(File pic) KOTA BHARU : A teenager pleaded not guilty in the sessions court here today to a charge of raping a 15-year-old female student in the store room of a secondary school in Kuala Krai in April last year. The 18-year-old was charged under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code, but as the accused was a minor at the time of the alleged offence, sentencing provisions under Section 91 of the Child Act 2001 will apply. Deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Faiz Fitri Mohamad proposed bail at RM15,000, while defence counsel Wan Norfarhan Liyana Wan Baharunddin requested a lower amount, saying that the teen's parents worked as daily-wage labourers. She also informed the court that the accused was scheduled to begin matriculation studies next month. Judge Zulkifli Abllah allowed bail at RM5,000 with a condition that the accused does not tamper with prosecution witnesses. He also fixed June 26 for mention of the case.

(Reuters pic) PETALING JAYA : A restaurant assistant was charged in the Kota Bharu sessions court today with raping a Form 3 student on Jan 24. Berita Harian reported that Wan Izzuddin Wan Hasim, 21, pleaded not guilty when the charge was read before judge Ahmad Bazli Bahruddin. He was accused of raping a 14-year-old girl in a room in Padang Sri Paduka, Kota Bharu, Kelantan, at 3am on Jan 24. The charge was made under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code for rape, which provides for up to 20 years' imprisonment and a whipping. The prosecution was led by deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Faiz Fitri Mohamad, while Wan Izzuddin was represented by lawyer Ahmad Nurie Abd Rahman. Faiz asked for no bail to be offered, but Nurie requested for bail, saying his client earned only RM1,000 a month. The court set bail at RM8,000 with one surety and ordered the accused to refrain from disturbing the witnesses and report to a police station once a month. It also set June 30 for re-mention of the case.

KOTA BARU: A 27-year-old sales assistant pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here today to two charges of raping and committing physical sexual assault against his underage niece in March, 2025. The accused entered his plea before judge Zulkifli Abdullah after the charges were read out to him. For the first charge, he was accused of committing physical sexual assault against a 15-year-and-11-month-old girl inside a car in Kuala Krai at about 7.30pm on March 13. The offence falls under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, punishable under Section 14 of the same Act, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years' imprisonment and whipping upon conviction. The second charge pertains to the rape of the same girl, with whom he is prohibited from marrying under the law, religious norms, customs, or tradition. The alleged incident is said to have occurred inside a car at the Bukit Sireh parking area in Kuala Krai at about 7.30pm on March 15. The charge was framed under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment of not less than eight years and up to 30 years, along with a minimum of 10 strokes of the cane upon conviction. The prosecution was led by deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Faiz Fitri Mohamad, while the accused was unrepresented. Faiz urged the court not to grant bail, citing the seriousness of the offences. The court fixed May 27 for mention of the case.
