Arab Parliaments Endorse Bahrain Declaration Issued at 33rd Arab Summit
Algiers: Arab parliaments expressed their full support for the 'Bahrain Declaration' issued at the 33rd Arab Summit hosted by the Kingdom of Bahrain. This endorsement was officially reflected in the final statement of the 38th Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union Conference, held in Algeria. According to Bahrain News Agency, the parliaments commended Bahrain's efforts in supporting initiatives aimed at ending the war in Gaza, affirming its solidarity with the Palestinian people, safeguarding their legitimate rights and interests, delivering humanitarian aid, and advancing efforts toward a just and lasting peace in the region. Ahmed Abdulwahid Qarata, Second Deputy Speaker of the Council of Representatives and Head of Bahrain's parliamentary delegation, said at the conclusion of the conference and its associated meetings that the unified Arab recognition of Bahrain's position is a testament to the Kingdom's ongoing commitment, guided by the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, to supporting Arab causes and promoting peace, tolerance, and stability throughout the region. He noted that Bahrain's parliamentary delegation contributed constructively during the conference sessions and committee meetings, presenting in-depth proposals to enhance the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union's financial stability and strengthen its regional and international influence. The delegation also submitted 11 recommendations regarding proposed amendments to the Union's Charter. Qarata affirmed that Bahrain's legislative authority remains committed to working alongside Arab parliaments to develop a forward-looking framework that strengthens joint parliamentary action. The conference approved most of its agenda items, including the President's and Secretary-General's reports, the 2024 final accounts, and the proposed work programme and budget for 2025. The closing statement and associated resolutions were also adopted, reflecting a shared aspiration to promote stability and shape a better future for the Arab world. The Palestinian cause was reaffirmed as a central priority.
