Exclusive Summoning Iranian ambassador possible if Tehran keeps interfering in Lebanon: Minister
Lebanon's Minister of Agriculture, Nizar Hani, told Al Arabiya on Monday that the Iranian ambassador could be summoned if Tehran continues interfering in the country's matters.
This came after the Secretary of Iran's Guardian Council, Ahmad Jannati, described the disarmament of Hezbollah as a 'delusional dream.'
Speaking at the start of a council meeting on Monday, Jannati said that the proposals being discussed regarding 'the disarmament of Lebanon's Hezbollah are unrealistic and constitute delusional dreams,' according to the ISNA news agency.
His remarks followed those of Ali Akbar Velayati, senior adviser to Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, two days earlier, which drew condemnation from Lebanon's Ministry of Foreign Affairs after he declared his country's opposition to the disarmament of the group. Hezbollah has suffered significant human and material losses during recent clashes with Israel, which peaked last September and October.
Jannati's position also came after Hezbollah supporters staged demonstrations for the fourth consecutive day on Sunday evening in Beirut's southern suburbs, denouncing the government's decision and expressing support for the group's stance.
Last week, the Lebanese government approved a clause to restrict weapons to the state and tasked the army with drafting a plan to collect Hezbollah's weapons. The plan is to be presented later this month and implemented by the end of 2025.
Hezbollah rejected this decision, describing it as a 'grave sin' and vowed to disregard it entirely.
