Your chance to win £6,000 to super-charge your business

Small businesses are the backbone of the UK With economic growth in the United Kingdom top of people's minds and driving the news agenda this year, Telegraph Media Group is working with Adobe Express to reward some of Britain's brightest business talents, whose creativity brings solutions to our day-to-day problems while helping to improve the economic outlook. With small and medium businesses responsible for 60 per cent of UK employment and 48 per cent of business turnover, according to UK Parliament data, entrepreneurs are the lifeblood of the UK, delivering impact as they come up with ideas to empower and enable their customers and communities. Express your Innovation competition Adobe Express has set up the Express your Innovation competition to award three entrepreneurs, one each from three categories: Community, Small Business and Rising Star, with funding that will supercharge their next business idea or give them the platform to embrace innovative new working methods or fresh challenges. As well as investing £6,000 to help the winners take the next steps in their career, Adobe will also provide the expertise they need to succeed including personalised help from a member of the Adobe team to elevate their marketing and business documents. The winners will also get access to Adobe Express Premium and benefit from one-to-one business mentoring from the judge in their category to help them bring their ideas to fruition. Claire Darley 'At Adobe we are passionate about empowering small business owners with accessible, professional-quality design tools. Adobe Express simplifies the creative process so entrepreneurs can save time and money while focusing on growing their businesses. Through this competition, we're excited to provide practical skills, mentorship and inspiration to help entrepreneurs communicate their vision in an increasingly competitive market,' says Claire Darley, vice president at Adobe. Which category should you enter? Community Are you engaged in an initiative that seeks to create positive change in a local area? You will be improving the social, economic or environmental aspects of a community and seeking to empower or enhance well-being by addressing others' needs or aspirations. Small Business To enter this category, your business will employ fewer than 100 people and you will have a product or service that customers love. You will have an idea for how to grow your business or rise to the challenges you are currently facing. Rising Star We're looking for people who have an idea, a passion and big dreams for the future. Tell us about you and your idea, express your innovation and you could receive investment, mentoring and marketing to help bring your concept to life. A role model entrepreneur One entrepreneur who embodies passion and the will to overcome challenges is Julian Boaitey from Yendy Skin. His skincare business that creates products with ingredients such as shea butter, moringa, baobab and hibiscus started out with the aim to deliver a social mission to help small-scale female farmers in Africa. Julian Boaitey Boaitey says: 'Our mission is to try and spread awareness on the age-old problem of supply chain transparency and female farmers being underpaid for the ingredients that they put into the products that we buy on the high street.' He adds that one of the key challenges he faced was standing out in a crowded market, especially as a start-up with a relatively small budget compared to the giants in the beauty market. 'Branding was incredibly important for us. We wanted to celebrate Africa in its bright colours, but we wanted a new approach,' he says. Boaitey admits that he has had moments where he's woken up worrying, 'Is this going to work?' and says that founders need to be resilient as well as creative to deal with business challenges. Our judging panel Our competition judging panel comprises UK leaders who have earned their business stripes: Natalie Campbell is an award-winning purpose-led social entrepreneur and co-chief executive of Belu Water and will judge the Community category. Campbell co-founded A Very Good Company, a social innovation agency, chaired National Council for Voluntary Youth Services and was on the board of UnLtd, the Foundation for Social Entrepreneurs, for 10 years. Paul Lindley Paul Lindley will judge the Rising Star category. In 2004, he founded Ella's Kitchen, which is the largest baby food company in the UK with a global revenue of £87m+. Lindley now campaigns for young people and children's welfare and wellbeing. As the chief executive of the Federation of Small Businesses, Julie Lilley is the voice of small companies in the UK, and is our judge for the Small Business category. She is an award-winning executive female role model and has leadership experience in both public service and private enterprise. So what will impress the judges in their categories? 'I will be looking for projects that clearly demonstrate a clear purpose,' says Campbell. 'The storytelling of what inspired someone to want to serve their community is really important. I'll be looking for some kind of actual, tangible connection to a community. Then viability. At Belu, the framework we have is purpose, people, products, profit as we are wholly focused on our mission but profit is a really important part of that because we cannot do what we do unless we generate revenue.' 'I will be on the look out for people who are curious and want to change the status quo,' says Lindley about the Rising Star category. 'Someone who is purpose driven and who has a real understanding of how important relationships are to help them achieve their greatness.' 'Small businesses are always very passionate about what they do. What I really look for is innovation — they are very capable of seeing an opportunity and filling that gap,' Lilley adds. 'Creativity is also really important because you have to stand out from the crowd, differentiate yourself from bigger businesses on the high street — small businesses have to offer something that people want beyond anything else. They can be quite quirky: they have to find that edge, and that's where creativity comes in. Passion, creativity and innovation are inherent in great small business leaders.' We want you to enter if you are an entrepreneur who is the driving force behind your company's ideas, telling us why they are successful. You could be an individual who is delivering incredible local impact with their community project and who now wants to scale up their operation. For the Small Business category (up to 100 employees), we are looking for someone who has risen to meet challenges and now wants to break new ground, tackle their biggest business challenge or implement a new idea to scale their offer and revenues. And in the Rising Star category we want to hear from you if you are at the start of your business journey and have an exceptional story to tell about how you came up with your business idea or have a unique product or service in the offing that is truly groundbreaking. How to enter Fill in your details and answer the questions on the entry form below. Please note applications are LIVE NOW and the entry deadline is 23:59 on 22 April 2025. Winning entrants will be notified by 30 April 2025. Winners must respond to the notification within three days or the prize may be awarded to an alternative winner.
