Bahrain imports over 30,000 livestock ahead of Eid Al-Adha
More than 30,000 animals have arrived in Bahrain ahead of Eid Al-Adha, along with thousands of tonnes of imported meat, as traders move to meet seasonal demand.
Asim Abdul Latif Abdullah, Undersecretary of Agriculture and Animal Wealth Affairs, said the country had received 30,630 sheep, 91 cattle and 34 camels.
A further 17,000 animals are expected to arrive in the coming days. Alongside the livestock, Bahrain has brought in 1,541 tonnes of chilled and frozen red meat and 5,299 tonnes of frozen poultry.
A total of 228 import licences have been issued for meat shipments, covering both red meat and poultry.
Full plan
Preparations for Eid include a full plan to keep licensed slaughterhouses running smoothly.
Veterinary surgeons will be stationed on site, working with abattoir doctors to examine livestock before and after slaughter.
Only inspected meat is cleared for market, with carcasses stamped to show they have passed the checks.
Al Hamala Slaughterhouse and the Bahrain Livestock Company facility in Sitra are among the authorised centres.
