1 dead, 2 injured in KZN hijacking incident
An alleged hijacker was shot dead in a shoot-out with security officers yesterday afternoon in Hammarsdale, KZN. The Witness reports that two other accomplices were injured and one fled on foot.
According to Mi7 Group Director Colin David, the incident occurred just before 15:00 and Mi7's Emergency Medical Services was dispatched after reports of a shooting incident.
'An ambulance stationed at the Mi7 base at Hibiscus Hospital Cato Ridge was sent out along with Mi7's Advanced Life Support Rapid Response vehicle. Reports from the scene indicate a private security and vehicle tracking company were in an active pursuit of a stolen vehicle allegedly hijacked by four men – who were the occupants. It is alleged the hijackers opened fire on the security teams, who then fired back.
'During the altercation, one suspect was shot dead – declared dead by Mi7 medics on scene. Two others were treated for minor injuries and handed over into police custody. The fourth is believed to have fled on foot,' said David.
No members of the security team were injured.
