Tim Scott smacks down CBS anchor over Trump question
A top Republican in the U.S. Senate stepped up to defend his Christian faith and relationship with President Trump during an interview on CBS Tuesday. Republican South Carolina Senator Tim Scott appeared on 'CBS Mornings Plus' to promote his new book on Christian faith in America. CBS anchor Adriana Diaz bluntly asked Scott about how he reconciles his 'support for President Trump when many people see his actions as lacking Christian values.' Diaz mentioned Trump's hardline immigration policies as well as cuts to foreign aid. Scott, a practicing Christian, fired back: 'Being able to put ourselves back on solid ground is really important.' He then listed off a slew of actions taken under Trump, which he sees as policy wins for all Americans, including Christians, including his big tax bill and lowering inflation. 'When we passed the Trump tax cuts in 2017, we lowered the taxes for a single mother by 70%. If you look at the expansion of the child tax credit, $2,200 today, it was $2,000 when we first passed it, it was only $1,000 before we passed it,' Scott said, harkening back to Trump's first term. On foreign aid, Scott pointed to Trump's action on PEPFAR, the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, which Trump has 'reinforced' to provide 'billions of dollars to Africa for AIDS.' 'I would say, without any question, the most compassionate approach to providing the best future for the American people is by giving them as many of their resources to make their own decisions,' Scott argued. The South Carolina Republican was additionally asked if he agreed with Trump's recent firing of the Commissioner of the Bureau of Statistics (BLS). Although Scott did not give a direct answer on whether or not he believed the former BLS Commissioner had been a 'political hack,' he did share the belief that the agency had been 'mismanaged.' Trump and Scott have had a long history together, as far back as their time as rivals during the 2016 presidential primary election. Scott is the longest-serving African American in U.S. Senate history, and the only one to have served in the House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate. The senator is doing media rounds to promote his new book on Christian faith in America, 'One Nation Always Under God: Profiles in Christian Courage.' In the book, Scott's overall argument is that America has shifted from its Judeo-Christian values. Scott has long been outspoken about his Christian faith. Fox News host Ainsley Earhardt then asked Noce how she knew Scott was 'the one.' 'God shows you the path,' Noce responded. She added that she ignores critics who say they got married because he was a presidential nominee and are 'upset he is a black man.' Tim Scott became a stepfather after marrying Mindy Noce last year. Fox & Friends host Ainsley Earhardt questioned the couple about the criticism they've received - particularly from ABC's The View, who suggested the senator only got engaged to be in the running for vice president. 'They are ridiculous, period. It is not just comments about me, they get paid to tear people down,' Scott replied. He added he 'goes into prayer' when the negativity about their relationship surfaces.

And he knew she was the one from their first conversation. 'She laughs and understands love of country and love [of] the Lord,' he explained. She's 'attractive, family, devoted to the country. It's a pretty good deal' the Senator said of his bride last year.

UTT Season 6: Ahmedabad SG Pipers look to bounce back against momentum-carrying Kolkata ThunderBlades
Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], June 9 (ANI): With Ankur Bhattacharjee, Quadri Aruna, and Adriana Diaz all winning their singles rubbers, Kolkata ThunderBlades beat reigning champions Dempo Goa Challengers 9-6 in the IndianOil Ultimate Table Tennis (UTT) Season 6 on Sunday. Kolkata's victory saw them move into the playoff spots, occupying fourth with 29 points. Goa, with six more game wins on the board, moved level on points with leaders Jaipur Patriots and U Mumba TT, as per UTT. Staged under the aegis of the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) and promoted by Niraj Bajaj and Vita Dani, UTT continues to grow as a premier professional league. All 23 ties, over 16 action-packed days, will take place at Ahmedabad's EKA Arena. The tie opened with a gripping clash between two of the league's best: Goa captain Harmeet Desai took the opening game 11-10 after a stunning comeback from 4-9 down, but Aruna fought back with relentless aggression to take the next two games and hand Harmeet his first singles loss of the season. Adriana Diaz followed with a dominant 3-0 win over Krittwika Sinha Roy, highlighted by a jaw-dropping defensive rally turned match point winner, which earned her the Shots of the Tie award. Ankur and Diaz kept the momentum alive in the doubles, edging Harmeet and Zeng Jian in a tight 2-1 win, their first of the season as a pair. Ankur returned to the table and showcased his class, coming back from a game down to overwhelm Ronit Bhanja 11-1 in the decider, maintaining his unbeaten start. Though Zeng gave Goa a strong finish with a dominant 3-0 win over Selena Selvakumar--extending her unbeaten record to 4-0--it was not enough to prevent a second defeat. For their efforts, Ankur and Diaz were named the Indian and the Foreign Player of the Tie, respectively. It was double delight for Kolkata ThunderBlades, as they claimed the inaugural title at the Dream UTT Juniors-a joint initiative by UTT and Dream Sports Foundation-earlier in the day, with a 5-2 win over U Mumba TT. Ritvik Gupta started the final with a win in the singles rubber, before combining with Swara Karmakar to help Kolkata into a 4-2 lead. Ultimate Table Tennis Season 6: Debutants Kolkata ThunderBlades open against Stanley's Chennai Lions
Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], June 1 (ANI): Debutants Kolkata ThunderBlades will kick off their IndianOil Ultimate Table Tennis (UTT) Season 6 campaign against Season 3 champions Stanley's Chennai Lions on Monday in the day's first tie, scheduled for 5 PM. Following that, U Mumba TT will clash with Western rivals Ahmedabad SG Pipers in a highly-anticipated derby at 7:30 PM, as per a UTT press release. Staged under the aegis of the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) and promoted by Niraj Bajaj and Vita Dani, IndianOil UTT continues to grow as a premier professional league. All 23 ties, over 16 action-packed days, will take place at Ahmedabad's EKA Arena. Led by an all-star foreguard of Olympians Aruna Quadri and Adriana Diaz, as well as India's 18-year-old sensation Ankur Bhattacharjee, Kolkata ThunderBlades are well-positioned to make an impact in their debut season. Aruna (World Ranking 27), returning for his fifth season with UTT, is the highest-ranked men's player this season, while Diaz (WR17), back for her second assignment after 2018, is the second-highest-ranked women's player. All eyes, however, will be on Ankur, who was the undisputed find of the previous season. Storming into the arena with unbridled intensity, Ankur won four of his five matches and 10 of the 15 games he contested-at a win rate of 66.67, the second-highest in Season 5-and stacked high across the board in terms of numbers in a breakout campaign. On the opposite end will be the former Youth World No. 1 Payas Jain, flanked by seasoned international stars Fan Siqi and Kirill Gerassimenko. Fan, the highest-valued player at this season's auction, is only the third player from China to partake in the league, while Kazakhstan's Gerassimenko is back for his third taste of UTT, after previously appearing in seasons three and four. In the day's second tie, U Mumba TT will aim to settle scores from last season's 9-6 defeat against Western rivals Ahmedabad SG Pipers in what promises to be a closely fought clash. While both sides would have completed their opening fixtures by then, this matchup carries an extra edge, with both teams fielding revamped and balanced line-ups for Season 6. Leading the charge for U Mumba is World No. 12 Bernadette Szocs, the highest-ranked player in the league. She'll be supported by returning Frenchman Lilian Bardet and rising Indian star Yashaswini Ghorpade. For the hosts, Ricardo Walther--fresh off a strong debut despite a 10-5 loss to Dempo Goa Challengers--will be key. His growing chemistry with Ayhika Mukherjee in the mixed doubles category adds intrigue to an already high-stakes contest. Adriana Diaz laces up to take on childhood dream of figure skating with Elladj Baldé
"Never Too Late:" Adriana Diaz hits the ice for her childhood dream Adriana Diaz traded her reporter's notebook for figure skates in the latest installment of "CBS Mornings" "Never Too Late" series. Diaz, who celebrated her 10th birthday with an ice skating party, enlisted professional skater Elladj Baldé as her coach. The Canadian figure skater has gained widespread recognition for breaking traditional boundaries in the sport by incorporating hip-hop, funk and creative expression into his routines. Baldé, whose unique style went viral during the pandemic, reassured Diaz when she questioned her adult-learning capabilities. "It's never, never too late," Baldé said. "I've met people that started skating in their 30s, 40s, even in their 50s." The two-day training session included learning fundamental techniques like crossovers, with Baldé providing constant encouragement. When Diaz did eventually take her first tumble, Baldé congratulated her: "You've officially become a real figure skater." Baldé opened up about his past struggles as a person of color in figure skating. "I would change the way that I skate. I would change what kind of music I listen to. I would try to adapt to that box," he reflected. "I neglected everything that was Black about me and I embraced the White side of me, and that division created a very painful experience." Baldé now helps others embrace their authentic selves through his Skate Global Foundation and training camp. Our "CBS Mornings" series Never Too Late highlights stories of people conquering new challenges or embracing a second chapter at any age in life. Watch the 6-week run, showcasing "CBS Mornings" anchors and correspondents achieving their dreams — both big and small.
