Animal Prints, High-Heels and Bright, Light Colors set to Dominate Summer Sales Demand
With the summer sales season well underway, consumers across the nation are making full advantage of the offers as discretionary spending decreases. But what items are most likely to make it out of the wish list and into the shopping cart for checkout? What are some of the key trends and essential wardrobe pieces that are in demand this summer? To help brands and retailers answer these questions, Lectra, a software and solutions provider for the fashion, automotive, and furniture industries, studied real-time data from its AI-powered solution Retviews and created a trend report listing some of the most popular items. 'In an industry that moves as quickly as fashion, it is crucial for fashion brands to explore potential scenarios and adapt their strategies accordingly to stay relevant, meet consumer demands, and scale their business operations,' said Antonella Capelli, President EMEA of Lectra, in a statement. Here, we share three of the main trends from Lectra's Retviews. SS26 collection for Marvelis Credits: Marvelis 1. Preppy & Edgy looks dominate summer capsule wardrobes Driven by returning 2010s trends and the surge in popularity of racket sports like padel, pickleball, and tennis, polo shirts are making a strong comeback this summer, showing an increase in demand of 28 percent in 2025 versus 2024*. According to data from Lectra, brands channeling classic preppy style, such as Aimé Leon Dore, Kith, and Ralph Lauren, are experiencing strong growth, especially in men's fashion. The preppy revival has also brought back rugby shirts and collegiate-style long-sleeved polos for women, which are more and more popular among spring outings and cooler summer evenings. Mob Wife aesthetic Credits: main image/Launchmetrics Spotlight Simultaneously, there has been more interest in bolder, more rebellious looks, with trends like 'mob wife' and 'indie sleaze' taking center stage this spring and summer. Animal prints exemplify this edgier direction, with sales jumping 33 percent in 2025 compared to the previous year. The Adidas x Wales Bonner leopard sneakers perfectly reflect this trend, commanding a 196 percent resale premium globally and ranking among the fastest-selling designs in recent years. Next to the classic leopard, zebra, and tiger prints, cow print pieces are also emerging as another popular pattern choice this summer. Sleek, elegant footwear makes a return for summer 2025 Credits: null 2. The return of sleek, minimalist, and elegant footwear, aka ballet flats, loafers & kitten heels The return of the preppy look has also made its way over to footwear. Styles like ballet flats, loafers, and kitten heels have quietly been making a return over the last two years, with current sales volumes tripling in comparison to 2023, according to data from Retviews. Further cementing their status as a wardrobe staple for this summer, classic styles like Mary Janes and bow-tie flats are the stars of collections from high-end labels such as Miu Miu, Simone Rocha, and Sandy Liang. In particular, Alaïa's designs have helped push mesh ballet flats into the mainstream, with Retviews data showing 13 percent growth in European sales and 16 percent growth in US sales year-over-year. Kitten heels are also making a strong comeback, fueled by nostalgia for '90s and 2000s fashion and an expanding resale market, with their presence in European collections surging 127 percent compared to last year. 3. Butter yellow, pink, & burgundy are the key summer colors Butter yellow is becoming a major color trend this summer, appearing everywhere from high-profile events to fashion runways and now mainstream retail. In line with the typical seasonal pattern, where brands and retailers embrace brighter hues as warmer weather approaches, Retviews data confirms the shift toward softer colors. Interest in the color candy pink is up 32 percent, and yellow is up 18 percent compared to 2024, while neutral shades are also gaining ground. Butter yellow summer dress Credits: MEXX Meanwhile, darker colors are losing favor this summer, with gray dropping 546 percent and black falling 267 percent. Interestingly, burgundy is one color defying seasonal norms by appearing in summer collections despite its traditional fall association, showing a remarkable 140 percent year-over-year increase. 'In this context, we at Lectra believe that technology is a powerful ally for brands that, through real-time AI-based insights from Retviews, can gain a strong competitive edge,' added Capelli. 'With these tools, they can identify market shifts and trends to make smarter business decisions and strengthen their positioning.' *Note, all percentages compare January 1 to May 1, 2025, against the same timeframe in 2024.

Former world number one Katie Boulter is currently competing on home turf at Wimbledon, near her southwest London home. She shares her guide to her favourite spots in the capital. Home is... Home is in southwest London with my fiancé (tennis player Alex de Minaur) We've lived here for two years. Katie Boulter and her fiance Alex de Minaur @katiecboulter Where do you stay in London? I normally stay at home, but when I don't, I go for Marriott hotels. I love the one near the London Eye. It's that contrast of luxury and history in one building, and the view outside is straight onto some of the city's most iconic landmarks. Where was your first flat in London? My first place was in Fulham, near Parsons Green. What was your first job in London? My first and only job has been as a professional tennis player. Where in London would you recommend for a first date? I'd recommend a quintessential English pub. One of my first dates was at The Lillie Langtry in Fulham — cosy, relaxed, and full of charm. Which shop would you go to, to buy a present for a partner or spouse? Right now, I'd probably go to Aimé Leon Dore or Liberty. Both feel thoughtful and stylish. Which 5 London shops or outlets do you rely on? Liberty, Whole Foods, Aimé Leon Dore, the Nike store, and my local coffee shop. What's the best meal you've had in London? That's tough — so many good ones. I used to love Le Boudin Blanc before it closed. These days, Roka and Cambio de Tercio are my go to spots. I love all cuisines, especially Asian fusion and sushi, and the croquetas at Cambio are a personal favourite. Who is the most iconic Londoner in history? Queen Elizabeth. She's the definition of iconic — timeless, poised, and completely tied to the identity of the city. A memorial to the late Queen will be built in London (Steve Parsons/PA) PA Wire Where do you go and what do you do to have fun? I love days where I can properly switch off my phone. Whether I'm catching up with friends and family or exploring the city, finding vintage stores and great street food — that's when I'm happiest. What's the best thing a London cabbie has ever said to you? "London's like a relationship — confusing, expensive, but you keep coming back." Still makes me smile. Where do you exercise in London? I train at Wimbledon or the Roehampton training centre. Both feel like home in their own way. Who do you call when you want to have fun in London? I call my brother — he always knows where to go and how to enjoy it. What's your biggest extravagance? I wouldn't say I have many, but food is definitely my indulgence. I try really hard to eat well and look after my body. I'll try anything if it helps me feel and perform better. What's your London secret? Petersham Nurseries. I love going there for breakfast and then taking a countryside style walk. It feels like a total escape, even though you're still in London. The interior of Petersham Nurseries Alamy Stock Photo What are you up to at the moment for work? I'm getting ready for Wimbledon physically and mentally, and I've also been working on some Wimbledon inspired charms with Amex. It's a fun creative project that ties into everything I love about this time of year. What does Wimbledon mean to you? Wimbledon means everything. It's where the dream started — as a kid, a player, and a fan. I also love the fashion side of it — the strawberries, the lawns, the style. That's actually what inspired the Amex Tennis Charm Collection. Does it mean a lot to be on home turf? Absolutely. There's pride, of course, but also comfort — the support, the familiarity, even the little routines. It gives me calm and drive at the same time. Katie Boulter holding a tennis shoe decorated in limited edition Amex charms, made for Wimbledon 2025 American Express Amex Who's your hero or professional hero? My hero will always be my family. My mum and grandpa raised me to handle things with grace, good or bad. Professionally, it was Jessica Ennis growing up. I admired how strong and calm she was. What do you collect? Trainers. Way too many. They're everywhere in my house, but each pair has its own little story. Podcast you are currently obsessed with? I'm not really into podcasts. I prefer music or just a bit of quiet when I'm on the go. What's your favourite work of art or building in London? Centre Court at Wimbledon. Not just because I play there. Even when it's empty, you can feel the history and the weight of everything that's happened on that grass. Katie Boulter playing on Centre Court against Aryna Sabalenka during the Wimbledon Championships 2021 POOL/AFP via Getty Images What was the last thing you googled? 'Best iced matcha in London.' Priorities. What's your favourite London beauty or grooming spot? I go to Embassy Beauty. It's one of my favourite ways to switch off and reset. What apps can you not live without in the city and why? Waze and Spotify. Waze keeps me moving, and Spotify's always playing — whether I'm training, walking, or just zoning out. What's your London dress code?

Runway Meets Raceway: Fashion's New Auto Obsession
Fashion has long been fascinated with cars—and that obsession isn't slowing down anytime soon. Lately, you may have noticed a wave of high-end collaborations hitting the mainstream. There's Alice + Olivia's new linkup with Ford Bronco, Aimé Leon Dore's multi-part partnership with Porsche, and Tommy Hilfiger's costuming for the upcoming F1 film starring Brad Pitt and Damson Idris—not to mention the latter's official apparel partnership with the Cadillac racing team. The relationship between fashion and the auto industry has always existed, but now it's finally having a full-throttle moment in the spotlight. Luxury brands have long held a love affair with motorsport style. The '70s saw a surge of designer-automaker partnerships, from Pierre Cardin's collaboration with Sbarro to Gucci's sleek customization of the Cadillac Seville—and even the ultra-luxe pairing of Cartier and Lincoln. But these connections weren't limited to the open road; the runways were tuned in, too. For his spring 1992 collection, 'Les Cowboys,' Thierry Mugler shook the industry with his now-iconic motorcycle bustier—complete with leather straps, side mirrors, and all. Decades later, in 2015, Jeremy Scott brought his signature whimsy to the trend, staging a bubble-filled, carwash-meets-catwalk spectacle for Moschino's women's ready-to-wear show in Milan and unveiling a motorcycle-inspired menswear collection at Pitti Uomo. More recently, the sudden widespread popularity of Formula 1—fueled in part by its reigning style icon and vocal arts advocate Lewis Hamilton—has pushed luxury brands even deeper into the fast lane. In 2023, Chanel went viral with a Grand Prix-inspired graphic T-shirt from its cruise collection, sending F1 fans and fashion influencers alike scrambling to track down the $4,450 piece. For a designer like Hilfiger, racing has always captured the essence of effortless American style—classic iconography with a sharp, technical edge. So partnering with Cadillac on its official team kit felt like a natural synergy. 'Our ambition is to create fanwear that's expressive, elevated, and deeply rooted in American style—one vision to shape the next era of race-inspired dressing,' he tells ELLE. Hilfiger also views motorsport as a fresh avenue for fashion to connect across industries, redefining style in new contexts and tapping into the rising 'fashiontainment' trend. He explains, 'Motorsport today is so much more than racing—it's a global cultural movement at the intersection of sport, fashion, entertainment, and innovation. That's where we thrive. As the lines between sport and style continue to blur, the opportunity in this space is limitless.' Other brands are making moves beyond Formula 1, too. Alice + Olivia partnered with Bronco for an exclusive capsule collection that flips the traditionally masculine auto aesthetic on its head—echoing Sydney Sweeney's 2022 journey of rebuilding her 1969 Bronco. 'As a designer, founder, and mother of three daughters, I'm always thinking about how we create space for women—not just in fashion, but in business and culture,' Stacey Bendet, founder and CEO of Alice + Olivia, tells ELLE. 'The Bronco has long stood for freedom and power, but those stories were almost always told through a masculine lens. I wanted to flip that [narrative], to show that women not only belong in that narrative—they can own it.' Whether you credit motorsport's current moment to the return of the yuppie aesthetic, the rise of previously niche sports like F1, or summer's enduring love for classic American sportswear, one thing is clear: racing-inspired style is here to stay.
