Village Outreach Campaign begins in 12 blocks in Coimbatore district, 13 in Tiruppur district

The Village Outreach Campaign (Uzhavarai Thedi Velanmai), organised by the Agriculture and allied departments, which was inaugurated statewide by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin through video-conferencing from the Secretariat on Thursday, commenced in 12 blocks in Coimbatore district and 13 blocks in Tiruppur district. The significance of the scheme will be made known to the target beneficiaries through pamphlets, radio, newspapers, social media, visual media, officials said. Prior to conduct of the special camps, farmers will be asked to submit their grievances. The farmers will be facilitated to avail themselves of the utility of the various schemes. The camps will also feature stalls exhibiting inputs and agricultural equipment, and testing of soil, water and seeds will also be undertaken. Farmers will be sensitised to best practices in agriculture, water management techniques, value additions and marketing of produce, besides nature farming. Field inspections will be undertaken and there will also be agricultural productivity competition, according to officials. The farmers will be able to secure certifications pertaining to Agriculture and allied departments at the camps, Krishnaveni, Joint Director of Agriculture, Coimbatore district, who took part in the camp at Anamalai village in Anamalai Block said. Officials of all departments under Agriculture – Farmers Welfare Department and allied departments like Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, Cooperation, along with scientists from Krishi Vigyan Kendras reached out to the farmers to provide technical advisories and explain the schemes related to Agriculture and allied departments. The initiative aimed at taking farming to the next level will be conducted on the second and fourth Fridays of every month so that farmers in all villages will gain awareness on agricultural technologies and government schemes within a year, officials said. Services related to agriculture will be provided in the camps. Special problems arising in crop cultivation, animal husbandry and fish farming will be solved immediately by scientists of the Universities of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries. In Tiruppur, District Collector T. Krishnan took part in the outreach program at Keeranur village in Kangayam block. Joint Director of Agriculture Sundaravadivelu, and senior officials of Cooperatives, Horticulture and Animal Husbandry departments also took part. A total of 353 camps have been planned village-wise by the Agriculture and Horticulture departments across 12 panchayat unions.
