BHUBANESWAR: The state government's Subhadra Yojana is an embodiment of Rani Ahilyabai Holkar's ideals of social justice and women's empowerment, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said on Saturday. Addressing a state-level function to mark the 300th birth anniversary of Punyashloka Maharani Ahilyabai Holkar here, the chief minister said she was not just a great ruler but a social reformer and philanthropist. Her life and work are a source of inspiration for generations and she is a unique example of women's empowerment, good governance and social service which are reflected in the policies of the state government, he added. 'Ahilyabai has immortalised herself in Indian history with her justice, courage and unparalleled dedication to her people. Her life is a source of inspiration for us, guiding us on the path of good governance and social welfare. We too need to promote justice, education and equality in our society,' Majhi stressed. Describing Subhadra Yojana as a revolutionary scheme for the empowerment of women, the chief minister said the aim of the scheme is to help them become financially self-reliant and socially progressive. 'If we look at the current governance system, we see that many state governments have taken inspiration from Ahilyabai's ideals. Our government is giving importance to rural development, women's empowerment, education and health which is in line with Ahilyabai's vision,' he said. Speaker Surama Padhy, deputy CM Pravati Parida and several ministers attended the function.

1 2 Kurukshetra: Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini on Saturday called on citizens to emulate the values of Ahilyabai Holkar by championing girls' education, gender equality, and social service — aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a developed India by 2047. Addressing a state-level event in Pipli, Kurukshetra, marking the 300th birth anniversary of the iconic Maratha queen, Saini described Ahilyabai as a symbol of woman power who shattered social barriers in an era that denied women education and autonomy. To honour her legacy, the CM announced the construction of a museum dedicated to Ahilyabai on a 2-acre site to educate youth about her life and contributions. He also pledged the creation of a ceremonial gateway in her name, to be located in a city or village with input from the Pal-Gaderia community. In support of community development, Saini committed ₹31 lakh from his discretionary fund for the Pal-Gaderia Dharamshala in Kurukshetra. State ministers and MPs, including Krishan Lal Panwar and Naveen Jindal, each pledged ₹11 lakh toward the initiative. He also praised the leadership of Indian women in present-day security operations, referencing the recent Operation Sindoor and acknowledging the contributions of defence officers Vyomika Singh and Sophia Qureshi. Reaffirming his government's commitment to inclusive development, Saini spotlighted welfare programs under the 'Haryana Ek, Haryanvi Ek' banner. These include free monthly food rations to 49 lakh below-poverty-line families, over 15 lakh free LPG connections under the Ujjwala Yojana, and subsidised ₹500 gas cylinders. Healthcare efforts through the Ayushman Bharat-Chirayu scheme have enabled over 20 lakh patients — including senior citizens — to receive up to ₹5 lakh in free treatment. The Dayalu Yojana provides similar financial aid to low-income families in cases of death or disability. To support backward communities, the state has established a dedicated commission, increased the reservation quota to 27% in education and government jobs, and raised the creamy layer income cap from ₹6 lakh to ₹8 lakh. For girls, free schooling up to Year 12, scholarships, and waived university fees are in place. Marking World No Tobacco Day, Saini concluded with a public call to reject addiction and embrace health, values, and service. 1 2 Jaipur: A proposal passed in the board meeting of Jaipur Municipal Corporation-Heritage (JMC-H) on May 26 to install a statue of Devi Ahilyabai Holkar came to fruition Saturday with the grand unveiling of an 8-foot tall statue at the newly developed Ahilyabai Holkar Garden in Haripura. The inauguration was carried out in the presence of Acharya Mahant Bharat Bhushan Das Maharaj from Sant Ravidas Janmasthali, Varanasi, along with Civil Lines MLA Gopal Sharma and JMC-H acting mayor Kusum Yadav. The atmosphere turned emotional as chants of "Ahilyabai Amar Rahein" and "Har Har Mahadev" echoed throughout the park, while devotees eagerly took selfies with the statue. Prior to the unveiling, a vibrant Kalash Yatra was taken out from Rojgareshwar Mahadev Temple, led by hundreds of women and prominent members of various communities, with Mahant Bharat Bhushan Das at the helm. The procession was greeted with floral showers and refreshments along the way. MLA Sharma said, "Residents of Haripura's Durga Vistar and Park View colonies were demanding a park for over 40 years. Lucknow: Emphasising the importance of historical female figures, BJP's state president Bhupendra Singh on Saturday said, "Queen Ahilyabai Holkar was a formidable administrator, warrior and a driving force behind economic and cultural revival. " Addressing a seminar that marked the 300th birth anniversary of Ahilyabai, Singh said, "She was a paragon of women's strength whose contributions to justice and entrepreneurship made her different." Power and urban development minister AK Sharma highlighted Ahilyabai's extensive work in temple restoration and her initiatives aimed at economic fortification and women's empowerment during her rule. He noted her unique ability to blend tradition with progress, which significantly benefited society. Rajya Sabha MP Dinesh Sharma reiterated Ahilyabai's pivotal role in cultural heritage preservation amid the adversities of Mughal and British rule. Meanwhile, BJP's Lucknow district president Anand Dwivedi said that the BJP organised a series of programmes from May 21-31 under a campaign to further promote the legacy of Ahilyabai. Lucknow: In a proud moment for Lucknow, two renowned Dastangoi storytellers from the city, Himanshu Bajpai and Pragya Sharma, got opportunity to narrate the life and glory of Ahilyabai Holkar, queen of Indore, at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi. In the two-day event (May 29-30) that marked 300th birth anniversary of Ahilyabai Holkar, Himanshu and Pragya narrated 'Dastan-e-Ahilya', organised by Union ministry of culture and Sahitya Akademi. Inaugurated by President Draupadi Murmu, the event was themed 'How much has literature changed'. The duo began with the incident of Raghoba's wife, Anandi Bai, sending her maid to discover secret of Ahilyabai's popularity. The maid tells her that Ahilyabai lives a an austere life, with neither jewellery, nor any ostentation, but is famous because of her great thinking and welfare of common people. She sentenced her son Male Rao to death because he had killed a calf by crushing it under his chariot. The storytellers recounted that Ahilyabai was not only devout but a warrior too. She defeated Chandrawat of Rampura thrice. The last section of the narration describes how when Ahilyabai died, a large number of people gathered in Maheshwar. Due to her contribution to the masses, Ahilyabai was termed a goddess while she was alive. Previously, in 2020, Himanshu had the opportunity to narrate the Kakori Conspiracy episode at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Among the listeners were Sahitya Akademi president Madhav Kaushik, secretary Srinivas Rao, poets Arun Kamal, Ashok Chakradhar, Lakshmi Shankar Bajpai and Rajshekhar Vyas.
