Authentic 14y.o. Thai stall set to shutter permanently, owners will leave SG for good

Monkey Thai Seafood, a humble PR-owned hawker stall in Mei Ling Market & Food Centre that has sold authentic Thai cuisine for over 14 years, will be closing for good. On 21 Apr, it was announced on the stall's Facebook page that it would be shutting down permanently on 19 May, with 18 May being its last day. 'We are sincerely thankful for your unwavering support and love… Without you, our dream [would have never been] able to come true,' the notice read. Monkey Thai Seafood was first established on 9 Sep 2010, and its lifetime will be 14 years, 8 months and 9 days when it closes on 19 May. The stall also addressed the unavailability of certain menu items in a separate post, stating that there will no longer be any restocks in the days leading up to the closure. The owners, who go by Ah Pui and Ah Rong, are Singapore Permanent Residents who migrated from Thailand. Pui, who usually runs their social media accounts, confirmed that she and her husband would be revoking their PR status and returning to Thailand after the closure. In response, Monkey Thai Seafood's regulars flooded the comment section with well-wishes and sweet words. While every sentence was tinged with sadness, the commenters also urged them to take good care of themselves and wished them luck on their journey ahead. Some reminisced about their experiences eating at the stall with their families over the years, while others praised the top-notch cooking and the couple's kindness and cheerfulness. In particular, a customer lamented, 'My basil chicken with egg…', to which Pui responded humorously that there were still a few days left for them to savour the dish one last time. If you can, head down to Monkey Thai Seafood before 18 May to bid it farewell and try the authentic Thai fare. Judging by how well-loved and genuine they are, the vendors truly deserve every bit of support they can get before it shuts down permanently.
