Two ATM looters from Mewat held after encounter in Delhi
New Delhi, Jul 25 (PTI) After a brief chase and an encounter, the Delhi Police Special Cell arrested two wanted members of an interstate Mewati gang involved in multiple ATM break-ins on Thursday, an official said on Friday. Both the accused, Sazid (23) and Adil (27), residents of Mathura and Palwal in Haryana, respectively, were on a bike when they were signalled to stop by the police. They tried to flee and, after a brief chase and an exchange of fire, both were arrested near the Jaitpur-Kalindi Kunj Pusta road around 10 pm, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Amit Kaushik said. Both were injured in the encounter and are currently undergoing treatment in a hospital, the officer added. Two pistols with live cartridges, a total of Rs 48,500 looted during a recent ATM break-in in Siliguri in West Bengal and a stolen bike from Delhi have been recovered, he added. According to the officer, the Special Cell had been tracking Sazid and his gang for the past six months. He is wanted in connection with several ATM loot and arms trafficking cases in several states, including Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Delhi. Adil is wanted in cases in Gujarat and West Bengal. Police said the breakthrough in the case came following the January arrest of a Mewat-based criminal, Jamshed, by the Special Cell team. Jamshed, who was wanted in the 2012 murder of a Delhi Police head constable, Yashpal, following an alleged cow theft in Baba Haridas Nagar, had allegedly disclosed during interrogation that he got the weapon from Sazid. He allegedly also accused Sazid of being involved in multiple ATM robberies across states. 'Since then, police teams camped in the Mewat region and developed information about Sazid's operations. Sazid and his associates would travel to target states in trucks, carrying gas cylinders and tools required for cutting ATMs. 'After conducting reconnaissance and stealing local vehicles for the operation, they would abandon the vehicles post-robbery and return to Mewat via different routes," the DCP said. On July 24, the team received information about Sazid and Adil's movement in the Madanpur Khadar area and laid a trap on the Jaitpur-Kalindi Kunj Pusta road. Sazid revealed that he had previously been arrested by the police in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Punjab in connection with ATM robberies. Following the arrest of his associates by Mathura Police, he shifted his base to Nuh to evade arrest. Police also said Adil confessed to being involved in multiple ATM loots. The DSP said such actions, including distribution of drugs used for surgery and steroid tablets that could cause illness, will not be tolerated. Following the raid, a recommendation was made to the Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO) to seize the gym. With the RDO's permission, Lion Fitness Gym was officially seized in the presence of officials from the police, revenue, and municipality departments. The municipality also confirmed the cancellation of the gym's trade license. DSP Reddy urged the public to be vigilant and refrain from using any unprescribed tablets or injections offered by gym administrators. More info A Post Office manager says he was left "traumatised" and unable to eat for four days after allegedly biting into a Tesco sandwich and finding a live cockroach wriggling in his mouth. Adil Vasaya, 41, from Bolton, Greater Manchester, had purchased a chicken tikka sandwich, a pack of Walkers Max Flame Grilled, and a Mountain Dew as part of a meal deal from Tesco's Preston Superstore on Saturday, July 5. Moments after taking a bite in to the sandwich,he claims he felt the wiggling legs of a live cockroach crawling around in his mouth. "When I felt it in my mouth and I pulled it out I thought it was a piece of cinnamon – because it's a tikka one I thought it might be a bit of spice or cinnamon," Adil said. "As I put it down I saw legs come out and it started moving it just freaked me out." Read the biggest stories in Wales first by signing up to our daily newsletter here Adil says he then ran upstairs and spat his sandwich into the toilet before driving back to Tesco with his wife to return the rest of the soiled product. There he was refunded just £1.76 – the cost of the sandwich minus the meal deal discount – and had two Clubcard points deducted from his card's balance. The whole ordeal has left a sour taste for Adil who said he struggled to eat for the next four days. "I couldn't even eat," he claimed. "I couldn't even face putting anything in my mouth. It literally traumatised me that much. For the first four days I just didn't feel like eating at all." Tesco says it is conducting a "full investigation" but has still not identified the source of the insect and said no issues have been reported in its supply chain. However, Adil claims that he's heard nothing from Tesco since returning the sandwich to the store, adding: "I'd like an investigation to be put forward to find out how this actually happened." A Tesco spokesman said: "We're sorry to hear about this. We work closely with our suppliers to ensure there are robust quality procedures in place and sandwiches are thoroughly checked throughout the production process. "In a situation like this we always ask that the customer returns the product to store for a full refund and so our team can fully investigate the potential cause."

'I thought I'd bitten chunk of cinnamon in my Meal Deal - then it wriggled'
Adil Vasaya, 41, from Bolton, bit into his chicken tikka sandwich from Tesco when he said he felt wriggling legs in what he assumed was a tasty treat and was horrified to find a live bug inside A Post Office manager claimed he was left unable to eat for four days after he found a cockroach wriggling around his mouth after he bit into a Tesco meal deal sandwich. Adil Vasaya, 41, from Bolton, Greater Manchester, bought a chicken tikka sandwich, a pack of Walkers Max Flame Grilled crisps, and a bottle of Mountain Dew as part of a meal deal from Tesco's Preston Superstore earlier this month on Saturday, July 5. However, when the Chorley Post Office manager bit into the sandwich he says he felt the wiggling legs of a live cockroach crawling around in his mouth. Adil said: 'When I felt it in my mouth and I pulled it out, I thought it was a piece of cinnamon, because it's a tikka one I thought it might be a bit of spice or cinnamon. In a similar case, a couple who bought a rotisserie chicken from Costco in Vauxhall, Liverpool, earlier this month were left disgusted when they spotted maggots hatching inside the bag. Liam Jamieson bought the ready-to-eat chicken, but says when his partner went to prepare the meat for dinner, she noticed a white, lumpy substance inside the sealed packet. Liam initially brushed it off, thinking it was "just fat", then his partner used her phone to zoom in and take a picture and the grim reality became clear - maggots were hatching from larvae inside the bag. Liam said he phoned the store immediately, and claims he was told to put the chicken into the freezer, returning the product whenever it was convenient for him to do so. Instead, Liam said he put the chicken in a carrier bag and left it out of the way, intending to return it as soon as the store opened the next morning. But he then made a further grim discovery when he looked inside the package to find larvae had hatched with flies "crawling all over the place." Liam said he returned the product to the store and was assured an investigation would be carried out. He said he was also given a £20 Costco voucher.
