Least Loving Dogs: These are the 10 least affectionate breeds of adorable dog that may turn down snuggles
A huge number of us decided to welcome new pups into our homes over the last few years – according to Kennel Club figures dog ownership has soared to record levels. There are a whopping 221 different breeds of pedigree dog to choose from, alongside numerous crossbreeds, so there's plenty of thinking to do before you select your family's latest addition. There's even academic guidance to seek out, with Psychologist Stanley Coren's book 'The Intelligence of Dogs' ranking breeds by instincts, obedience, and the ability to adapt. One thing to take into consideration is that some dogs simply aren't as affectionate towards their owners than others. It doesn't mean that they won't make a loyal and valued pet, just that if you are looking for a dog that will happily cuddle for hours you should look elsewhere. Here are the 10 least affectionate breeds of dog, according to the American Kennel Club. For all the latest dog news, chat, advice and information, join our Scotsdog Facebook group here Read more: 1 . Afghan Hound The Afghan Hound is one of the world's oldest breeds of dog - and also one of the most elegant. This is a dog that was bred to hunt though, and they are highly selective when it comes to who they offer affection to. Generally aloof, they will be completely disinterested in strangers and tend to create a bond with a single person who they will deign to tolerate. Photo: Canva/Getty Images Photo Sales 2 . Chow Chow The Chow Chow may look incredibly snuggly but they are known to be almost cat-like in their behaviour - fiercely independent and largely eschewing cuddling, petting or patting. As well as not being particularly affectionate to its owners and completely ignoring strangers, it is also the only dog that doesn't bark - instead making an odd yodelling sound. Alaskan Malamute Bred to pull sleds huge distances over frozen tundra, the Alaskan Malamute has a strong work ethic and independent spirit that's not conducive to snuggling up on the sofa for an evening watching television. Adorable Afghan Hound Puppy's Big Bath Time Feelings Melt Hearts with Animated Charm
It can be hard to explain to our dogs why it's a must to do certain things. Things like vet visits and baths already put their emotions into overdrive, but piling both into one day? That's a recipe for a full-on canine meltdown. And this Afghan Hound puppy, she's here to share her thoughts on the travesty. This fluffy rebel unleashes a spirited protest filled with peak puppy sass. She doesn't need to use words to express herself, as her dramatic flair says it all loud and clear. Catch this gem of a video from February 14 to see if you can decode this adorable outrage! This adorable Afghan Hound puppy has a lot on her mind, and she's not shy about sharing it! Roona (@roonaandmarlow) is the cutest little chatterbox on full-on rant mode after experiencing a day she'd rather erase: a vet visit and a bath. Nope, even worse, a shower plus a blow-dry. The nerve of some people! Her grumbly symphony practically screams, 'It was the worst day of my life!' Yet, her bouncy hops and zoomies around the room spill the tea: this darling girl is living the dream, even with soggy fur and check-ups. By morning, she'll undoubtedly shrug off the drama and find a fresh topic to be sassy about! The Afghan Hound is known for their slender, aristocratic frames and silky flowing coats. According to the American Kennel Club, these dogs blend beauty with a surprising athleticism developed from their ancient roots as sighthounds in Afghanistan's rugged terrain. They stand 25 to 27 inches on average and way between 50-60, with a life expectancy of 12-18 years. The AKC reports this breed needs plenty of room to run, which they can do at lightning speed. As equally skilled jumpers, they also require a fence at least six feet high to keep them safe. These delightful dogs also possess an independent streak and sharp intellect, often paired with a playful, clownish charm that sneaks out when they're not busy looking regal. I'd say Roona displays these traits well! While their long locks require lots of grooming, they're fiercely loyal and loving with their families, making any effort they require worthwhile. People couldn't get enough of this pup's playful tantrum. Viewer @magzipoosh responded, 'I've said this before, and I'll say it again: I need more talking Roona Tuna videos!' We all do! Viewer @_ann_fitzgerald remarked, "Omg, like a barking lamb so springy and bouncy, what a beautiful houndling.' She's so much fun to watch! Another shared, "I love her vocalizations!' She has a lot to say! Even when she's pouting over a bath, this Afghan Hound's charm is too irresistible to ignore. One flash of those soulful eyes or a sassy grumble has us totally hooked on her puppy magic! 🐶SIGN UP to get 'pawsitivity' delivered right to your inbox with inspiring & entertaining stories about our furry & feathered friends🐾🐾
