Bhumana slams NDA govt for serving notices to Hindu Mutts
Tirupati: Former TTD Chairman and senior political leader Bhumana Karunakar Reddy came down heavily on the Andhra Pradesh coalition government, alleging that its recent actions against several prominent Hindu religious institutions amount to a direct insult to Sanatana Dharma. Addressing the media here on Sunday, he expressed outrage over the police issuing notices to over 32 Hindu Mutts, including peethams such as Sringeri, Mantralayam, Ahobilam, Vaikhanasa, and Chinna Jeeyar Mutt. He said such moves reflect a lack of reverence for the institutions that have for centuries upheld Hindu and Sanatana dharma. 'These mutts are not ordinary organisations, they are the very pillars safeguarding our dharmic traditions. Issuing notices to their pontiffs, especially by the police, is both disgraceful and unacceptable,' Bhumana said. He particularly criticised the government for asking mutts to install CCTV cameras and seeking information related to weapons on their premises. He argued that such inquiries undermine the sanctity of these spiritual centres and amount to imposing unnecessary restrictions on their functioning. 'Why are these rules not being enforced in private guesthouses? Why are religious institutions alone being targeted?' he questioned, demanding an explanation from both the Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and the Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan. The former TTD chairman alleged that this crackdown on Hindu institutions is being carried out under the instructions of Endowments Chairman BR Naidu. 'It is not just an administrative overreach but a calculated attack on Hindu beliefs and practices,' he said. He further warned that such actions, if continued, could deeply hurt the religious sentiments of millions of devotees. 'Religious heads of peethams like Sringeri must be respected, not harassed. The state should be facilitating dharma, not policing it,' he added.

Cops' security notices to 32 Tirumala mutts
Tirupati: The police department has issued security upgrade notices to 32 Hindu mutts in Tirumala, prompting strong objections from the YSRCP, which called it an insult to the revered Hindu pontiffs. As per the provisions of the Public Safety (Measures) Enforcement Act, 2013, these mutts are classified as "establishments" and must enhance security protocols. This includes installing CCTV cameras, deploying full-time security personnel, and implementing access control measures such as pilgrim frisking with hand-held and door-frame metal detectors. While historic mutts like Ahobilam, Parakala, and Sringeri have operated in Tirumala for decades, this is the first time they've received such directives from law enforcement. The mutts are yet to respond officially to the notice. And while the mutts are yet to respond to the diktat served to them by the Tirumala police, former TTD chairman Bhumana Karunakar Reddy slammed the police dept and the AP govt for going overboard in the guise of security. Addressing a press conference in Tirupati on Sunday, Bhumana felt it was an insult to the highly revered Hindu pontiffs, who are not only the representatives of the mutts but are also the custodians and torch-bearers of the Hindu Sanathana Dharma. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You To Read in 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo "The devotees and the disciples of the mutt who stay here and strictly follow certain ancient customs and pious religious traditions are not supposed to be touched in the first place. They observe a practice called "Madi" and Touching them means disrespecting them and their traditions. That being the case, how can the police dept mandate security frisking at these sacred mutts", the former TTD chief questioned. Bhumana also questioned the double standards of the police dept. "There are nearly 8000 odd rooms at Tirumala and there are many guesthouses and cottages operated by the TTD. Why hasn't the police dept issued similar notices to the TTD to upgrade security systems at all its guesthouses and cottages at Tirumala. Why are the Hindu mutts alone being singled out by the police dept", Bhumana wondered and warned that the YSRCP will extend support to the Hindu pontiffs and stage protests if the police dept doesn't withdraw it's notices with immediate effect. Will complete all pending irrigation projects in Rayalaseema, says Naidu
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has said his government will complete the irrigation projects in Rayalaseema and that he has chalked out a blueprint for the development of the region. Mr. Naidu on Tuesday offered Jala Harathi to the Krishna river at the Srisailam project and lifted four gates of the project in the presence of Ministers Nimmala Ramanaidu, B.C. Janardhan Reddy, and N.M.D. Farooq, Nandyal MP Byreddy Shabari, and Collector Rajakumari Gania. Earlier, he offered prayers at the Sri Bhramaramba Mallikarjuna Swamy temple, Srisailam. Later, addressing the water users association at Sundipenta, Mr. Naidu said he was elated over the Srisailam project reaching its full capacity in July itself. 'I offered prayers at the Srisailam temple and prayed to the presiding deities of Lord Mallikarjuna and Goddess Bhramaramba for the prosperity of the State and also to develop Rayalaseema as `Ratanala Seema.' We are going ahead with a resolve to develop the region as a Ratanala Seema,' he said. Mr. Naidu said the NDA government during 2014-19 had prioritised irrigation sector and spent ₹68,000 crore on construction of projects. 'The previous government, however, spent just ₹2,000 crore on the sector. After coming back to power, we have prioritised irrigation sector again and spent ₹3,390 crore on Handri-Neeva alone. We will also provide water to Jeedipalli reservoir on July 15,' he said. Asserting that the Polavaram project will be completed by 2027, the Chief Minister said the Rayalaseema region is getting water because of the Polavaram right canal only. 'I have a blueprint for the development of Rayalaseema. We will complete the irrigation projects in the region and make it a horticulture hub. The region is conducive to cultivating millets and also fruits. We are encouraging drip irrigation in the region by giving 90% subsidy,' Mr Naidu said. Industrial parks On the industrial front, Mr. Naidu said industrial parks are being set up at Kopparti and Orvakal and several industries are coming to Rayalaseema. 'Solar and wind energy plants are also coming n the region. Rayalaseema has good tourism spots. Ancient and historic temples like Tirupati, Srisailam, Vontimetta, Kanipakam, Ahobilam and others are our biggest assets,' he said. Terming irrigation projects as modern temples, Mr. Naidu said projects like the Srisailam, Gollapalli, Bairavanitippa, and PABR keep the soil fertile and contribute to development. Linking of rivers Mr. Naidu stated that his government would prioritise completion of pending projects and will inter-link rivers. 'We will link Vamsadhara and Polavaram and also Polavaram and Banakacherla which will ensure that there is no drought even if the Krishna basin does not receive good rains. We will complete all the pending projects under Telugu Ganga, K-C Canal, SRSP, Nagari-Galeru and Handri-Neeva. The State has the potential to store 1,004 tmc water but the present projects in the State have capacity to store only 554 tmc,' he said.
