Tribal sub-plan must implemented to improve socioeconomic conditions of people living in agency areas: AIKMKS
The successive governments have completely ignored the implementation Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) and recommendations made by Koneru Ranga Rao committee, which insisted on poverty reduction, improvement of quality of life with the allocation of more funds for the Agency areas, All India Khet Mazdoor Kisan Sabha National co-convener and president of Rythu Coolie Sangham of Andhra Pradesh Simhadri Jhansi and RCS State secretary Dantuluri Varma on Sunday (August 10) alleged. They hailed the good response from the tribals who organised rallies in Kurupam, Makkuva, Gummalakshmipuram and other areas to highlight their issues on Adivasi Day celebrated on Saturday (August 09). Speaking to the media here, Ms. Jhansi said that the allocation of funds in the budget should be in accordance with the population of the tribal people since their socio-economic status was very poor compared to other sections of society. She said that their income levels would go up only when the government allocated land to the tribal farmers since it was one of the major promises made by previous governments. She said that the effective implementation of Andhra Pradesh Scheduled Areas Land Transfer Regulation-1959 (popularly known as 1 of 70 Act after its amendment in the year-1970) was the need of the hour since the Act prohibited transfer of lands in the Agency areas to non-tribal people. Mr. Dantuluri Varma said that the condition of the tribals in non-tribal areas was even more pathetic with the denial of 'ST' certificates and other benefits from the government. 'Around 700 non-tribal villages must be included in tribal areas so that the lands would not be bought by others. The land distribution and rights over cultivation would enable the tribal people to have a regular source of income. The government should also strengthen Girijan Cooperative Corporation stores in all places to buy tribal produce,' Mr. Varma added.

Rythu Coolie Sangham rallies for scheduled area status and tribal rights in Andhra Pradesh
PARVATIPURAM Rythu Coolie Sangham Andhra Pradesh State secretary Dantuluri Varma on Saturday alleged that thousands of tribal people living in non-scheduled tribal areas were facing severe hardships in securing land and other benefits from the government. Marking Adivasi Day, the association organised a massive rally at Duggeru in Parvatipuram-Manyam district. Addressing the media, Mr. Varma demanded that non-scheduled tribal areas be declared as scheduled areas, and called for the implementation of the Panchayats (Extension to Scheduled Areas) Act, 1996 (PESA) to safeguard the interests of lakhs of tribals in the district and across the State. He alleged that successive governments had ignored tribal welfare, evident in poor road connectivity and lack of drinking water facilities. He urged the government to construct a bridge over the Addaru stream to provide hassle-free connectivity to 30 villages in Makkuva mandal. Association district president Vuyaka Mutyalu, vice-president Peedika Asiri, and other leaders also demanded an exclusive DSC examination for tribal students who have completed as promised by all political parties during the 2024 general elections. They sought land rights for tribals engaged in agriculture for decades in agency areas.

CM Chandrababu Naidu to take part in Adivasi Day celebrations in ASR
VISAKHAPATNAM: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will visit Alluri Sitarama Raju district on Saturday to take part in the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples celebrations. The event will be held in Vanjangi and Lagisapalli villages in Paderu mandal. According to the official schedule, the Chief Minister will arrive at Lagisapalli at 10 am, and proceed to Vanjangi. He will visit a local temple, participate in the Adivasi Day celebrations, inspect housing units, and interact with farmers at nearby coffee plantation. From 11.45 am to 1.05 pm, the Chief Minister will attend a public meeting, inaugurate various development programmes, lay foundation stones for new projects, and witness the signing of several agreements. Ahead of the visit, extensive arrangements have been made to ensure the smooth conduct of the programme. Tribal cultural performances and traditional festival practices are expected to be showcased at the village, where the Chief Minister is likely to interact with tribals. He is also scheduled to inspect a homestay facility in the area, and later attend a meeting with TDP workers near Lagisapalli before returning to Vijayawada.
