Sabah PKR urges calm amid GRS criticism, fair seat negotiations
Published on: Tuesday, August 19, 2025 Published on: Tue, Aug 19, 2025 Text Size: Ahmad also reminded GRS of the federal government's and Sabah PH's crucial role in maintaining political stability during the 'Langkah Kinabalu' episode, which threatened to topple the Sabah government. Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) has called for a calm and mature response following recent criticism from Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) leaders over media coverage of political statements. Sabah PKR Information Chief Ahmad Farid Sainuri said the party welcomes constructive criticism from GRS leadership, particularly regarding a 'Malaysiakini' report that quoted a statement by Sabah PKR State Leadership Council (MPN) Chairman Datuk Mustapha Sakmud. Advertisement 'The statement by Datuk Mustapha was actually a response to remarks made by Sabah Umno Information Chief Datuk Suhaimi on Aug 14. It was not meant to portray GRS as a liability in any political cooperation,' said Ahmad in a statement on Monday. He reaffirmed Sabah PKR's commitment to upholding political stability both at the federal and state levels in the interest of the people. 'The cooperation between Pakatan Harapan (PH) and GRS must be protected—not seen as a challenge to the Prime Minister,' he said. Ahmad also reminded GRS of the federal government's and Sabah PH's crucial role in maintaining political stability during the 'Langkah Kinabalu' episode, which threatened to topple the Sabah government. 'Sabah PKR respects the leadership of the Chief Minister and values the strong GRS-PH cooperation. But we urge GRS not to misinterpret our statements due to media reports that sometimes fail to reflect our true intentions,' he said. Ahmad further stressed the need to finalise seat negotiations for the upcoming state election with fairness and a strategic approach. He emphasised that discussions must involve the leadership of Sabah PH, not just component party leaders. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? GRS should have been grateful for PH support, says Sabah PKR
Published on: Monday, August 18, 2025 Published on: Mon, Aug 18, 2025 Text Size: KOTA KINABALU: Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) should have been grateful for the support given by Pakatan Harapan (PH) and the Prime Minister in stabilising the State Government during the Kinabalu Move episode, said Sabah PKR information chief Ahmad Farid Sainuri ( pic ). He said the leadership of GRS ought to recognise that Sabah PH and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had played a central role in ensuring the State Government remained intact when it was under pressure. Farid, in a statement on Monday, explained that the response by Sabah PKR chairman Datuk Mustapha Sakmud was directed at a statement made earlier by Sabah Umno information chief Datuk Suhaimi Nasir, and not an attempt to label GRS as a liability. According to him, Mustapha's concerns had been misrepresented, as the main point was to highlight PKR's commitment to ensuring political stability at both national and state levels for the well-being of the people. He said the partnership between PH and GRS should continue to be strengthened, and that it was never the party's intention to challenge the leadership of the Prime Minister or the Chief Minister. Farid also stressed that Sabah PKR respected the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and valued the working relationship between the two coalitions despite occasional misunderstandings in media reporting. He added that PKR hoped seat negotiations for the coming state election would be concluded swiftly, fairly and strategically, with discussions carried out through the Sabah PH leadership rather than only with individual component parties. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
