Hong Kong actor Ai Wai is praying for a life-changing miracle for his wife Lisa, who's currently battling a severe liver disease in hospital.
In a Facebook post, the 66-year-old, who has been struggling financially in recent months, revealed that Lisa's in critical condition and urgently needs a liver donor with type O+ blood.
'She was placed on the liver transplant waiting list two months ago, but sadly, a suitable donor still hasn't been found. Her family members also aren't fit to donate.
'Now, all I can do is give my best and appeal to anyone who's willing to help by becoming a donor,' he wrote.
Speaking to Hong Kong news outlet HK01, Ai Wai revealed that Lisa's condition began deteriorating two months ago, when she developed jaundice and swelling.
The Time Before Time (1997) star shared that his wife, whom he married in 2002, now requires daily blood purification treatments and is currently intubated in the intensive care unit (ICU).
According to Ai Wai, Lisa's impaired liver function has led to a buildup of toxins in her body, which has started to affect her brain and occasionally causes confusion.
'There are moments when she doesn't realise she's intubated and insists on being discharged so she can go out for breakfast,' he added.
Although Lisa was once optimistic about her recovery, Ai Wai admitted that her fighting spirit has waned recently.
Hoping to lift her spirits, he reached out to his friend and fellow actor Michael Miu, who then contacted superstar Chow Yun Fat.
Chow, 69, personally visited Lisa in the hospital and promised to go jogging and eat pineapple buns with her once she recovers.
