SUNY Broome's ‘Walk-in Wednesday' empowers adult learners

TOWN OF DICKINSON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – SUNY Broome is accommodating adult learners as they further their education. SUNY Broome's Admissions Welcome Center is offering extended Walk-in Wednesday hours throughout the summer. New and returning students can stop by the Admissions office any Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. to receive assistance. The Admissions Office can help individuals: Get instantly accepted Explore degrees, certificates, and micro credentials Get personalized help with the application Meet one-on-one with admissions counselors Learn about financial aid, flexible scheduling, and career options Free tuition a possibility for adult learners at SUNY community colleges Governor Kathy Hochul recently announced free community college for adult learners. The program, SUNY Reconnect, begins in Fall 2025 and will provide free tuition, fees, books, and supplies to adults aged 25 to 55 without a college degree who pursue an associate's degree in a high-demand field. To be eligible for the program, students must enroll in a high-demand field such as advanced manufacturing, artificial Intelligence, cybersecurity, engineering, technology, nursing and allied health fields, green and renewable energy, and pathways to teaching in shortage areas. 'At the start of the next semester, the University will offer 148 academic programmes across 15 colleges, spanning a wide range of disciplines. These include 64 undergraduate programmes and 84 graduate programmes (23 doctoral, 58 master's, and three higher diploma programmes). Each of these programmes is carefully designed to align with the evolving needs of both the local and regional job markets,' he added . Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, Dr. Amina Al Marzouqi, described the Open Day as a valuable opportunity for prospective university students to align their academic ambitions with their personal interests and the evolving demands of the labor market.
