Key checks completed in inquiry into deadly Air India flight
Air India has completed precautionary inspections of fuel control switch locking mechanisms across its Boeing 787 and 737 fleet and has confirmed no issues were found. The checks were prompted by an ongoing investigation into the devastating crash in Ahmedabad in June, which resulted in 241 deaths on board and 19 on the ground. The inquiry is centred on the fuel control switches of the Boeing 787 involved, which are crucial for managing engine fuel flow. A preliminary report from India's Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) found the switches almost simultaneously flipped from 'run' to 'cutoff' shortly after takeoff, causing engine power loss. The AAIB says it is premature to draw any final conclusions about the crash.
