'Nation in safe hands': Ahmed Patel's son Faisal Patel hails PM for Operation Sindoor; calls Narendra Modi, Amit Shah 'great leaders'

Late Congress stalwart Ahmed Patel's son Faisal Patel. (ANI) NEW DELHI : In remarks likely to raise eyebrows in the Congress, Faisal Patel -- son of the late party stalwart Ahmed Patel — has praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership during Operation Sindoor , the cross-border strike on terror camps in Pakistan after the Pahalgam attack that killed 26 civilians. 'It can't be better than who's running the show… The armed forces have done a great job, and PM Narendra Modi showed great leadership and brought us out of a huge crisis. I am proud of our armed forces. I have a lot of respect for Jaishankarji. How Modiji picks up bureaucrats, makes them leaders and puts them in ministry roles is a very good thing,' Patel told news agency ANI. In an interview to CNNNews18, he called Modi and home minister Amit Shah 'great leaders' and declared the country was 'in safe hands' — a remark loaded with political irony given Ahmed Patel's long rivalry with Modi during UPA years, when he was Sonia Gandhi's most trusted strategist. PM Modi brought us out of huge crisis: Late Ahmed Patel's son Faisal praises prime minister; says ‘I just exist in Cong'

Faisal Patel, son of late Congress stalwart Ahmed Patel, has showered rare praise on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership during Operation Sindoor, the military response to terror bases in Pakistan following the deadly Pahalgam attack that claimed 26 civilian lives. The remarks come at a politically sensitive time, with the Congress party openly criticising the BJP-led Centre over its handling of the operation. Yet Faisal Patel, while reaffirming his association with the Congress, struck a markedly different tone, somewhat echoing Congress MP from Kerala's Thiruvananthapuram, Shashi Tharoor. Speaking to ANI, Congress stalwart Ahmed Patel's son Faisal was emphatic in his approval of the Modi government's crisis management. 'It can't be better than who's running the show (the central government) ... The armed forces have done a great job, and PM Narendra Modi showed great leadership and brought us out of a huge crisis,' he said. Faisal Patel further applauded the prime minister's approach to choosing capable bureaucrats and elevating them to key ministerial roles. 'I am proud of our armed forces. I have a lot of respect for Jaishankar ji. How Modi ji picks up bureaucrats and makes them leaders and puts them in ministry roles, is a very good thing,' he added. While clarifying that he remains a Congress member, Faisal Patel did not shy away from voicing his concerns about the party's internal functioning. 'Rahul Gandhi is a hardworking leader. There are some very bright and intelligent leaders in the Congress, like Shashi Tharoor, DK Shivakumar, Revanth Reddy, Deependra Hooda, and Sachin Pilot. They are very capable leaders. There are problems internally, and I believe the right advice is not given to seniors who are running the party... Their advisors are not doing a good job. They come and go. The senior leaders' advice is not heeded,' he remarked. Patel said he has taken a 'sabbatical from public life' but has not left the party. 'I am not upset with the Congress at all. The whole party is my family, and I have good relations with the senior leaders of the party... I am still in the Congress party... I just exist in Congress... The people of Gujarat and the local leaders have wonderful things to say about me,' he said. The late Congress leader's son also expressed strong confidence in India's defence apparatus and the current leadership's commitment to national security.

"Country In Safe Hands": Ahmed Patel's Son Praises Narendra Modi Government

New Delhi: Congress stalwart late Ahmed Patel's son Faisal has praised the Narendra Modi government and said the "country is in safe hands", but clarified that he is not upset with the Congress and has taken a break from public life. This comes months after the 44-year-old announced that he had decided to "stop working" for the Congress and that he was "denied" the chance to follow in his father's footsteps. The late Ahmed Patel was a three-time Lok Sabha MP from Gujarat's Bharuch and a Rajya Sabha member for nearly three decades. Considered the top strategist in the Grand Old Party, he was former UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi's political advisor and Congress's key crisis manager. Mr Patel died of Covid in 2020. Ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha election, the Congress did not field a candidate in Bharuch following a poll understanding with the Aam Aadmi Party. This disappointed Mr Patel's son, Faisal and daughter, Mumtaz. Eventually, AAP lost the election to the BJP, which has been winning Bharuch since 1989. Earlier this year, Faisal Patel posted on X that he had decided to stop working for Congress. "My late father, Ahmed Patel, gave his entire life working for the country, party & the Gandhi family. I tried following his footsteps but was denied every step of the way. I will continue to work for mankind in any way possible. The Congress party will remain my family as it has always been," he wrote. Now, he has said he is "not upset with the Congress at all". "The whole party is my family, and I have good relations with the senior leaders of the party. I am still in the Congress party. I have not left Congress, I have just taken a sabbatical from public life. The people of Gujarat and the local leaders have wonderful things to say about me," he said. He then praised the Narendra Modi government. Referring to the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor, he said, "It can't be better than who's running the show. The armed forces have done a great job, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi showed great leadership and brought us out of a huge crisis. It's a big deal. I am proud of our armed forces. I have a lot of respect for (External Affairs Minister S) Jaishankar. How Modiji picks up bureaucrats, makes them leaders, and puts them in ministerial roles is a very good thing." Faisal Patel praised the Leader of the Opposition, Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi as a "hardworking leader". "There are some very bright and intelligent leaders in the Congress, like Shashi Tharoor, DK Shivakumar, Revanth Reddy, Deependra Hooda, and Sachin Pilot. They are very capable leaders. There are problems internally, and I believe the seniors running the party are not given the right piece of advice. Their advisors are not doing a good job," he said, in a veiled attack at a section of top Congress leaders.

Gujarat HC orders Rs 25L compensation for widow of covid warrior

AHMEDABAD: Nearly five years after a death due to Covid-19, a corona warrior's family will receive compensation of Rs 25 lakh as announced by the state govt in April 2020. The Gujarat High Court has directed the govt to make the payment within six weeks. According to the case details, Ahmed Patel was working as a weigh-man in a Pandit Deendayal Grahak Bhandar – a fair price shop in Aachhod village in Bharuch district. Patel was on emergency duty following the govt's directive during the pandemic and was engaged in the distribution of essential commodities on behalf of the state govt. During this time, Patel contracted Covid-19, and he died on August 12, 2020. His widow, Tahera, applied for Rs 25 lakh financial assistance citing an April 24, 2020 govt resolution in which the state govt pledged financial assistance for those corona warriors who died while performing Covid duty. The weigh-man in govt-recognised fair price shops was included in the list of corona warriors. The widow's application was rejected by the govt on January 9, 2023. This led her to file a petition in the HC through advocates Abid Pathan and Sakib Patel. They argued that there was no dispute regarding death due to Covid-19. All the authorities concerned certified and verified it and recommended the payment of compensation. However, the govt rejected the compensation claim on the grounds that the district supply officer had not supplied the list of the employees engaged in emergency services within the prescribed time limit. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Τι είναι το ChatGPT για το οποίο μιλάνε όλοι; courses AI Undo The state govt opposed the widow's petition and tried to justify its rejection because the Bharuch district authority had not sent the list of employees on Covid duty in fair price shops before November 20, 2020, which was beyond the time prescribed in the GR. After the hearing, Justice Aniruddha Mayee said that the compensation claim was not rejected on merits, but due to the default on the part of the district supply officer in supplying the data within the prescribed time period. While quashing the govt's decision to reject the claim, the HC stated, 'The petitioner cannot be made to suffer for the default on the part of the respondent authorities. The said Government Resolution confers financial benefits as a benevolent resolution acknowledging the contribution of such employees who expired while performing essential services during the Covid-19 pandemic on behalf of the State Government .'
