Two-month ban on Chan'ad fishing, selling begins
A seasonal two-month ban on fishing Chan'ad (Kingfish) has been announced by the Supreme Council for Environment.
The ban, which runs from August 15 to October 15, prohibits catching kingfish using nets in Bahrain's territorial waters, as well as displaying or selling them in markets and public places during this period.
The measure aims to increase the kingdom's kingfish stocks, regulate fishing, and avoid depleting fisheries to maintain ecological balance, the Supreme Council for Environment said, stressing that all necessary measures will be taken to implement the ban.
The ban is in accordance with Decree-Law (20) of 2002 on the regulation, exploitation and protection of marine wealth, and follows the resolution adopted by the Agricultural Cooperation Committee of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) during its 23rd meeting.
