Saudi Arabia set to meet localization goals in military industries pre-2030: GAMI Governor
Ahmed Al-Ohali, Governor of the General Authority for Military Industries (GAMI), said that local and international companies operating in the Kingdom are key pillars in the localization efforts, adding that the authority plays the role of organizer, supporter and catalyst for the sector, while the hard work remains on the shoulders of these companies.
In a meeting with media outlets on the sidelines of the launch of the new entity "BAE Systems Arabia for Industry", resulting from the merger between BAE Systems Saudi Development & Training Co. and the Saudi Maintenance & Supply Chain Management Co., Al Ohali stated that this marks a qualitative and strategic step that bolsters military industries in the Kingdom, noting that this step will help maximize the capabilities of the sector and achieve its goals, with the authority providing full support for such initiatives.
He also pointed out that the localization rate in military industries reached 19.35% by the end of 2023, noting that the final percentage for 2024 will be announced soon, expressing his optimism to reach the targets before 2030.
The jump in the localization rate from 4% to nearly 20% is due to the clarity of the strategic vision, the support of the leadership, and the integration of efforts between the concerned parties, including military and security authorities and local and international companies, said the Governor, adding that the next goal is to exceed 50% by 2030.
As regards the efforts to develop the military system, he said that the Kingdom has witnessed progress in localizing the maintenance of air, land and sea systems, in addition to manufacturing spare parts and quality systems in the Kingdom, while developing national competencies working in the sector.
