Agentic AI Is The ‘Now' Of The Employee Experience

Sourabh Deorah is the co-founder and CEO of The world of work is changing, and so are employee expectations. Beyond job security and pay, employees seek belonging, recognition, growth and fulfillment—much like an evolved Maslow's hierarchy of needs. While AI technology is helping organizations meet these deeper needs, one question remains. How can organizations keep up with the rising aspirations of their people? Enter AI—more specifically, agentic AI. This technology is reshaping how HR teams deliver personalized and meaningful experiences at scale. What makes agentic AI so powerful is its ability to understand the nuances of human behavior, react to changes in real time and, most importantly, interact in a conversational way. Agentic AI is intuitive, personal and engaging because, rather than merely reacting to commands, it autonomously drives meaningful, real-time experiences while offering conversational support. As a result, it can enhance key aspects of the HR function. A Seamless Employee Experience One of agentic AI's key benefits is its ability to seamlessly integrate all aspects of the employee experience—including recognition, rewards, wellness and engagement—into daily workflows. This technology can act on behalf of employees. It doesn't just respond to a request. It actively engages with employees to deliver the right information or action at the right time. And as we know, when employees feel supported, they're more likely to be engaged, perform at their best and remain with their employer. Personalizing experiences for employees has always been a challenging task. Every employee has their own preferences, behaviors and needs. Creating truly personalized experiences, especially at scale, seemed almost impossible in the past. But advanced AI technology is now elevating our approach. By intelligently utilizing data, agentic AI learns individual employees' preferences and behaviors, then tailors interactions accordingly. What once seemed like a Herculean task is now handled effortlessly as personalized employee experiences become sustainable. One of the biggest challenges HR teams face is how to make recognition timely, relevant and consistent. In traditional models, recognition often happens at predetermined times, like quarterly reviews, annual awards or milestone events. But this delayed communication can seem impersonal and disconnected from the employee's day-to-day work. With agentic AI, recognition becomes an ongoing process driven by real-time engagement and continuous feedback. The right tools can take on the administrative load, analyze engagement patterns and autonomously execute recognition workflows. To ensure the process is both personal and efficient, agentic AI could nudge managers or team leaders at optimal moments. Then a simple command like 'Reward Alex for exceptional teamwork' could initiate acts like drafting a congratulatory message or allocating points in a reward system. With this technology, recognition becomes embedded in the organization's culture, rather than feeling like an afterthought. Employee wellness programs have traditionally been passive in nature. They're set up by HR, communicated to employees, then often forgotten until the next wellness campaign. But HR leaders can turn wellness into an active process with agentic AI. This technology can identify the right opportunities for each employee based on their preferences and behaviors—whether it's taking a break, joining a wellness challenge or accessing mental health resources. Then the tool can provide personalized recommendations, reminders or nudges in real time. This can not only improve employees' health and well-being but also create a more engaging work environment. Agentic AI Can Amplify Human Connection The future of work isn't about replacing human connection with technology. It's about amplifying human potential. The key to making this work lies in blending technology with empathy. Agentic AI has the potential to completely transform the way we approach the employee experience. According to Gartner, "by 2028, 33% of enterprise software applications will include agentic AI ... enabling 15% of day-to-day work decisions to be made autonomously." So, the organizations that embrace this technology now will be able to meet their workforce's current needs and remain ahead of the curve by building a sustainable, thriving environment. The future of the employee experience is already here, and those who act quickly will reap the benefits of creating an empowered, engaged and well-supported workforce.
