Yahoo01-05-2025

Iconic BBC children's programme Blue Peter is set to unveil a new look and "refreshed" format later this year.
Blue Peter is one of the world's longest-running children's TV shows, having run for more than 67 years.
The BBC said it has continued to evolve over the years, "adapting to meet the needs and interests of its audience while staying true to its core".
Now, Blue Peter is set to unveil and brand new look and format in September.
The show will be filmed in a different studio - Campfield Facilities at Versa Studios in Manchester in a new "digital-first magazine" style format.
The Blue Peter Garden will remain at Media City, as well as the garden at RHS Bridgewater - both of which will continue to be used for filming.
The BBC added: "Blue Peter will continue to invite children into the creative studio to experience how the show is made and to bring their energy and excitement as the action happens.
"Spontaneous moments and unscripted surprises will remain key parts of the show."
Blue Peter has continuously maintained a strong connection with its audience over the decades, the broadcaster continued, through the iconic Blue Peter badges, exciting challenges, memorable competitions, lovable pets, and much more.

The BBC said: "The upcoming format refresh and new studio will maintain all those core elements, cementing the show's legendary status, while providing audiences with a dynamic, interactive, and engaging viewing experience.
"Blue Peter has always been an interactive show, and will continue to encourage kids to submit their own ideas and artwork, participate in competitions, and enjoy adventures with their favourite presenters."
Senior Head of Children's Commissioning at BBC Children's and Education, Sarah Muller, said: 'Blue Peter is such an iconic part of children's television, and we're evolving the show with innovative ways that will be really exciting for our young audience.
"The move to the new studio will provide a variety of creative locations and visual options that a whole new generation of viewers will love.
"Whether through interactive social media moments, global adventures, or on-demand content.
"We're proud to continue the legacy of a show that has inspired generations, and we can't wait to show audiences our new look in September.'

Blue Peter editor, Ellen Evans, added: "As the longest-running children's TV show in the world, Blue Peter holds a unique place in the hearts of multiple generations.
"The show's enduring appeal lies in its ability to encourage and inspire children to be curious, adventurous, and imaginative.
"Kids, celebrities, parents, and grandparents know what the Blue Peter badge means; that you have tried your best, done something to be proud of, made something, most importantly, you have earned it.'
Blue Peter airs Fridays at 5pm on CBBC and BBC iPlayer and has a constant digital presence on YouTube and social media (and iPlayer).

EastEnders star suspended over 'unacceptable' language

EastEnders star Jamie Borthwick has been suspended by the BBC after using a slur against people with disabilities on the set of Strictly Come Dancing. The offensive remark was made last November during filming for the BBC dance show's flagship Blackpool week, the Sun on Sunday reported. The BBC said his language was 'entirely unacceptable and in no way reflects the values or standards we hold and expect'. The newspaper said that Borthwick, who plays Jay Brown - a key long-running character on the soap - apologised for "any offence and upset". BBC News has approached his representatives for a comment. Disability charity Scope said Borthwick should reflect on what he said and educate himself. "We hope he takes the opportunity to get to know the reality of disabled people's lives,' said the organisation's media manager Warren Kirwan. Borthwick has been on EastEnders since 2006. The 30-year-old took part in the latest series of Strictly, where he was paired with professional dancer Michelle Tsiakkas.

UK Comedian Dawn French Apologizes For 'Clumsy Tone In One-Sided Gaza Video'

UK comedian Dawn French has posted a public apology after posting a video about the war in Gaza, and removed the item from her social media. The 40-second video posted earlier this week showed the star of BBC sitcom The Vicar of Dibley share her views on the conflict, saying 'Complicated, no, but nuanced. But [the] bottom line is no.' Starring Dawn French & Craig Roberts Switching into a high-pitched voice, she continued: 'Yeah, but you know they did a bad thing to us, yeah but no. But we want that land… and we have history… No. Those people aren't really even people, are they really? No.' Following a backlash with people complaining she was mocking the October 7 attack that ignited the war, French removed the video Saturday and said she never meant to 'mock, or dismiss, or diminish the horror' of the event. She wrote on social media:'I hope you will understand my intention was not to offend, but I clearly have. For which I am sorry and I have removed the video.' French said that she had posted a video in the style that she has been using for social media 'in an effort to convey an important point', although she added that she had 'clumsily used a mocking tone.' 'My intention was NEVER to mock, or dismiss, or diminish the horror of what happened on 7 October 2023 and what continues to unfold from that brutal unthinkable, unforgiveable, savage attack.' She said her intention had been 'to mock and point the finger of shame at the behaviour of the cruel leaders on all sides of this atrocious war.' 'THEY were my target, but clearly I failed to do that, and that's on me. I apologise unreservedly, and I'm particularly sorry that my disgust at Hamas didn't figure. It appeared one-sided and that is wrong.' Almost 1,200 people were killed on October 7 2023 when Hamas led a cross-border attack and took 251 hostages. BBC News reports that 54 remain in captivity. Israel launched a retaliatory campaign in Gaza, with a reported death toll of 54,607. Willow, 3, meets William and shares her crisps

When Prince William paused to greet three-year-old Willow during a visit to the Royal Cornwall Show, her family never expected a gift to exchange hands. They were taken aback when Willow reached up with a single Quaver - and even more surprised when the prince popped the savoury snack into his jacket pocket. "I don't think I've ever been offered a Quaver before," the prince said. "I'm going to save this and put it in my pocket for later." Grandmother Sharon Hart, who captured the moment on video, told the BBC: "It was a lovely genuine moment and a memory that we will never forget." Ms Hart, from Luxulyan, from Cornwall, said: "I guess he gets some very expensive presents and this was a first. "Willow always wants to be a princess, so the fact she met a real live prince - she thought that was incredible." The Prince of Wales visited the Royal Cornwall Show on Friday, where he toured the exhibits, spoke to visitors and sampled local produce, including Cornish Rattler cider. Prince William, the Duke of Cornwall, is a patron of the Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association, the charity which organises the three-day show. Willow was attending with her family, including brothers Jude, six, and Noah, eight. Ms Hart, 65, said: "He was leaving the Duchy tent when he passed us. "We were just watching and hoping we'd get a glimpse when there was a commotion in front of us and before we knew it Willow was handing out a Quaver. "She's usually quite tight with her Quavers so it obviously meant a lot to her. "He was a real gent, he thanked her and told her he'd never been given a Quaver as a gift." Jodie Hart, Willow's mother, said: "She's had another packet of crisps today and said she wanted to share them with Prince William. "We told her he was probably a little busy." Ms Hart added: "What a lovely man he is and what a gentleman - our grandchildren were thrilled to see him, never mind talk to him. "He just made it so important, it was lovely. His humanity shone through." More news stories for Cornwall Listen to the latest news for Cornwall Follow BBC Cornwall on X, Facebook and Instagram.
