successful campaigns, though they had their share of bumps along the way in 2024-25. The Austrian has achieved the goal of getting them into the Champions League in each of his two campaigns and is under contract until 2027. At the same time, Bayer Leverkusen are looking for a new coach, with Xabi Alonso soon to take charge of Real Madrid. Hütter's success in the Principality and prior experience in the Bundesliga could see him return to Germany. Hütter was named the Bundesliga Coach of the Season on two occasions at Eintracht Frankfurt, guiding them to the German Super Cup final in 2018. L'Équipe reports that Leverkusen would be interested in the Monaco boss even though they'd have to pay the Principality club compensation. GFFN | Joel Lefevre

AS Monaco exploring move for Fiorentina goalkeeper David De Gea
AS Monaco are interested in Fiorentina goalkeeper David De Gea (34), according to Fabrizio Romano. The Italian reporter understands that Les Monégasques have shortlisted the former Manchester United goalie. The Spain international spent a season on the sidelines as a free agent at the end of his spell at Old Trafford in 2023. He signed for Serie A side Fiorentina last year. After a convincing season, Fiorentina are reportedly in talks to retain De Gea and extend his stay until 2028. Monaco are in the market for a goalkeeper following unconvincing campaigns from both Philipp Köhn and Radosław Majecki. Since the halcyon days of Danijel Subašić, no goalkeeper in Monaco has really nailed down the starting spot between the sticks at Stade Louis-II. Club CEO Thiago Scuro confirmed last week that Les Monégasques were in the market for a goalkeeper to bolster Adi Hütter's squad. Monaco will feature in the Champions League this season following their 3rd-place finish in Ligue 1. GFFN | Bastien Cheval

Mika Biereth's value is skyrocketing, leaving Monaco with a big decision this summer
Mika Biereth (22) has been a sensation since arriving in the Principality in January from Sturm Graz, leading the club with 13 goals in Ligue 1. AS Monaco signed the London-born striker for a reported fee of €13m, with an additional €2m in add-ons. The Danish international committed to a four-and-a-half-year deal with the French side. His immediate impact at Monaco has clearly caught many people's attention. L'Équipe reports that Biereth's current value is three times more than the price Monaco paid for him in January. They say that one unnamed club is prepared to spend €35m to acquire his services. Advertisement He's been a goal machine for Adi Hütter's side, and the former Fulham and Arsenal academy is sure to have plenty of big clubs looking at him, given what he's produced in a short period in Ligue 1. He'll be one of many names to follow closely for Monaco when the transfer window opens, as plenty of young prospects at the club like Maghnes Akliouche (23) and Eliesse Ben Seghir (20) are potentially on the market as well. It's a big summer for Monaco, and with only one match remaining in the Ligue 1 campaign, interest in Biereth will likely intensify as we inch closer to the summer transfer window opening. Adi Hütter: "Very proud of my players after this qualification"
Obviously very happy with a 2-0 victory against Lyon and qualification for the Champions League, the Monegasque manager spoke at the post-match press conference. A Hitchcockian scenario which meant a podium finish for AS Monaco! After beating Lyon 2-0, our Rouge et Blanc also took advantage of the defeats on the part of all their direct competitors to validate their return to the Champions League at the end of this 33rd round of Ligue 1. It was qualification which obviously makes Adi Hütter proud, as he expressed in a post-match press conference.🎙️ Everyone was happy in the locker room and I think we deserved this qualification. I am very proud of my players, my coaching staff and my performance team, who work with me every day, which is sometimes not easy. If we look at our last 10 matches, and at last season, we've only conceded up one defeat in Brest where we were unlucky. Advertisement Good evening, coach. What a result tonight, qualifying for the Champions League! Before the match, we didn't expect this victory to qualify us for the Champions League again. We first had to get the job done by winning, and that's what we did during the match in a big match against Lyon. The fact that all the other results have gone our way is crazy and strange but I'm really happy as you can imagine. Everyone was happy in the locker room and I think we deserved this qualification. I am very proud of my players, my coaching staff and my performance team, who work with me every day, which is sometimes not easy. If we look at our last 10 matches, and at last season, we've only conceded up one defeat in Brest where we were unlucky. Is the fact that Denis Zakaria scored the determinative goal of the season symbolic for you? You know, I have a special relationship with Denis. I knew him and coached him when he was just a teenager, at 18 at Young Boys Bern and then in Mönchengladbach. I think that if he came to AS Monaco, it's partly because I'm there too. I have the feeling that he's like my child, even if he's now an experienced player. Advertisement His goal validated our success but the most important was the one scored by Takumi Minamino because we were struggling a bit. Lyon were playing well and we decided to switch from 4-4-2 to 4-2-3-1, I think that was a key moment for us in this match. I'd like to thank the fans for their encouragement! It was important to see them tonight, and we were able to repay their trust. They have often been in large numbers in the away end during our trips and supported us during every home game. They therefore played an important role in this qualification. I loved the atmosphere tonight; it's a fantastic night for AS Monaco! Adi HütterThe atmosphere at Stade Louis-II Advertisement This season has been difficult at times, but you've finally achieved your goal. It's a similar situation to last season, although they're not comparable because we had played in the Champions other clubs in the league have also invested heavily, both in coaches and experienced players. When we look at our squad, we've also changed things, and some talented young players arrived this summer. We have played 11 more matches between the Champions League and the Trophée des champions in Doha, and in that context this success is therefore even stronger than last season. It's true that we have experienced some ups and downs in our performances this season, but that's normal given the youth of the squad. The pressure was there, but we managed it well. A word about the exceptional atmosphere in the stadium tonight? I'd like to thank the fans for their encouragement! It was important to see them tonight, and we were able to repay their trust. They have often been in large numbers in the away end during our trips and supported us during every home game. They therefore played an important role in this qualification. I loved the atmosphere tonight; it's a fantastic night for AS Monaco! Can you give us an update on Folarin Balogun, who was out tonight? Folarin suffered a slight knock in training yesterday and wasn't fit to play. His injury isn't very serious. We'll see if he can be available, but it won't make sense for him to play if he's not 100%. We'll see, in any case, after the three days of rest we've granted him, because we're going to celebrate this qualification first, before preparing for our final away game. My players deserve it.

‘For them, it is the last chance' – Monaco's Adi Hütter wary of Lyon threat
AS Monaco and Olympique Lyonnais are preparing for potentially season-defining games. The pair will face each other on Saturday with hopes of UEFA Champions League qualification on the line for both sides. Monaco are currently third with 58 points and Lyon seventh with 54. The latter are three points behind sixth-placed RC Strasbourg Alsace, who are level on points with Lille OSC and OGC Nice, who are fourth and fifth respectively. For their Champions League hopes, nothing but a win will do. Advertisement Speaking in a press conference attended by Get French Football News, Adi Hütter struck a cautious tone, saying that Paulo Fonseca's side were hard done by in defeats to Manchester United and RC Lens in recent weeks. 'For Lyon, I was disappointed that they lost against Manchester United. Football can be crazy and hard, and they felt it there. They were better than Lens, too. But they have lots of experience in this squad. For them, it is the last chance (to qualify for the Champions League), so we need to be really aware of this team,' said Hütter.
