Swaroopa Ghosh returns to tv with a powerful role in Ami Dakini; says ‘I play the matriarch of the family'
Veteran actress Swaroopa Ghosh is making a notable return to the television screen with the supernatural drama Ami Dakini. Known for her nuanced performances in both film and television, Swaroopa steps into the role of a strong-willed family matriarch in a storyline that weaves mystery, emotion, and elements of the supernatural. Sharing details about her character, she says, 'I play the matriarch of the family, the grandmother of the hero. She is someone who knows the dark history behind the supernatural force that is creating havoc in the storyline. It's an intense and layered character with deep emotional undercurrents.' Swaroopa admits the timing of the opportunity felt right. 'Frankly, I didn't have any work at hand when this opportunity came along. However, the Bengali background made it easier to connect. My look is similar to how most grandmothers are portrayed in television shows, but with a slightly more authoritative touch. There's a certain gravity and presence to her,' she shares. Reflecting on her comeback journey, she adds, 'Initially, it was a bit difficult adjusting to the demanding routine of a daily soap again. But the people on set were incredibly warm and welcoming. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like France: New Container Houses (Prices May Surprise You) Container House Search Now Undo I got along really well with the director, Lalit Mohan, and my co-actors. That comfort made all the difference—it turned out to be a really enjoyable experience.' The actress also speaks candidly about how OTT platforms have impacted traditional television storytelling. 'Yes, I think the emergence of web platforms offering more realistic and high-quality content has pulled audiences away from the traditional, make-believe world of television. Earlier, TV shows drew from classic literature and real-life situations. The writing and execution were of a different caliber. Now, the obsession with TRPs seems to dominate everything, and originality suffers,' she notes. When asked about future roles, she says, 'It really depends. For instance, I did Adrishyam last year, a TV-plus format, and it was a good experience. I loved the role. So yes, if I come across something interesting that also pays well, I'm open to doing more television.' She concludes, 'A lot depends on the popularity of the show and the nature of the role. With so many channels and shows today, just getting visibility isn't enough. Whether you actually become famous depends on factors like how substantial your role is, whether it's positive or negative, and how much screen time and coverage you get.'

Eijaz Khan calls the cancellation of Adrishyam 2 midway a ‘shocker', admits going through a ‘lull' in his career
Actor Eijaz Khan, who was thrilled to be back with his web series Adrishyam 2 which released last month, was disappointed when the show was halted after only six episodes. Speaking to us, the actor mentions, how the viewers had expected a richer offering—more episodes, but felt disappointed with the sudden change. 'No one was expecting the show to be cut short in the middle. It was a shocker for the cast too. The discussions are still ongoing with the producers and channel, and there's a possibility that the show might be revived. If that happens, I think everyone will be happy,' he says, lamenting the uncertainty of the show's future. Despite the inconsistency in his projects, Eijaz feels fortunate, as while many struggled for work post-COVID, he had back-to-back opportunities. The actor was seen in Jawan (2023), Adrishyam, City of Dreams Season 3 and Dhoom Dhaam, which released earlier this year. However, he acknowledges that he is currently experiencing a lull in his career. 'I am just an actor who is trying to act,' says Eijaz, adding, 'I was supposed to start shooting for City of Dreams Season 4, but it's been postponed. And in my 20 years in this business, 99.9% of postponed projects never come back. That's just how it is.'

Mera condition tha ki sirf anchoring nahi karungi, mujhe kahaani bhi jaanani hai. Ab har baar pata chalta ki main kahaani jaanu, wahan ladki ghar se nikli haste khelte aur kuch ho gaya. Har kahaani pe woh horror tha. Pata chalta ki main anchoring ke script padhte padhte raat ko mujhe nightmares aa rahe hain, aur next din main headache leke pahunch rahi hoon shoot pe. That happened for 3–4 months and it affected me. " (I was anchoring Crime Patrol for quite a few episodes, specifically for a segment called Women Against Crime. I had one condition — I didn't just want to anchor; I wanted to know the full story behind each case. Every time I learned the details, it would hit me hard — a girl would leave her home happy, and something tragic would happen. Every story carried a sense of horror. Slowly, reading the scripts for anchoring started affecting me deeply. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Google Brain Co-Founder Andrew Ng, Recommends: Read These 5 Books And Turn Your Life Around Blinkist: Andrew Ng's Reading List Undo I began having nightmares at night and would show up on set the next day with a splitting headache. Ek switch-off karlo, he said." Haarsh, who is a writer-turned-host, spoke about how doing comedy is a difficult genre, "Aadmi khushi ko kam hold kar paata hai, lekin dard kaafi time rehta hai. Ek joke mein baar-baar nahi has sakte, toh ek dukh pe baar-baar rote kyun ho." (A person struggles to hold onto happiness, but pain tends to linger much longer.
