#SHOWBIZ: HK actor Ai Wai's wife dies, a week after plea for liver donor
HONG KONG: Actor Ai Wai is in mourning following the death of his wife, Lisa Chan, who passed away on May 18 at the age of 61. She had been battling liver disease and was awaiting a transplant. In a heartfelt Facebook post, 66-year-old artiste shared a photo of his hand holding Chan's, accompanied by a touching caption: "Although we'll no longer argue about which route to take while driving, Lisa, I know that you're very tired. Please rest well." Chan's death occurred just over a week after Ai Wai made a public appeal on Facebook for a living liver donor with O+ blood. The former TVB star had revealed that his wife was placed on the liver transplant waiting list two months prior, but a suitable donor hadn't been found. Chan had been contending with liver and kidney disease for several years and underwent surgery in 2015 to remove a tumour. Her condition worsened two months ago, leading to her admission to the intensive care unit (ICU). Hoping to raise her spirits, Ai Wai reached out to fellow actor Michael Miu for assistance in contacting Chan's idol, Chow Yun Fat, who subsequently visited her in hospital.

Hong Kong actor Ai Wai is grieving the death of his wife Lisa Chan who passed away on May 18 at the age of 61 from liver disease while awaiting a transplant. In a Facebook post, Ai Wai, 66, shared a photo of his hand holding Chan's, alongside a caption that read: 'Although we'll no longer argue about which route to take while driving, how many minutes it takes to steam a fish or whether the gravy for the spinach is too salty … Lisa, I know that you're very tired. Please rest well.' Chan's death comes just over a week after Ai Wai made a public plea on Facebook for a living liver donor with type O+ blood. At the time, the former TVB star revealed that his wife had been placed on the liver transplant waiting list two months earlier, but no suitable donor had been found. 'Now, all I can do is give my best and appeal to anyone who's willing to help by becoming a donor,' he wrote then. According to reports, Chan had been battling polycystic liver and kidney disease for years and underwent a surgery in 2015 to remove a 6kg uterine tumour. Her condition worsened two months ago when she developed jaundice and swelling. She was later moved to the intensive care unit (ICU) after contracting a bacterial infection and suffering a buildup of toxins in her body. Hoping to lift her spirits, Ai Wai reached out to fellow actor Michael Miu for help in contacting Chan's idol Chow Yun Fat, who later visited her in the hospital. She sadly succumbed to her illness at around 1pm on May 18. Ai Wai and Chan married in 2002. They separated in 2020 due to her mahjong addiction but reconciled two years later.

HONG KONG: Actor Ai Wai is appealing for a "life-changing miracle" for his wife, Lisa Chan, who is critically ill with severe liver disease. In a recent Facebook post, the 66-year-old Hong Kong actor, who has faced financial difficulties in recent months, revealed that Lisa urgently needs a liver donor with O+ blood. "She was placed on the liver transplant waiting list two months ago, but sadly, a suitable donor still hasn't been found. Her family members are also unable to donate," Ai Wai wrote. "Now, all I can do is give my best and appeal to anyone willing to help by becoming a donor." Speaking to Hong Kong news outlet HK01, Ai Wai explained that Lisa's condition began deteriorating two months prior, with the onset of jaundice and swelling. The Time Before Time (1997) star shared that Lisa, his wife of 22 years, now requires daily blood purification treatments and is currently intubated in the intensive care unit (ICU). According to Ai Wai, Lisa's impaired liver function has led to a buildup of toxins, affecting her brain and causing occasional confusion. "There are moments when she doesn't realise she's intubated and insists on being discharged to go out for breakfast," he said. Ai Wai revealed that while Lisa was initially optimistic about her recovery, her fighting spirit has waned recently. Hoping to uplift her, Ai Wai reached out to his friend and fellow actor, Michael Miu, who contacted superstar Chow Yun Fat. Chow, 69, personally visited Lisa in the hospital and promised to go jogging and eat pineapple buns with her once she recovers.
